Chapter 2

I am a week out until I have to be at freshmen orientation. I am driving myself out to Texas and I am excited but also scared at the same time. The drive is about 13 hours from where I am now. It doesn't sound far but that might change when I am doing the drive. I have mostly everything that I am taking packed and ready to go I just need to load everything into my car. I am doing that the day before I start my journey. I still have to finalize things with my boss as she is sad to see me go, but she is also happy for me at the same time.

The week went by faster than I thought it was going to. I am loading my last boxes into my car. I am going to take a short nap before I start the long drive that I have ahead of me. I still find it hard to believe that I've made it this far in my life. I have been told that I can't do something by so many people that were supposed to tell me that I can. Now I get to prove all of those people wrong as I have shown them that I can and I will. I just need to keep this mindset that I have to keep me going forward with my next steps in life.

As I woke up from my nap it was already 3:30 am It was time to start my new adventure, off we go. I made sure that I was set with a full tank of gas and something to drink before I get onto the highway. I can't believe that it is time to make this journey already. It feels like time has sped up faster than my brain can comprehend.

Four hours into the drive I was already tired of sitting in one place. I had the radio playing on the max volume to help keep me company on this long trip. I sang to every song that played at the top of my lungs. I can't believe that I already feel the freedom setting into the cour of my soul. The land that I pass along has either cows or horses on them it's breathtaking to see a whole new side to this world. I watch the sun come up over the horizon and that adds to the beauty of the places that drive-through.

I had to make my first gas station stop five hours into the drive. I also decided that I would use the restroom as I was already stopped. You know the saying kill two birds with one stone that was my thought process with every stop that I will have to take. As soon as I have what I needed I was back on the road to continue my journey. I got to this spot that had rows and rows of windmills that I assume helped give electricity to the small town I just drove through.

I made it into Oklahoma finally as it felt like it took days to get this far into my road trip. I stopped again for gas and a restroom break. There was not much to see here but land and cows, sometimes horses. Maybe a few houses in between the land that I saw. About three hours into the drive I crossed over into Texas. I felt this rush of excitement that I was finally in my new home state. But it's also hitting me that this is real, that this is happening. I continued to drive for about another hour until I saw a gas station to feel up my tank. I also went in to explore to see what I can find. I also use this as an opportunity to get my coffee fixed for the rest of the drive.

Everything in Texas is spaced out far in between, it's crazy how different this state is compared to Colorado. I have noticed that the people here are extremely friendly. They will sit and have a conversation with you for hours if you let them. I kinda like that everyone is so friendly and accepting. It's a whole new environment than you will get out in Colorado. In Texas, you can say Hello to a stranger and they will smile and talk back to you. Out in Colorado if you say hello to a stranger they will give you a dirty look as they flip you off.  Or they will just shoot you for showing kindness to them. Whichever came first is what you got in Colorado.

After about four more hours I reached my destination in Commerce Texas. The heat here is crazy, but then again I already knew that it was going to be a change for me. I parked in front of the building where I am supposed to check in at. I can feel the anxiety billed in my stomach as I start my walk to the main doors.

As I walk through there is so much going on that I am surprised by all of the craziness that surrounds me. It's all exciting but it's also nerve-racking at the same time. I stood in line to check in as previous students help the incoming freshmen with direction and guidance. After check-in and all of our stuff was put into our dorms, we began our freshmen orientation.   Freshmen orientation was boring but they usually are as they give big speeches about how happy you are there with them. How great it is that you choose this school to continue your education. After all the boring speeches they made us go into a gym for some bonding experience. After an hour of playing multiple stupid games with stangers that I don't know we go back to our dorms to change into swimming suits.

We are all going to end the day at the rec center. I was unsure if I was comfortable going swimming with people that I don't know. I don't want to show others my body, I feel like I am not skinny or pretty enough to show others what's under my clothing. I decided that I will go to see what it's like. If I don't like it then I can always leave and go back to my room. Besides, I have met my roommate yet. I don't even think that she is here yet as my stuff is the only thing in the room.

The rec center was pretty cool. There are a lot of things that you can do here. You can play volleyball, Basketball, or you can work out on the equipment that they have. Then you have the huge swimming pool. There were people everywhere that had this suffocating feeling of joy. Once I took everything in I started to relax some until my eyes meet his.
