Chapter 4

Author: Solemn Vale
Ethan froze for a moment before his expression darkened even more.

“It is only money. As long as you stay with me, you will never worry about food or a place to live for the rest of your life. Why are you so obsessed with this? Olivia is raising a child on her own. Treat it as helping her and let this go.”

He pulled a checkbook from his drawer and tore out a check. “How much do you want? Fill it in yourself. Stop making a scene.”

“I do not want your charity.” I did not take the check. “I only want what belongs to me. My copyrights, my awards, my recognition. I am taking all of it back.”

Ethan lifted his eyes toward me. Something cold and dangerous settled inside them.

“You would not dare. Do not forget, everything you eat and everything you own was given to you by me.

“Half the business world in Stormbay answers to me now. If you insist on turning this ugly, do not blame me for forgetting our past.”

My whole body stiffened.

In that instant, my heart turned completely icy.

I had seen Ethan’s ruthless side many times in business, yet I never imagined he would use that same cruelty against me.

The tension in the room grew sharper by the second. Olivia suddenly cried out in panic. “Ethan, something is wrong. His asthma is acting up.”

Ethan’s face changed at once. He grabbed the child and hurried toward the door without looking at me again.

As he passed me, he called for security.

“Throw this lunatic out. Do not let her step into this company again.”

I stood frozen, watching the three of them disappear down the hallway while every ounce of strength drained from my body.

The guards dragged me outside and left me on the street. I stared at the city I had lived in for five years. For the first time, it felt unfamiliar.

Only one thought remained.

Leave.

The sooner, the better.

I returned to the house Ethan and I had lived in for five years and packed my things in a hurry. I wrapped my parents’ belongings carefully and placed them deep inside my suitcase.

When I dragged the suitcase to the door and opened it, two police officers stood outside.

“Do not move. Who are you, and what are you doing here?”

I froze.

“My name is Vivian. I have lived here for five years, and I am packing my things to leave.”

One of the officers pulled out a copy of the property ownership documents and held it in front of me.

“The legal owner of this house is Ms. Lynch. She reported that you entered her home without permission and attempted to take valuable property. You are suspected of theft.

“Please cooperate with the investigation and come with us.”

The world spun around me.

I never imagined that even the house I lived in for five years belonged to Olivia.

How many things had Ethan been hiding from me?

No matter how desperately I explained, the officers still treated me like a thief.

During the struggle, my suitcase crashed onto the floor. The officers dragged it across the ground until it burst open, scattering everything inside.

My parents’ photo frame hit the floor. Glass shattered everywhere and scratched the picture beyond recognition.

My mother’s treasured bracelet fell out and snapped into two pieces.

“That is mine.”

I tried to bend down to pick it up, but the officers held my arms tightly.

“Do not touch anything. Until the investigation is complete, all of this is considered stolen property.

“Come with us.”

I could not defend myself at all.

At the police station, they followed procedure, took my statement, and then called Ethan to confirm my identity and ask about the situation.

“Mr. Ferguson? This is the local police department. We have a woman named Vivian here who is suspected of stealing property belonging to Ms. Lynch. We would like to verify her identity with you, along with some related details.”

“Nothing left?” Samuel actually laughed.“Mr. Ferguson, is that not exactly what you are right now? You have already lost everything. That is what we wanted my sister to see.”He turned toward me, and his tone softened.“Vivian, look carefully. He is exactly the same now as when you followed him to Stormbay years ago. Broke and powerless. Honestly, even worse than before.“The business empire he built is gone. He is sitting in prison, and this is the consequence he owes you.”I looked at Ethan calmly, as if I were watching a drama that no longer had anything to do with me.“Ethan, we are over.”His entire body shook. The light in his eyes faded.“Vivian… you cannot do this to me.”“When I followed you to Stormbay,” I said quietly, “you had nothing.“I left my parents. I abandoned my home and stayed beside you through every hardship because I believed we would spend our lives together. I thought you would always be the person I could rely on.“I never imagined that for anothe

Please cooperate.” The officer’s tone stayed calm and emotionless.Ethan’s heart sank.In that moment, he understood. Everything had been planned long ago.Once Olivia’s betrayal was exposed, someone behind the scenes seized the chance to destroy the Ferguson Group and drag him down completely.“Who sent you?” Ethan demanded. The officers did not answer. One simply gestured toward the police car.“Mr. Ferguson, this way.”Reporters had already gathered outside. The moment they saw Ethan being escorted away, they rushed forward in a frenzy while camera flashes exploded around him.Ethan knew resisting would only make things worse. He took a deep breath and followed the police into the car.News of Ethan’s arrest spread through the business world almost immediately. With no leader in charge, th

“You think I would not dare?”Ethan’s eyes burned with fury as his grip tightened around Olivia’s throat.“Of course you would not.” Olivia shouted recklessly, as if she had nothing left to lose. “You are one of the top three richest people on the Forbes list now. You have money, power, and status. You would never throw all that away.“You are just an idiot who got played by a woman. Vivian was the only one stupid enough to stay by your side.”“You still dare mention Vivian?” The rage inside Ethan exploded. His hand tightened so much it seemed like he might crush her neck.Around them, the sounds of cameras snapping grew louder. Phone flashes lit up nonstop. The assistant rushed forward and grabbed Ethan’s arm.“Mr. Ferguson, not here. This is getting too much attention.”Only then did Ethan snap back to his senses. He looked around at the crowd gathering nearby and the dozens of phones pointed at him.Grinding his teeth, he released Olivia. She collapsed onto the floor, cou

Charles stared at the evidence spread across the desk. His body trembled, and his lips shook so badly he could barely speak.“I will give you one last chance,” Ethan said coldly. “Tell me everything you and Olivia did. Every detail. If you cooperate, maybe I will let you suffer a little less.”Charles hesitated, his eyes darting around the room.He knew exactly what kind of man Ethan was. If he stayed silent after falling into Ethan’s hands, the consequences would be unimaginable. He was also terrified of Olivia finding out he had betrayed her.Seeing him waver, Ethan gave a small glance toward the bodyguards. The two men stepped forward at once.“You should understand by now,” Ethan said, his voice icy, “that I did not get where I am today through kindness.”The threat in Ethan’s tone shattered the last of Charles’s resistance.“I will talk. I will tell you everything.” Charles nearly broke down crying as he confessed.Back when the Ferguson Group collapsed, he and Olivia ha

Olivia had spent the past few years at Ethan’s side, gentle and attentive. She took good care of the child and obeyed Ethan in everything. A woman like that seemed incapable of doing something so cruel.“This is ridiculous.” Ethan let out an icy snort and tossed the letter onto the desk. For some reason, the words in that letter clung to him like a thorn buried under his skin.He could not ignore them.Olivia had returned at the exact moment his company began to recover.Every now and then, she would casually ask about the company’s finances.Details he once overlooked connected together in his mind, one after another, and the uneasiness inside him grew stronger.Someone knocked on the office door. His assistant hurried inside.“Mr. Ferguson, we found something.”The assistant stepped forward and handed Ethan a file.“We have continued searching for Ms. Quinn’s whereabouts.
