CHAPTER 16

ADRIANNA’S POV

“Where did you hear that from?” She asked, narrowing her eyes as she watched me closely.

“No one in particular,” I lied, my expression guarded.

I lied to protect that maid from yesterday. Now that I remember it, her name was Alicia. She didn’t tell me. I heard Alpha Nolan call her that during dinner yesterday.

After Alicia accidentally said that word yesterday, she refused to say anything further for fear of what Alpha Nolan might do to her if he found out she was talking to me, a slave.

If I told this older maid I heard it from Alicia, no doubt Alicia would get into trouble. Worse, she might be beheaded, which was probably her greatest fear. I don’t want anyone, much less a castle maid, suffering that fate because of me.

The older maid gave me a suspicious look, her expression making it clear she didn’t believe me entirely. She didn’t have a choice. It’s not like she could force the words out of me.

“I made it very clear to you yesterday that as a castle sla

CHAPTER 83ERIC’S POVI drew in a sharp breath and forced myself to move forward, step by step, until I was standing at the edge of the bed, mere inches apart from him. His eyes were closed peacefully, like those of someone who had drifted into an eternal slumber. My eyes roamed his face, desperately searching for traces of myself in him—the shape of his nose, the line of his jaw, the faint furrow of his brows. But it was hard to notice all that with him lying lifeless before me. It was hard to accept but the truth was undeniable, the reality crashing down on me like a ton of bricks—he will never open his eyes, he will never see what I looked like in person, I will never hear his voice and I will never know the kind of man he was.He looked smaller than I imagined, his body shrunken from old age, sickness, and death. Though dressed in extravagant robes of deep crimson and gold, the garb of a king, his skin did nothing to add to the sheen. It was ghostly pale with age lines, and his

CHAPTER 82ERIC’S POV“Your father… is dead,” the words broke out miserably from her lips, her head bowed and her body slumped in despair.I froze, drawing a sharp breath. A subtle gasp from Adrianna was heard, followed by a deep, unsettling wave of silence engulfing the castle.I didn’t expect to hear that. I know Coach Steele had told me he wasn’t well but I didn’t think he'd die so soon. More than anything, I wanted to see my father. I wanted to know the kind of man he was. I wanted to see if he ever thought of me. Know if he ever regretted casting me aside. I wanted to know if I would recognize some parts of myself in him—in his eyes, voice, and his ways. I wanted to know if he ever truly loved me, even if it was a little. Even if it were silently. So many things to ask and find out about but all of them will remain nothing but questions carved into my soul, forever unanswered because the cold hands of death had snatched him before I could arrive.“I’m sorry, Eric. But he couldn’

CHAPTER 81 ERIC’S POV “Eric…” Her voice wavered somewhat emotionally as she called my name, before reaching out and pulling me into an unexpected hug. But I didn’t hug her back. I just stood there, barely moving, reeling in the shock of seeing her and the painful sting of betrayal that seared my heart. It was clear she was my mother. I didn’t quite expect this to be the first thing she would do on seeing her long-lost son. The son she dumped like garbage and forgot about. She hugged me like I hadn’t been away for ages, like she’d known me forever. When she pulled away from the hug, she stepped back, settling in her initial position. She cleared her throat slightly and tried to regain her composure. The sight of me and that hug had probably stirred emotions. “You look well,” she said. Was she expecting me not to? “Thank goodness you made it safe and sound. Where is your luggage?” She asked, her eyes flicking to my sides, scanning around before they fell on Simon. “Did y

CHAPTER 80 ERIC’S POV It was a dark sedan, discreet, not so showy or flashy as to attract much attention. It also had tinted windows, so you couldn’t see who was inside. I liked it that way. It wouldn’t draw the wrong kind of eyes, and no one would notice Adrianna and me were inside on our way. We went outside. As we did, I took Adrianna’s hand in mine, holding tightly as though if I let go I might end up losing her forever, trying to fight back the anxiety churning in my gut. She looked up at me and smiled, the look on her crystal blue eyes soft and reassuring. The driver was a tall, middle-aged man dressed in a simple black suit. He had a kind face, his smile quick and easy as he tipped his cap in greeting. He introduced himself as Simon, the Blackwell family’s chauffeur, and helped pack the few things we brought with us into the car. “Thank you for everything,” I heard Adrianna say to Coach Steele, her voice filled with genuine gratitude. “Honestly… I can’t thank you enou

CHAPTER 79ERIC’S POVAll that time I worked for Nolan, I developed a deep-rooted hatred for him, Hermes, and everyone of them seeing the disgusting things they did. I hated that there was anything like Alpha Kings, I hated that they had an association, an alliance where they did all the bad things together. I hated that they got away with everything they did. I hated that no one dared to raise a brow over it. I hated everything they stood for, everything about them, and wished to be the one to take them down someday. But now, I’m about to take up that position, about to become the very thing I swore to destroy. Tell me, what does that make me? A hypocrite? A monster in the making?Heavens know that I didn’t want to do this. If Adrianna hadn’t convinced me, I would have never agreed to do it. I’m doing this for her sake, for the sake of those around me. If going to that kingdom and meeting the strangers who call themselves my parents will ease the terror in her heart… If stepping into

  • Saved By The Hidden Alpha King   Our last night

CHAPTER 78ADRIANNA’S POVI let my hand down from his shoulder, blowing out a breath as I rolled my eyes in exhaustion. I growled internally, trying to summon every ounce of patience I had left. I never knew him to be this stubborn and it was starting to stress me out. Today was one of the most hectic for me, for us, and no doubt tomorrow will be just as demanding. Coach Steele had mentioned that a ride would be made available first thing tomorrow morning to take us. With how distant he mentioned the kingdom was, it could take us hours if not days to arrive at our destination. The least we could do now is have a sound sleep to be better prepared for tomorrow.“You’ve known Coach Steele longer than I have. Do you really think he’s capable of keeping something that important from you if he knew about it?” I asked but Eric didn’t answer. The question made him uncomfortable as he looked away, his jaw twitching as silence settled between us, heavy with everything he didn’t want to admit.
