ELIRA’S POV

"You’re the key to everything Kael is trying to protect."

I couldn’t sleep that night.

And why does it feel like everyone knows something about me… pero ako walang kaalam- alam sa sarili ko. The mansion was quiet. Too quiet.

I grabbed my phone and checked the message again.

No sender. No reply. Just silence.

Then I remembered something.

May lumang chest sa attic. My mom told me about it once before she disappeared.

She said:

"If anything ever happens, check your grandfather’s old trunk. Some truths are hidden in dust, anak."

I crept up the stairs, using the small flashlight on my phone. It was cold. May amoy ng lumang kahoy at papel.

Then I saw it.

A black wooden chest, may ukit ng initials: V.E.V.

Virel... Elira... V.?

That’s my mother’s last name. Before she married Dad.0

My hands shook as I slowly opened it.

Inside:

• Old documents

• Yellowed letters

• A photo… of my mother.

Standing beside Kael’s father.

What?

“To whoever finds this… I never meant to bring danger to my daughter’s life. Kael’s father and I were once bound by a secret no one could understand — and Elira was never supposed to be involved. But if you’re reading this, then it means the past has caught up with the present. Protect her. She is the only one who can stop this.”

— V.E.V.

I dropped the letter. My heart was pounding.

My mom knew Kael’s family?

This isn’t just about business.

This is about legacy.

About me.

I didn’t care if he was in a meeting. I marched down the stairs, documents in hand.

Kael was reading the morning paper like nothing was wrong.

“You lied to me.”

He looked up, calm as ever. “About what?”

“You knew my mom. You knew this whole time that I was connected to your family.”

His expression didn’t change, but his eyes gave him away.

He stood up. “This isn’t the time—”

“Then when, Kael? After your secrets destroy me?”

“I was trying to protect you.”

“No. You were trying to control me.”

The silence between us cracked like glass.

Finally, he spoke. Slowly. Coldly. Painfully.

“I married you because I owe your mother a debt I can never repay. But don’t confuse duty with love.”

That hurt more than I thought it would.

I stepped back.

“Too late,” I said softly. “I already did.”

SCENE: OUTSIDE THE MANSION

I left without looking back.

But just as I reached the gates, I saw someone waiting.

Solene.

Smiling.

“Welcome to the truth, Mrs. Thorne,” she said. “Now do you finally understand? He was never yours.”

Kael insisted she stay close after the attack. Hindi niya ako mapayagang malayo sa kanya. I stood by the window, arms wrapped around myself. This one was heavy. Laced with a truth too painful to ignore. “Then come with me,” he said.

Maaga pa lang, gising na ako.I watched Azaira as she slept beside me—hugging her stuffed rabbit close, peaceful, innocent. I was holding a storm inside my chest. I followed him, dala ang dalawang mug ng mainit na tsaa.“Today’s the day,” sabi ko.He nodded. “She deserves answers.”“Pero paano natin sisimulan? “We’ll start with what matters—na hindi siya iniwan. Na minahal siya.”I looked out sa malawak na garden below. Azaira’s imaginary garden. Maybe it’s time she knew where the real one once existed. After breakfast, we brought her outside. It was quiet, the sun ba

Kael stared at the letter in his hands. His knuckles turned white habang hawak niya ito nang mahigpit. Halos madurog na ang papel.“I don’t know how to tell her,” bulong niya. “You don’t tell her right away. You show her. Slowly. Unti-unti. Let her feel it before she understands.”Tumingala siya. “And if she asks bakit siya iniwan?”Napahinto ako. “She was… taken.”Hindi ako makatulog nung gabi. “Her name was Azaira.”Mahal niya 'yon. Ramdam ko sa bawat titik, bawat linya. Pero bakit niya

  • THE CEO'S HIDDEN BRIDE    chapter 7

“Azaira wants to meet you,” Kael said habang pareho kaming nakatayo sa harap ng malaking bintana ng mansion. “But she doesn’t know who you are to me yet.”“Wife in secret,” I muttered.Kael didn’t react. But I knew he heard it. I saw the twitch in his jaw, the way his fingers gripped the railing just a little tighter.“I want to be honest with her… eventually,” he added, softer now. “She’s just a child, Elira. How many lies had been stacked between our families like bricks in a wall? High-pitched. Innocent. M

ELIRA’S POVPagkatapos ng nangyari kagabi sa ulan, I couldn’t sleep.Hindi dahil sa lamig. Hindi dahil sa basa pa ang buhok ko.Pero dahil sa sinabi ni Kael:"Falling in love with you… that’s what scares me."Hanggang ngayon, parang echo sa isip ko.Sinabi niya ba talaga 'yon?Or was I just too desperate to believe that the man who married me out of debt might actually love me back?Maaga akong bumaba. Suot ko pa rin ang oversized hoodie ko at ang basang damdamin ko.Kael wasn’t in the dining area. As usual.Pero may natanggap akong text from an unknown number:"Meet me at Grayleaf Tower. 11 A.M. Don't bring him. This is about your life."Hindi ko na tinanong kung sino. I knew in my gut.Solene.The wind was sharp, parang tinutusok ang balat ko.Solene was already there, nakaupo sa corner table, red lipstick again, and that same confident, deadly smile."Hindi kita inimbita para mag-away," she started, sipping

KAEL’S POVI watched her walk away. I should’ve told her.But how do you explain a truth that’s older than both of you?A promise made between two people you tried so hard to forget?I stood there in silence, pretending I didn’t care but in my head there's many questions running. But the moment the door closed behind her...I did.Wala akong dalang payong.Of course not. How could I have expected a storm? One step away from Kael. One step closer to the unknown. Then I heard footsteps behind me.“Elira, wait.”I stopped. Slowly, I turned.Kael.Basang-basa rin. No umbrella. No suit. Just the truth in his eyes for the first time.“Bakit?
