Gasps and exclamations echoed around me, but my attention was on Aiden "Mates? Mates how? We're brother and sister, we can't be mated to each other." I threw sideways glances at the crowd, catching my friends eyes.
They were laughing. What the hell was funny about this?
He waved around like a lunatic, laughing widely. "I don't know, you tell me! Dad's said we're to become mates, he hasn't exactly offered up any explanations to me, so I came here, to you." He poked a finger at me, his eyes glinting with suspicion.
"Didn't you know about this, Amelia? He tells you fucking everything, for fucks sake."
His calling me Amelia was seriously pissing me off more than anything. "It's obviously a mistake, or something, Aiden. We can't be mated to each other, that's just not possible. So calm down and—"
"You think I don't know this is freaking impossible? It's so fucking weird and dad wouldn't say it if he didn't mean it."
My mind blanked as he kept yelling at me. "Okay then, what do you want me to say? I already told you, I don't know what this is! He didn't say anything to me before." My voice caught on the last word, and I sniffled, trying hard to stave off the tears.
I was so fucking embarrassed.
"I don't care what it is dad is playing at with this, but I'm never ever going to be mated to you, Amelia. In fact, I reject you as my mate."
He swiveled around and everyone shifted out of his path, his stupid friends trailing after him.
The tears fell freely, and I swiped at them angrily. Why the fuck was I crying?
It's not like I was hurt by his obvious rejection, he only said that because siblings can't be mated to each other.
But that didn't explain the distaste and anger in his voice, all directed at me!
I wiped the tears, the anger already knotting me up inside. I turned to the crowd, not sure what to say or do to diffuse the situation.
The party mood was already ruined. Nothing I do can fix this.
My thoughts and emotions were swirling around in my head when I felt Leslie and Nadia crowd in beside me.
"What was that?" Leslie nodded towards the doorway, where Aiden and his friends had left in furious haste.
Nadia giggled and I turned on her immediately. "Is there anything funny about this to you, Nadia?"
She broke into a fit of laughter and I got more pissed. I wanted to hit her nose and shut her up, but I bet she'd just heal right up.
Besides if we got into a fight, she'd heal up while I'd be stuck with the wounds cause I was a fucking omega.
"I'm sorry, Amelia. It's just, can you imagine that? Being mated to your own brother? What are you guys now, fucking Lannisters?" She chortled at her own stupid joke and Leslie laughed with her, before throwing me an apologetic look.
I could hear laughter around me, and I saw red.
That did it.
"Everyone get out!" I yelled. "Get the fuck out. Party's over."
Nadia went to touch me but I yanked my hand away, turning away from them, all of them. "You two too. Just—everyone get out."
I was sure they heard me perfectly well.
I walked across the dancefloor, the decorations in the club pissing me off now that my mood was ruined.
What the hell was wrong with Daddy, to make an announcement like that?
Was he even aware of the situation he'd put us in, put me in? And on my fucking birthday!
I got into the car, and slammed the door. Good thing I wasn't driving myself home, or there'd be trouble.
I fumed in the back of the car as the driver drove back to the pack house.
~
I was out of the car in a second, storming through the front doors and up the stairs. I ignored all the greetings, knowing they must already have heard of what my dad said.
My heart beat wildly as I marched to his study, pushing the door open with as much strength as my anger fueled.
Dad was in there with some of the pack elders and they all turned to me as I stood there, eyes blazing and guns set to fire.
"Dad, what's going on? Why would you mate me to…to Aiden? To my brother?!"
His eyes darkened ominously and I could read his eyes. He wasn't denying it immediately.
I gasped.
Before now I'd really thought this was some kind of sick joke. Or a prank. I'd almost fully convinced myself of it.
"Dad?!"
"This is not the time, Amelia."
There again, with that Amelia b.s. They both never called me that!
"Dad, please tell me what's going on?" My anger was dissolving fast and leaving me defenseless and unsure.
None of this made any sense.
My dad cleared his throat and dismissed the council meeting. They all left, but not fast enough.
I walked up to my dad's desk and pulled one of the swivel chairs out and sank into it, my heart in my throat as I waited for him to talk.
The door swung open with a loud bang against the wall and I twisted sharply in my chair to see Aiden coming in with a scowl I knew matched the one I had on my face.
He stalked to the second chair beside me and sank into it, not bothering to say a word.
I could feel the waves of rage rising off him, and I wanted to tell him I was sorry, but this wasn't my fault. I was just as hurt as he was by this. And it hurts me that he thinks this is somehow my fault.
"I know I shocked the both of you with my announcement today." Dad looked at me
Aiden scoffed. "Shocked is the least of it."
"Why did you say such a thing?"
Dad sighed and steepled his hands on his desk in front of him. "Aiden, Amelia, I could only make this announcement today because you turned eighteen today, Amelia and I think you are old enough to know some things now."
A chill raced up my spine and I stiffened in my chair.
Whatever he was about to say, I knew without a shred of doubt would destroy the peace and quiet in my entire existence.
"Amelia, sweetheart, you're not my biological daughter."
Amelia I felt my heart jackknifing against my chest as I bolted up from the bed, letting go of the cold bars immediately. What the hell happened last night? Aside from the mind-blowing sex, there wasn’t much I could remember from last night. The alcohol had done a number on me but the stranger’s face stuck in my memory. He wasn’t the kind of man you would forget in a hurry, his long brown hair and eyes that seemed to shift from grey to black were imprinted in my head. I was struggling to remember his name. Darius, was it?I reached over to the other side but my hands roamed over the cold surface of the metal I was lying on, there was no one there. He was gone. He left me here all alone like I didn’t matter to him. To be sincere, I probably didn’t. Going home with a stranger I met at a club was easily the wildest thing I’ve ever done in my eighteen years on earth. My eyes were getting used to the darkness and I moved closer to the bars of the c
Amelia I wanted him, and I wanted him now. We'd gone up to his room at a hotel and he was kissing me.Finally.Up against the wall, with Darius caging me in from all corners, my whole body sang with need. I wanted him in me. I rubbed against him, but he did something that shocked me into stillness. He slid his large hand to the back of my neck, lowered his head to smell me, running his nose from my collarbone, along my neck, and stopping just behind my ear.“You’re really hot. Just my type.”My toes curled and I forgot all about the pain of learning I wasn't my father's daughter. The intimacy made me shudder, stimulating the tingle in my stomach and between my legs. A moan escaped from the back of my throat and I arched into him, threading my arms around his neck. He stilled, his expression a mixture of pleasant surprise and something else—i wanted him to look at me only with want, and a need even deeper than my own. I wanted us to really g
AmeliaI stared at him. Blinded by his words, unseeing and deafened by the lie that had just fallen out of my father's lips. "What…what did you say?" I whispered, as a deep tremor overtook me. This was one of those times when I'd run to my dad, or Aiden, and dad would give me a hug and tell me not to worry, or Aiden would make me laugh with his jokes. But this? What was this? How was I supposed to take this lie?!I stood up sharply from the chair so fast I hit my left knee on the edge of the desk. The pain raced up and down my legs but I paid it no mind. "You're lying, dad. You're lying to me, to us. Why are you lying to me?!""Amelia, calm down, sweetie—""Don't call me that." I breathed fast, the air rushing in and out of me, my eyesight becoming spotty as I stood there and looked at him. "Why are you doing this?""Amelia, if you would just calm down, I'll tell you everything. Everything. You're old enough to know now, sweetie. I wanted you to

Amelia I have a party in exactly eight hours and my closet never looked this confusing.I wasn't sure what to wear to my birthday party later today yet, and I had so many alternatives to pick from, it was driving me crazy. My lips curled into a smile as I heard the footsteps outside my bedroom door. They always woke me up this way, every birthday I've had for the past eighteen years. I stopped throwing out clothes from my closet and dived under the covers, pretending to be asleep. I didn't want them to meet me already up and about. I didn't hear their steps as they always tiptoe, but I felt the bed sink in as someone sat on the foot."Wake up, birthday girl!" Aiden yelled, pulling at my sheets and then tumbling into bed with me. I stubbornly stayed there, eyes shut tightly and inwardly dying of laughter."We know you're not sleeping." He said in a singsong voice, his hands going to the sides of my tummy and tickling me. The squeal left my l
