CHAPTER 20: A CONTROLLED REJECTION

Matilda's (Tilly) POV

"Matilda, where's your little follower today?" Lawrence asked. "Excuse me, your grace?" I asked. "TAVI! You're so simple-minded sometimes, I swear!" he scoffed. "Oh, she's helping your sister, Violet ready herself for the celebration tonight," I said, hanging my head. "I hope you do not think that you're going tonight, do you?" he asked. "Yes, of course! None of us have a choice. It is an order from the king," I proudly said. "No, you will not! Do I need to lock you up?" he snarled. "I am going, your grace," I simply said, walking away from him.

I was grateful no one heard his growl toward me. There were many others in the hall, and again I was grateful. Lawrence wouldn't dare hurt me when others were around. I didn't see what the big deal was. He didn't want me. It's why he is making me suffer before the rejection comes. I hate having to pretend not to have a mate when I sort of do. I was happy to see Tavi heading my way.
