In Denial

The door opens, turning Jackson is standing with two cups, handing me one he sits down.

“Have you thought about the fact she might have left, I mean fully left and just isn’t telling you?”

I would like to think she thought more of me than that, but maybe he is right.

“I guess I need to accept it is over and do it before it has been ten years. I am beginning to think you are right. She only acts like she wants me when I realise she is distant.”

He nods, smiling at me. “Well, you know there is always space here for you. No matter what happens, I best get back to the girls.” He taps my shoulder, getting up and walking in, me following behind. Max won’t try during the day. Not even he is that stupid.

“I need to go to work. Are you and Troy okay here? If you want to go home and see if she is back, I understand.” Jackson looks at me.

I shake my head at him. I know she isn’t back. “Happy to help.” I smile, sitting at the table with Troy, who also agrees.
