I stared at him. Blinded by his words, unseeing and deafened by the lie that had just fallen out of my father's lips.
"What…what did you say?" I whispered, as a deep tremor overtook me. This was one of those times when I'd run to my dad, or Aiden, and dad would give me a hug and tell me not to worry, or Aiden would make me laugh with his jokes.
But this? What was this? How was I supposed to take this lie?!
I stood up sharply from the chair so fast I hit my left knee on the edge of the desk. The pain raced up and down my legs but I paid it no mind. "You're lying, dad. You're lying to me, to us. Why are you lying to me?!"
"Amelia, calm down, sweetie—"
"Don't call me that." I breathed fast, the air rushing in and out of me, my eyesight becoming spotty as I stood there and looked at him. "Why are you doing this?"
"Amelia, if you would just calm down, I'll tell you everything. Everything. You're old enough to know now, sweetie. I wanted you to know, I didn't want to hurt you, but it's important that you know this."
I started shaking my head. "I don't need to know anything. I'm your daughter, I've always been your daughter, you said I was your little girl."
He rounded the desk, coming to hold my hands, and I let him. He would laugh now, telling me this was some sort of joke.
"Sweetie, you are my little girl, don't you see? Even if you're not mine biologically, I still love you like my own. You and Aiden can become mates and you'll be—"
I stumbled out of his hold, dropping his hands. "How can you say that? Aiden is my brother, a brother and a sister can't…we can't…we can't be what you want us to be!"
I turned to look at Aiden, and his face was as if carved out of stone. "Aiden, say something."
His eyes flashed to mine and I swallowed a shocked gasp. He looked livid. "Say what? Hmm, Amelia? Tell Dad that I'm never going to agree to this? That he might want to make you his true daughter by mating you to me, but that I would never ever become yoked to you?" His eyes returned to dad's face, and they both squared off, their eyes battling each other.
"He already knows that, Amelia. He knows I'm never going to be part of this bullshit." And he got up and stalked out of the room, slamming the door so hard, I stumbled back a few steps, bringing my hands to my ears.
"Amelia, I know this is upsetting—"
"Upsetting? You think having my dad tell me I'm not his daughter is just upsetting?" I touched my face and felt wet tears, and I could feel some more falling.
I left the study, ignoring all his calls for me to stop. I wasn't going to listen to anymore of this.
My eyes shed some more tears as I rushed out of the pack house, the pitiful glances my pack mates were throwing my way making me angrier, making me feel even more pathetic.
I flagged down a taxi and jumped in, telling the driver to start driving. I wasn't sure where, but anywhere far away from here would do just fine.
~
I sniffed, taking the shot and downing it in one single gulp again.
I looked around me. My filmy eyes seeing, but not really seeing what had to be a bar. I'd circled the block before finally telling the taxi driver to drop me off at this bar. He'd looked so relieved.
The barman hadn't asked me anything, just brought me the shots I asked for, as if he sensed the mood I was in.
The shot glass slid in front of me again, and I went to grab it when a hand stopped me.
My eyes followed what looked like a very strong and firm hand up to a suited body, and a male face.
I swallowed, hard. He looked hot, from the little I could see of him in the dim lights of the bar.
His grey eyes took me in, and I blushed, wondering how I looked to him. I still had on my red halter top and black leather skirt, but I had cried multiple times this night and I was sure my face looked like a mess.
I wasn't anywhere near my confident space to do anything with a guy this hot. So I looked away and deftly tried to pat my hair down into something that didn't make me look like a runaway teen.
He drank down my drink with barely a blink and I watched his eyes as they watched me. I couldn't see all of him clearly, but his hair was tied back out of his face, and I'd just never seen a man pull off hair like a woman's in the same effortless, hot way he did it.
"You've had enough shots of whatever that is, little girl."
I scowled. "Just because you're hot, it doesn't give you any right to tell me what to do, you—you male chauvinist."
It must’ve been the alcohol talking.
He cocked an eyebrow. "Male chauvinist?"
I wanted to wipe the smirk off his stupid, really sexy lips, but I couldn't drag my eyes off his face long enough to do anything else.
Damn. I'd called him hot. To. His. Face.
I groaned, and clamped my lips shut, begging my inner hoe to please shut the fuck up.
"I just thought you'd like to slow down. Perhaps I should just return to my table."
I watched him as he said it, making no move to get up. In fact, he'd joined me without an invite from me, and he'd made himself quite comfortable, very quickly.
Infuriating.
And hot.
I swallowed. "I don't want any company."
"Of course you do. Mine anyway. You just don't want to say it. You can sit there and enjoy my company."
"Arrogant asshole."
"No, it's Darius." He smirked again. In fact, maybe his face just looked like that. Perfect suit, perfect pearly whites and a really simmering gaze. I got up to leave and his hand snapped out, holding my wrist in his large palm.
My breath quivered out of me, and I sucked it back in quickly, too quickly, because his touch did things to me that were mind melting.
I tried to shrug him off, and he immediately let go of my wrist. I regretted it. I wanted his hand on me again.
"I didn't mean to spook you or anything." He chuckled and the sound of his deep voice vibrated through me.
Maybe it was the drink.
Why else would I be so attracted to someone I'd just met?
"Sit down…?" He trailed off, obviously asking for my name.
I rolled my eyes, but I couldn't deny I was excited at his interested. I felt all hot and bothered. And that was a better feeling to focus on than the feeling I'd been sitting with since I left home.
"Amelia." I didn't know why I told him sharply, sitting back down in the low backed chair I'd been occupying seconds ago.
He smiled, and I swore, the entire dim demeanor of the bar fucking lit up. His eyes gleamed, and I guessed at the color. Blue? Grey maybe?
I liked him, and more importantly I liked how he was making me forget about what a disaster this night had been. And so I did something I'd never done before.
"Hey. Want me to sit on your cock?"
Amelia I felt my heart jackknifing against my chest as I bolted up from the bed, letting go of the cold bars immediately. What the hell happened last night? Aside from the mind-blowing sex, there wasn’t much I could remember from last night. The alcohol had done a number on me but the stranger’s face stuck in my memory. He wasn’t the kind of man you would forget in a hurry, his long brown hair and eyes that seemed to shift from grey to black were imprinted in my head. I was struggling to remember his name. Darius, was it?I reached over to the other side but my hands roamed over the cold surface of the metal I was lying on, there was no one there. He was gone. He left me here all alone like I didn’t matter to him. To be sincere, I probably didn’t. Going home with a stranger I met at a club was easily the wildest thing I’ve ever done in my eighteen years on earth. My eyes were getting used to the darkness and I moved closer to the bars of the c
Amelia I wanted him, and I wanted him now. We'd gone up to his room at a hotel and he was kissing me.Finally.Up against the wall, with Darius caging me in from all corners, my whole body sang with need. I wanted him in me. I rubbed against him, but he did something that shocked me into stillness. He slid his large hand to the back of my neck, lowered his head to smell me, running his nose from my collarbone, along my neck, and stopping just behind my ear.“You’re really hot. Just my type.”My toes curled and I forgot all about the pain of learning I wasn't my father's daughter. The intimacy made me shudder, stimulating the tingle in my stomach and between my legs. A moan escaped from the back of my throat and I arched into him, threading my arms around his neck. He stilled, his expression a mixture of pleasant surprise and something else—i wanted him to look at me only with want, and a need even deeper than my own. I wanted us to really g

Amelia Gasps and exclamations echoed around me, but my attention was on Aiden "Mates? Mates how? We're brother and sister, we can't be mated to each other." I threw sideways glances at the crowd, catching my friends eyes. They were laughing. What the hell was funny about this?He waved around like a lunatic, laughing widely. "I don't know, you tell me! Dad's said we're to become mates, he hasn't exactly offered up any explanations to me, so I came here, to you." He poked a finger at me, his eyes glinting with suspicion."Didn't you know about this, Amelia? He tells you fucking everything, for fucks sake."His calling me Amelia was seriously pissing me off more than anything. "It's obviously a mistake, or something, Aiden. We can't be mated to each other, that's just not possible. So calm down and—""You think I don't know this is freaking impossible? It's so fucking weird and dad wouldn't say it if he didn't mean it."My mind blanked as he k
Amelia I have a party in exactly eight hours and my closet never looked this confusing.I wasn't sure what to wear to my birthday party later today yet, and I had so many alternatives to pick from, it was driving me crazy. My lips curled into a smile as I heard the footsteps outside my bedroom door. They always woke me up this way, every birthday I've had for the past eighteen years. I stopped throwing out clothes from my closet and dived under the covers, pretending to be asleep. I didn't want them to meet me already up and about. I didn't hear their steps as they always tiptoe, but I felt the bed sink in as someone sat on the foot."Wake up, birthday girl!" Aiden yelled, pulling at my sheets and then tumbling into bed with me. I stubbornly stayed there, eyes shut tightly and inwardly dying of laughter."We know you're not sleeping." He said in a singsong voice, his hands going to the sides of my tummy and tickling me. The squeal left my l
