LOGIN“I am with child.”Instantly, every trace of rage that had been coiled inside Drake dissolved like smoke in open air. The tension in his shoulders loosened and the fire in his chest went quiet. He stood stood there and stared at her for a while, his brain finding it hard to process a reaction.Elaina watched him nervously as he reaction didn't exactly give anything to work with, ”Drake, are you alright? You don't look…”She could finish her words because Drake pulled her in for a hug instantaneous. “Oh Elaina… you have just made me the happiest man in the world” he blurted out with a vulnerable and genuine tone that made her heart flutter and her knees feel weak. She smiled widely and hugged him back and they stayed in that position bursting with joy. Drake felt so giddy, her announcement echoed in his head so much that he didn't realise that he had tightened his hug with her. Elaina let out a small sound of protest, and he immediately loosened his grip, pulling back just enough to
The sky trembled and shook under the weight of wings. Drake flew at the front and behind him was a fearsome army that consisted of the red dragons from the Cradle of Flames, wyverns of the sky, and the forest drakes.Their force alone had people raise their heads at their numbers. Elaina sat firmly against Drake’s back, ready for the battle ahead with strong hope and determination. They all mirrored her feelings as well, the only option was coming out victorious. They decided that their camp ground was going to be the cradle of flames so a raven had already been sent for Aurora and Ryker to head there as well.Drake descended slowly on the familiar ruins, the damage was still there but the villagers had managed to clean up nicely so they had enough space to set their camp. The army flew down as well and they moved around smartly to set up tents or other basic amenities. Before Elaina could even steady herself fully, she saw her mother standing at the edge of the camp, her eyes search
Drake and Elaina embarked on their trip to The land of the Skyborn Wyverns.Elaina held onto him firmly, her cheek resting lightly against his scales, she watched as terrain below them changed to a different kind of ruins. It was as gory as the previous lands and it looked like it was purposefully well preserved for some reason. “Here it looks a little different, what happened here?” Elaina asked curiously. Drake’s voice was low, carried through their bond.“The sky-born wyverns had been the clan to suffer the most during the old war, they nearly went extinct and their numbers reduced drastically. In fact, I have little expectations of getting as much army as the forest drakes, I just need to know they have my support before we proceed” he said and paused before continuing, “And as for the land, the chief didn't fix some parts of it on purpose, he chose to preserve it so young dragons could go there to learn about the vicious old war and to never forget what they survived through”
When morning came, Drake stood at the edge of the ruins with a determined look on his face. Whatever he had been the night before was gone and what replaced it was undiluted resolve for justice.Elaina walked up to him and asked, “Are you ready to go? The other villagers will be here soon” she asked while she studied him keenly to make sure he was okay.“I have been ready, let's go” he answered, still avoiding her eyes, there was no emotion in his tone.Without another word, he willed his body to shift to his dragon form. It was swift and seamless like it always was and Elaina watched him till he was ready for her to climb on.Drake lowered himself, allowing her to climb onto his back and once they were secure, he wasted no time. With a powerful beat of his wings, he launched into the sky and left the ruins behind. The wind rushed past them but Drake did not slow down for once. He was impatient and acted with an urgency that Elaina understood. They flew for hours across lands that ha
Elaina eventually left Drake to rest her head. She laid next to him with her eyes closed but sleep was the last thing on her mind. It had been like that for a while now. Rest no longer came easily, not with everything weighing on her chest. And tonight, it was worse. She could feel his emotions through the bond. After her power had awaken she could finally feel the mate bond that she always wondered what it would feel like. But tonight was one of those nights she could really feel the downside to feeling one's mate emotions. They pressed against her like a storm she could not escape from, it was a bottomless abyss of Drake's sorrow, regret and anger. It all bled into her, heavy and suffocating. Her chest tightened at intervals as she lay there and her fingers folded into a tight fist as she held into the the fabric that covered her.It was too much, too real and raw that it knocked her out of breath several times. And then it struck her, Astrid, the old woman's prophecy was coming tr
The journey to the Cradle of Flames was a little too quiet, even the wind seemed to move differently as they drew closer. Aurora had stayed behind to keep watching of the situation there so it was just couples.Drake felt the disturbance and dread instinctively formed at the pit of his stomach, something was so terribly wrong he could feel it in his bones. He slowed the horse a little as his eyes narrowed in the distant outline of the cradle flames city, the fog was making it hard for him to see.Elaina noticed his changed in countenance and asked, “What is it?”Drake didn’t answer, instead his grip tightened on the reins and he pushed forward even faster, unease in his chest growing stronger with every step forward. They got to what was supposed to be the gate and their eyes widened in shock. Everything was in ruin, it was a gory scene. Burn marks were everywhere on the broken walls and the air carried a bitter scent of ash, smoke and death.Drake’s heart fell and he whispered in di
The scream was coming from a woman running towards them frantically. She looked quite frightened and out of breath, everyone was on alert eager to know what the ruckus was all about.“Great warriors! Come quick, there has been an ambush in the market and everything is a mess, the people are terrifi
“Thank you but we are good” Elaina rejected the couple's offer with a polite smile. They were in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people, it was better to be safe than sorry.“No, I insist… at least have a few bites, you must be missing home cooked food” Mrs Butterworth said as she pulled us to
“This journey is going to be a long one. I think we will need another horse, Zane is too weak to carry both of us. We need more clothes and food too for the journey. But we have no money with us, what do we do?” Elaina said with a tired sigh as she watched Drake roast the rabbit they had caught in
Elaina could barely process why everyone was so quiet when the audience suddenly bursted into cheers and appreciation. They were all standing; some folks were shaking profusely while tears streamed down their faces, some cheered happily with wet eyes from unshed tears, and others held a solemn gaze
