She returned home looking frustrated and famished. She was so worn out and fatigued that she lay on the couch for over twenty minutes. First day at work, but it felt like she had been in slavery since forever.
After a while, she carried herself up from the couch and headed to the bathroom. She noticed that the room looked so untouched, which meant that her friend wasn't back.Daisy had returned home by some minutes past 6pm while the normal closing time was 4pm. Stacy should have been back by now, she thought. She had never missed coming home on time, except she travelled. Daisy searched for her phone at that moment and immediately she caught hold of it, she dialed the number. At the first ring, there was no answer. Her heart began to race faster than usual, so she calmed her nerves and tried again. "Hey Stacy, where are you? I have been..." "Oh, I'm at the door already, you'll see me now, alright."The call ended abruptly, she dropped the phone and disappeared into the bathroom. She filled the tub with cold water and soap, then stepped into the tub and stayed there for a long time. Stacy unlocked the door and entered into the house, clutching some shopping bags. She had gone to the mall after work dismissal, the reason for her returning home late. "Daisy." She called out sweetly, thinking Daisy might be playing hide and seek with her. She didn't get any response from her, so she continued. "Hey Daisy. Come on out, where are you?She went to the kitchen and dropped the heavy bags, then took out the plates of food she got and headed to the room. "Daisy, this isn't funny any more, where are you? I hope you are not playing the hide and seek game with me." She opened the door forcefully, in a bid to catch her in action, but, Daisy wasn't there. She walked close to the bed and picked up Daisy's phone. Looking at it and reasoning, she decided that Daisy was definitely in the bathroom, though she wondered why she didn't respond to her when she called. She opened the door slightly and found Daisy fast asleep in the bathtub. She stared at her for a while and in pity. "She must be really tired." She muttered to herself and walked up to her. "Daisy, sweetheart. Wake up. Hey, are you alright? She asked, tapping Daisy gently.Daisy jerked off from her sleep with a start, looking around in startling gaze. She must have lost her memory for a split second as she could not recognise her environment. "Daisy, you don't look fine, are you good? Stacy asked quite concerned.Getting herself at that point, she responded. "yeah yeah, of course I am fine. Only a little tired I guess." Stacy started walking out of the bathroom. "You don't have a choice than be fine. I got a plate for you, you might have to hurry up." "That's so sweet and you Staciena" Daisy said out loudly. "That's why I love you."Some moments later, Daisy was out of the bathroom on wet towel round her chest, using the edge to dab her face. The towel was a little above her knee, but really long enough. "Gosh, Stacy, it seems you read my mind. I was wondering how I would get something to eat tonight." Daisy said happily. "Actually, I went for a little shopping with a friend, so I got some stuff. So, thanks to that friend." Stacy replied calmly, giggling thereafter.Daisy took the plastic plate with food in it and sat down immediately to savour. "Won't you try putting something on first before you eat?Daisy shrugged and continued eating so fast. "Only those with a filled up stomach worry about such a thing. I'm too hungry to think twice, sorry" She replied.Stacy laughed calmly and decided not to bother her again. They ate quietly for a while, till they were done with the food. Stacy went ahead to dispose the plates and returned to the room. "So, tell me." Stacy continued, in total anticipation and expectancy. "How did first time at work go? Diasy raised her hands up and dropped it lifelessly on the bed. "That is exactly the way it went. What were you expecting? A free trip to the museum on a Ferrari? "Hahaha, that actually hurt, but I'd pass. I intended coming around, but I had my restrictions, so I couldn't risk that." Stacy explained, a little sadly. "What restrictions? Daisy asked, confused and trying to recall if it was part of the contract she had signed. Stacy smiled calmly, then continued. "Well, the thing is, two people from the same house are not allowed to work in SABs. This also implies to couples, that is why dating colleagues is highly prohibited. Although, some tricky ones still hide to do such." "Wow, just getting to know that now. So, how's that..." Daisy paused and realised the implication of what Suzy had opened up to. "Wait up, you mean as roommates, we are not allowed to work in the same company? Stacy nodded but didn't reply verbally. She could imagine what was going on in the mind of Daisy at that instant. "But, you allowed me to go, what if you are caught? You know I can easily give up on this since I only started." "Oh, you still think working with Dash is that easy? Very funny. Like I said, your contract is still due till two months and 30 days. So you don't have a choice to swallow what ever you see, or deal with it." Suzy finished.Daisy lay flat on the bed thinking deeply, then asked. "When you say "deal with it", what do you actually mean? Suzy laughed sarcastically. "Stand up to him. Tell him to his face that he doesn't have the right to treat you the way he wishes. You know, talk to him like you have." She replied, gesturing with her hands. "Has anyone done that before? I mean, stood up to him? Daisy asked curiously. "No one, not a soul sweet sister." She replied, paused a little, then continued. "Well except one person I know, his father. The real Don of SAB company." "Hmmm. That is a tough one really. I'd figure out a way to soften his heart. Maybe he'll change." "No. I wouldn't advice that you do that. Perhaps, you'll change rather. But, whatever you do, try as much to steer clear from his father, that man doesn't have a conscience." Stacy warned seriously. "Okay, I will." Daisy answered, then muttered softly, "I wonder what will make our path cross."It was a really chilly evening, Mrs. Kute, also known as Rachel, hurried home to get the house in order so the wind doesn't affect her kitchen specifically. She had a loose covering at the top and tried to manage it as much as she could till she could take hold on some cash to give it the repairs it desperately needed. "Oh no, not again. Please, give me a little more time and I will get you fixed alright. I know I have promised you that a lot of times, but this time it is special." She mumbled audibly to no one in particular but to the ceiling like it had ears. She placed a chair and climbed on it, so her hands could get to where she wanted. She kept muttering words to herself and hissed lightly. Luckily, she was able to tame it and the wind also subsided a little bit, which made it very much fairer for her. She climbed down slowly and sat on the chair for a while. She complained to no one, soliloquizing. "How can I do this alone. I am really tired of all t
Daisy returned home late in the afternoon feeling so tired and used up. She dumped her bag on the cushion and slumped there for a while, being sad for herself. She had just returned from a job hunt and it was obvious that it didn't go well. She was angry at herself for overreacting or acting up, when she would have been as quiet as a dove, which she really was. She thought. "I mean, how would I have known that the little man who was hopping up and down and showing himself off, how would I have known he was the interviewer. They don't behave so silly as he did. It's not my fault, yes, it's not my fault. I only told him the truth about himself, he should be grateful." She said to herself, in a way not to feel guilty for spoiling her interview by herself. She tried to cheer herself up by telling herself that, the man was only being rude, while she, on the other hand was being honest and straight forward, which was a good value every company should look out for in an employee.
Daisy noticed that her phone had stopped playing the music she assigned it to. She frowned, wondering what put a stop to it.She kept the fork she was using to eat on the plate, got up and headed to the room where her phone was. By this time, she could hear her phone ringing. "Who dares disturb my peace this early afternoon." She said, in a loud voice. As she left the kitchen to the room to go check out the caller, she heard the doorbell ring. "Oh damn it." She whispers, under her breath and moves to the sitting room instead. "Hold on, hold on. I'll be right there. Please, the bell is just too loud, can you stop!" She yelled, hoping whoever was at the door would listen, but the reverse was the case. She got to the door, unlocked it forcefully and yanked it open. "Ohh! Stacy." She said excitedly, now reducing her voice and acting so gentle. Stacy walks past me into the sitting room and sits down. "Seriously, are you deaf now? Geez, like I literally sta
Daisy woke up that morning feeling excited and more relaxed than she was the previous day. She had the feeling that she was going to get this job and she has never felt this way before. She had to remind herself that she was only going to submit her job application letter and get information on when she would return for the interview, so she doesn't get disappointed if something bad happens, though she doesn't pray for that to. Stacy on the other hand left quite earlier than Daisy, as that was what her job warranted her to do daily. She wished her friend a successful job application and promised to give her a treat if she eventually gets the job as a means to support her. At exactly 8 o'clock that Wednesday morning, Daisy took her bag with her file containing all the necessary documents and dashed out of the house to start her day with another job hunt. The company was about twenty minutes drive from her house, so she waited to get a good can that she could use
Daisy took the bold steps to walk into that office, as she could feel her legs trembling underneath her. It took a lot of energy to push the door open and she wondered why the door was that hard, perhaps, that was just her being nervous and anxious. She shivered as her first foot stepped into the office. Some part of her in a big way, wanted to turn around and run away as fast as she could and damn the consequences, forget about the pay, forget about the job, forget about the sweet rates. She had never felt this way before. She felt that it got scarier, the closer she went. The other part of her waved it off and convinced herself that the fear was only based on the rumour she might have heard in the past and not based on reality. She had to remind herself what she stood to have as a secretary of the CEO and what she could achieve with the title alone. So, with boldness, she walked into that office, shoulders raised up in utmost courage, face focused and ready to tear down any quest
It was noon, the weather was a bit cool as compared to the previous day. Daisy decided to go for shopping with the money she received from the SABS company. It took her aback as she wasn't expecting anything until two weeks time, seems this was her dream job after all, or so she thought. Although, she had goosebumps each time she recalled her encounter with the CEO, Mr. Dash. The awkward silence that always enveloped every vicinity he entered or he stayed in. She knew something was definitely wrong and she hoped she'd be able to adapt to whatever condition she found herself in, in the future, while working with him. She had heard a lot of bad remarks from Stacy, even before she considered finding a job in the company. She never heard a single story about him that had happy endings. Still, at that point, she had no choice than to accept whatever came her way.She was $1,000 rich today, which used to be more than three months of her swear or even more. She'd gotten that in only o
She stood In front of the company and said a little prayer. The previous day, she was so bold and courageous, walking into the company like she had an affiliation with them. This morning, she felt like she had the whole world on her shoulders and she needed to carry it without faltering.Today would mark the beginning of her luxury or sufferings or whatever it may be. She couldn't tell what she'd encounter when she got there, but she was ready to face the little she had prepared for. Or so she thought. It was few minutes to the stipulated time that was agreed that she resumed work. So, she walked into the building, heads high, ready to conquer. As soon as she got to the office, which would be hers, starting that day, she saw a file on the table that contained a list of some daily activities that she needed to work on. She reported for work online and sat down comfortably on the chair, her chair. It was like a dream come true for her. The room was perfectly furnished. It had w
