The events of the previous day gradually filtered back into my memory as I woke up. I recalled the wonderful recovery I had brought about for Adolph, the man I loved more than anything in the world, my heart fluttered with joy.

Adolph walked into the room as if reading my mind, his eyes glistening with a secret he could no longer keep to himself. My heart warmed at his sight, at his commanding presence, at his unshakable affection.

"There is something I need to tell you, Scarlett," he said, his voice tinged with a mixture of astonishment and joy.

With my interest awakened, I grinned at him and invited him to speak about whatever was on his mind. Saying, "What is it, Adolph?"

He broke the news that had made him so happy with a compassionate face. "Scarlett, you're carrying our child."
