6 - The Pack of Werewolves

SOFIA

There were three powerful wolves standing here in front of me with identical mocking looks on their faces. They could tear me limb to limb easily and think nothing of it. They were as massive as the Alpha but it was clear who ran the show here.

If I didn’t know better, it looked like high school bullying.

“You’ll get your clothes back if you answer my questions.”

Where the fuck were the guards?

“I was born in Russia.”

Minion One on the right-hand side decided to open his mouth, “I heard that in Russia, you drink Vodka instead of water. Is that true?” he asked in a very bad Russian accent.

They all sniggered.

“I’m Maverick, I’m the Alpha of the Crimson Moon Pack. I’ve come here to make an offer to you.”

Crimson Moon Pack. So fucking lame.

His jaw twitched. Was there any chance he could hear my thoughts? I’d have to be careful. I needed to build a wall to protect what I was thinking.

“What offer?”

I was going to deny whatever spewed next from his mouth.

“You need protection in this prison which I will gladly provide. I won’t sugarcoat it for you. All I need is some bed sport during the time that we’re spending together here. I want you, Sofia.”

“Go to hell.” I snapped.

“How dare you insult the Alpha! You insolent little—” He bared his teeth, reaching out to grab me.

The Alpha raised his hand for him to stop. “Relax, Harley. Leave us alone.”

“But Alpha—”

“Didn’t you just hear what I said?”

Minion One named Harley passed me a look filled with warning as he bowed for his royal king and backed up, walking out of the room, followed by Million two whose name I was yet to find out.

Once the wolves were out, the Alpha turned around to face me. “They are a little protective of me.”

I suppressed an eye-roll, “Clearly.”

“Think about it. You won’t just have one protector, but three. Harley and Miles will do everything in their power to make sure you’re safe.”

“You will share me with them?”

He laughed, amusement flickering his eyes, “Of course not. I meant the two will protect you if I’m not available or if anything happens to me. As an Alpha, I keep my word even after death.”

I waited for him to continue.

“You’ll be my responsibility. You wouldn’t have to struggle for food, bed, or anything for that matter. Whatever you want, I’ll give it to you.”

“And all I need to do is spread my legs for you!”

“Well, you didn’t have to be so crude but yes, that is what I desire.” He gave me dangerous smile, “I’ll have you whenever and wherever I want.”

I had a feeling he was used to having the She-wolves throwing themselves at him because that smile could destroy someone. I for one was made of stone. I wasn’t about to be seduced by him, and I didn’t think he was looking to seduce me anyway. He was an animal. He chased, hunted, and maimed before devouring.

“Your body will belong only to me.”

His promise and his words made my flesh tingle but I refused to believe this was desire.

“We’re mortal enemies. Werewolves hate Vampires and vise versa, so why me?”

“Prison rules are different and I know Vampires have an excellent sexual drive, it matches my own. Look, I’m not looking to make a Luna out of you, it’s just not going to happen. But I want you to belong to me.”

“What if I say no? You will take me by force?”

“I don’t think that would be necessary, female creatures can hardly resist my charms.”

“I hate wild dogs!”

His expressions took a one-eighty, from cheerful to bat-shit crazy. He pressed my cheeks together, smooshing them, and brought his face close to mine, “You don’t want to test me, princess. I’m famous for having a temper and you would be smart to stay on my good side.” His voice took a dark undertone like a switch was flipped, “I’m an animal. I don’t possess logic or reasonings. If I don’t get what I want, I work for it but I’ll never give up. I’ll make you mine, eventually. Sooner or later.”

I met his challenging gaze with my own, not flinching when he tried to stare me down.

“If I don’t have a choice then why ask?”

That smile was back again. He was really a fucking psycho.

“I can give you an illusion of a choice, right? That’s exactly what I was doing.” He went behind the counter where prison clothes were kept. He handed me a uniform. “This is for you.”

I snatched it out of his hands before he changed his mind.

“I won’t sign the Protection Program. Just so we’re clear.”

“Oh, you will. Mark my words, Sofia.”

I stomped my way to the prison cell.

I could fucking kill that werewolf!

I’d decided no matter what I wouldn’t sign the Protection Program. I wouldn’t do it!

If I only knew how worse life was going to get from here on, I’d probably sign the papers right now.

Warden Morris was right.

Life as a female inmate was hard in this prison. In the past forty-eight hours that I’d been living here, I’d grown a dozen pairs of eyes.

I was catcalled, harassed, touched, and threatened. I didn’t know how I was going to survive this until the end of my sentence. It appeared, Maverick wasn’t the only problem in this prison, there were a lot more.

Being locked up in the cell was much safer than going for a bath or for something as trivial as getting a meal. I couldn’t find any amount of peace. The rowdy male creatures always had eyes trailed on me like I was succulent meat that they couldn’t wait to sink their teeth into.

Bet a bunch of them were already writing recipes in their cells.

If that wasn’t any worse, there was no sign of Danny. I’d been looking for the Shewolf since the day we’d been separated because I’d planned on sticking together with her but she’d gone poof!—just like that.

Another part of me was worried she hadn’t survived.
