Chapter 3

Author: Simply So
Seventeen-year-old Brandon knew that I was allergic to alcohol.

Hence, even during our wedding ceremony, he did all the drinking for me.

However, other women had occupied his mind. He had long forgotten about that.

Brandon still had two more chances.

My face was very soon covered in rashes. I felt extremely dizzy.

Brandon finally recalled that I had an allergy.

He was frantic, and his eyes were filled with guilt.

“Rhea, let me take you to the hospital.”

I used to feel moved by his care.

However, it was no longer the case. Instead, I felt disgusted.

I flung his hand aside and said, “It’s fine. I’ll head home and eat some medicine. Enjoy yourself.”

“No, you’re my wife! How can I let you go alone?”

Brandon sounded anxious.

He immediately stood up and quickly threw a jacket over my shoulders.

“Let’s go to the hospital. If not, I’ll be too worried.”

After that, he ignored everyone’s shocked gazes and Anna’s disgruntled expression.

He grabbed my arm and dragged me out of the private room.

When we reached the hospital, Brandon rushed to the registration counter, accompanied me to see a doctor, and then retrieved my medications for me.

He rushed and muttered, “Rhea, just hold on a little longer. You’ll feel better soon.”

It was not until he heard the doctor say that I was fine that his anxious face relaxed a little.

As I lay on the hospital bed, he grabbed my hand and stared intently into my eyes.

“Rhea, it’s my fault. If something happens to you because of that glass of wine, I’ll never forgive myself!”

I stared at him and felt conflicted.

I had never doubted Brandon’s feelings for me.

He indeed loved me, which was why he treated me so well and cared so much about me.

However, his love was worthless.

Someone else got the same thing without lifting a finger.

I looked away.

I saw the seventeen-year-old Brandon tearing up next to me.

He seemed like he wanted to speak but decided against it.

I suddenly felt really tired from the physical discomfort and mental exhaustion. I just really wanted to sleep.

I said to Brandon, “I’m going to sleep.”

He carefully tucked me in and pushed my hair away from my face.

He looked at me with gentle eyes. “Just sleep. I’ll be here.”

I nodded and ignored him.

Just when I was about to fall asleep, Brandon’s cell phone started to ring.

I could feel his gaze temporarily shifting away from me in hesitation.

Then, he took his phone with him as he quietly exited the ward.

I opened my eyes and stared at the ceiling for a really long time. However, Brandon did not return.

His seventeen-year-old self reappeared.

He lowered his head and dodged my gaze.

“Did Anna ask him to leave?”

Brandon did not speak. Instead, he bit his bottom lip and clenched his fists.

I smiled mockingly.

“Where did he go?”

Brandon was silent for a really long time before he forced himself to speak.

“The car park.”

I unplugged the IV on my hand and got out of bed.

Brandon stopped me and sounded anxious.

“Rhea, maybe he has something to do. Please don’t go, please!”

He was almost begging me at the end.

I stared at him stubbornly as tears welled up in my eyes.

He was also staring at me, then he finally took a step aside.

Anna was captured and treated, then she was locked up in prison for attempted murder. She travelled miles and ended up in prison. Why would she do that?Fortunately, my problems finally ended. I could resume my new life. Benjamin still visited me every single day, knowing that I had recovered. He still wore his black beret as he slowly walked into the shop and triggered the windchimes at the entrance. I turned around and saw him walking toward me with a smile. “Are you feeling better?”Even though his injuries were more serious than mine, he seemed nonchalant. “Thanks for asking, I’m feeling a lot better. “Do you still want a box of donuts?”He rubbed his hands. “If possible, can I customize a cake to confess my love?”I believed that it was Benjamin’s nature to be this proactive. Besides, he had saved my life. It was normal for him to want to pursue this further. “I’m sorry, but I’m really exhausted. “I gave away all my love when I was seventeen. I thought that

However, he always texted me and urged me to tell him when Brandon pestered me.Even though we stayed quite close to each other, he did not show up unannounced. Only sometimes he would turn up unannounced when he had made something creative that he wanted to give me.When I looked at his art, I felt refreshed and renewed, like a piece of dry land after a thunderstorm. I suddenly felt that he had such a magical effect in healing others. I was swinging between unease and surprise. With Brandon around, I would never have peace. I felt my quiet life was disturbed. Benjamin indeed treated me really well, but it was not enough to heal the hurt Brandon had caused me. I believed anyone in my position would feel the same way. I thought Brandon was the only festering wound in my life when Anna showed up one day.Anna was stalking Brandon when she traced my current place. To her, if it were not for me, Brandon would not have forced her to get an abortion, and her life would not hav

Brandon barged in rudely. He grabbed Benjamin’s arm and punched him in his chest. Benjamin fell onto a chair. “Rhea is my wife! How dare you confess to her?”“Rhea?” He stared at Brandon and me in confusion. I stood before Brandon in anger. “Enough!“You know what you did!” Brandon looked guilty and said in a low voice, “It was my fault in the past… It’s my fault today as well. I’m sorry for putting you in a difficult spot.”Despite his apology, why would he appear before me and upset me again if he clearly knew what he did?I thought fate had let me off the hook, but I had circled back to where I started. I had already left the country and started a new life. I really did not want to deal with this. “No need to apologize. I will never forgive you.”Brandon was a little anxious. “Rhea, hear me out. I have nothing to do with Anna anymore!“Besides, Anna aborted the child. There’s a chance for us to be like how we were in the past.“Believe me, Anna was the end of

He went against his conscience because he took my forgiveness for granted. Because of that, his cheap desires had stopped feeling risky and wrong. His betrayal brought him happiness and no consequences, hence he continued his affairs. However, he forgot the fact that as he was changing, and I was too. He had become arrogant, and I had become more sensitive. It was his own actions because of which I left him. However, Brandon did not want to believe it. He did not believe that I would leave without saying goodbye. He was hopeful that I would forgive him, despite his unforgivable acts. In order to leave my past behind, I moved overseas.Everything was foreign to me, and I started to familiarize myself with it. I opened a dessert shop. I hoped my desserts would bring me more dopamine so I would not have nightmares about my past. He only heard the cold, automated voice through the phone. It was finally hitting him that we were indeed through.I was annoyed by the constant ringing. I finally decided to shut my phone down to get a moment of peace. From Brandon’s perspective, this was me making it clear to him. He finally could not lie to himself. For him, if I loved him without reason, I would be able to accept his wrongdoings. However, if my love really was like that, what difference would my love be from his cheap love? Brandon was anxious. He knew that I always kept my promise. It was not good to go back on one’s word. Even though Brandon was tired after spending a night at the hospital, he drove back home without any hesitation. The scenery blurred before Brandon’s eyes. The cold air from outside went into his lungs as he panted. His face was twisted in pain. However, Brandon did not roll up his car windows. He did not even slow down. He sped home, but when he opened the door, on

In the hospital corridor that smelled of antiseptic, people sighed loudly. The dimmed lights made the hall appear even quieter. It was a place where happy endings and tragedies both occurred. Brandon sent Anna to the emergency room. The doctor carried out a detailed examination of her. “Don’t worry, Ms. Smith’s fine, and the child is healthy.“Remember to do your routine check-ups.”Anna seemed to be dissatisfied with the doctor’s conclusion. If she were healthy, how would she be able to gain Brandon’s sympathy?“But… but my tummy really hurts a lot.“Doctor, did you miss out on any tests? I don’t mind suffering a little to make sure my child is safe,” Anna sat up and said in a trembling voice. She kept glancing at Brandon, who looked anxious. However, she knew he was not anxious for Anna. We had parted messily.I had seen Brandon and his unspeakable act. How would he be able to stay calm?He was extremely agitated. He was trying to guess my thoughts and mood, a
