Chapter 8

What was I going to tell him? It is like he has already known about it, but wants to hear it from me?

This is what I have been trying to avoid, to face my past. But you can't run from it.

"I don't like when I am being lied to, miss Hayden," he emphasized. I wanted to roll my eyes. But right now is not the right time.

I sighed. "he's my ex."

"I know," he said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. You see guys.

"I have a meeting at 10, you're coming with me," he said.

So that was it? He surely knows how to scare the crap out of someone, I thought he was going to fire me for a second.

"uh... Okay." I said looking around, I have no idea what to do next. So I just stood there.

Awkward.

"you're not doing what you're supposed to be doing," he said after some time. He was looking deep into it.

What was I supposed to be doing? I have no idea, I have never done a job like this before and he knows that. He's probably trying to get on my nerves as he seems to enjoy that a lot. I would have ignored him, but you know.

"uh... What am I supposed to be doing?" I asked dumbly. He just rolled his eyes checking his time.

"let's go," he said walking out. Damn, he was fast. With his long strides, I have to run to keep up with him.

"can you slow down a bit?" I asked hoping he would.

"I don't take orders from you miss Hayden," he said, he didn't stop he increased it.

"It wasn't an order, it was a question!"

"I'd prefer you keep your mouth shut miss Hayden," he said.

Ugh!

Soon we stopped in front of a door. He pushed the doorknob open and entered. I arrange my suit before entering.

I wasn't expecting to see him, I thought he left!

Xavier sat on the seat opposite him. I walked to the corner of the room awkwardly.

I could feel his eyes on me.

When are they going to be done? I felt so uncomfortable. They were talking. I didn't even hear anything, mainly because I wasn't focused.

My head down, and my mind on different things.

I jocked my head up when I heard a chair shriek. It was Jack, he stood up. His jaw clenched and his fist clenched.

What happened? He looked at Xavier, who didn't even seem to care, his face emotionless. He also stood up.

I just realized Xavier was 3 inches taller.

"This isn't over." jack said through clenched teeth. He walked out of the room, but not before he glanced at me.

I walked up to Xavier. "what happened?" I asked curiously.

"None of your business." he snapped, making me want to hit him.

But I couldn't for two reasons.

One, he might fire me and you know what that means.

Two, there is so much muscle in his body and my hand will hurt.

I glared at his back as the left, then I slowly followed him.

A lady came in front of him.

"show her the office," he said as she smiles flirtatiously at him. I rolled my eyes.

Don't ask me why, because I don't even know why myself.

She noticed me rolling my eyes and she eyed me suspiciously before looking back at Xavier. She smiled.

"sure" she bit her lower lip, which was so red from lipstick.

"Follow me," she said. So I followed her. We reached an office just beside Xavier's office.

Why didn't he show me himself if it was close to his office?

We entered the office. It was magnificent. Wow.

I was dragged out of my thoughts when the lady yanked my arm. "stay away from Xavier." she snarled.

She said it like I was seducing her boyfriend. I wanted to challenge her, but that would only make it seem true.

But he's not her boyfriend though. Who cares?!

I yanked my arm out of her grip.

"Okay, I don't know what you're talking about."

"you can pretend all you want, but I'm watching, so stay away from him," she said whipping around before going out the door.

I sighed. Sitting down on the armchair.

~

It's been a month since I have been working here. I have learned the procedures.

My office phone rang, and I picked it up.

"file 089." it was Xavier. I have been giving him lof lots of filesize for the last two days.

Xavier has been acting weird lately. He has been avoiding looking into my eyes.

Let me tell you, I have gotten used to it. I got up and walked to his office. I placed the file on his desk.

"Leave," he said rather arrogantly.

I was about to leave, but I have to go buy something. Carrie had asked me to buy her something.

"uh... Boss, can I go out I'd be back in 30mins. I promise."

"where are you going? Mind you it's 5 pm. It's dangerous." he said.

I smiled, so he cares for me...

"don't think I care, 'cause I don't," he said.

"if you don't then it won't be a problem to let me go now."

"fine!" he snapped. "but be back before 5:30 pm." he said looking at his wristwatch. "you have 26 minutes, 27 seconds."

I wanted to roll my eyes but then he would see it, so I nod. Then turn around and rolled my eyes, before walking out.

I walked out of the building. I tried finding what I was looking for but wasn't around. So I walked deeper.

This is for Carrie.

I walked inside a strange street. What the heck was I doing.

I heard muffle the voice of a lady. I quickly hid.

I saw a man behind a young lady. He covered her mouth to prevent her from screaming.

"you're fucking playing a dangerous game Layla, no one mess with me and go free." what should I do?

I was just behind them. I don't know what got into my head.

"POLICE! SOMEBODY HELP!" okay, I'm such an idiot.

"This isn't over." the guy said to the lady, before dropping her. She fell to the ground.

I quickly ran to her. "miss, are you okay?" I asked helping her out.

But then I saw her face. A splitting image of me.

It felt like a dream.

We had the same appearance. She noticed me. Her face contorted with hatred.

Layla.
