“You’re the guy from the dinner” Jason said as he turned to look at the voice. The man stood smiling, everything about his aura screaming superiority.
“You have a good memory Mr. Graham, but I’m sorry, you can’t get into that room”
“Look, I am grateful that you pulled my wife from that pool, but don’t think you can come here pulling this kind of stunt. This hospital and room is owned by the greys, just because you helped my wife doesn’t mean I would give you money. She didn’t need your help”
The man smirked as he moved closer to Jason, locking their gazes. He could sense Jason shrinking and he laughed. “You really don’t deserve Elena”
“What do you mean? Look just because...”
He raised his hand cutting him off. “Trusting this woman instead of your wife, such a filial husband you are” he said sarcastically. Jason provoked by his words was about to speak when the man cut him off again.
“I’m not here to take money from you. I’m actually here to see your wife. The woman you’re married to and supposed to be with. I don’t know if you remember her”
“What are you talking about? Elena is in this hospital?” he asked concern in his eyes. He quickly masked it as he thought to himself. ‘She’s probably pretending. Such a vile woman’
“Yes” he nodded. Pointing towards the door he added. “In that very room”
“Impossible, that room was reserved by the greys, Elena has no relationship with them”
“Really?” the man asked walking towards the door.
“Welcome Mr. Grey” the guards said in unison.
Jason’s eyes widened as he stared at Mr. Grey, whose eyes showed a mocking glint. He held the door about to go in when Jason called out to him, his eyes now filled with something else.
“If that’s Elena’s room then that’s better, she can give it up to Katie. It’s only right”
“She doesn’t have to. And I told you Mr. Graham, there were cameras there”
“This is between Elena and I, she will listen to me, and she always does. Let me into the room, or would you deprive a husband and son from seeing their wife and mother?” he asked mockingly
Mr. Grey stared at them, his eyes still filled with the air of authority as he smiled at them. “Of course not. You can come in, but this remains my room. It is not up to you to decide.
I watched as the man who was supposed to be with my husband wheel in his secretary behind mr. grey, with Ethan following like an obedient puppy. They stood at the end of the room, not even coming close to me or checking on me. Jason looked at Ethan and Ethan getting the message ran to me and held on to my hand.
“Mum, you haven’t apologized to Aunty Katie. How about you give her this room, it’s really nice and would make her more comfortable” my heart ached as I looked at my son, the boy who used to adore me, who would run to me in the night afraid because he had a bad dream. I watched as he held onto me, pleading for my husband’s secretary.
On cue, Jason took in a breath before speaking. “That’s right Elena. Give up the room as an apology. You were really being unreasonable. I’ve told you before, there’s nothing going on between me and Katie. The only relationship we share is boss and employee.
I laughed. I was getting tired of their behavior. “Do you really think I would do this? Why didn’t you check the surveillance footage then?”
“Don’t be unreasonable”
“Yes Mrs. Graham. I wouldn’t lie about something like this. I know you despise me but you can’t do something like that over a misunderstanding”
“a misunderstanding?” I echoed. “Whatever you came to achieve, forget it. I wouldn’t apologize to Katie and I wouldn’t give up the room”
A low chuckle from the side of the room drew our attention. It was Mr. Grey, standing and watching everything with his arms crossed. Jason shot him a wicked glare before turning to me, rushing towards me he held my arm and pulled me out of the bed his fingers digging into my skin. I felt myself fall to the ground, my weak body unable to fight back. Mr. Grey rushed towards me, pushing Jason off me he helped me up.
“You should be ashamed of yourself. She is your wife”
“Exactly Mr. Grey. My wife. I know you’re a big shot but you can’t interfere in family matters”
“Is this how you treat your family?” he looked at me, trying to get my permission for something. I nodded, pressing myself against him for support. He called out his security and gestured for them to throw them out. I turned my face away as Jason and Ethan struggled, trying to get away from their grip.
“I hope you don’t regret this Elena. You can’t rely on Mr. Grey forever”
They guards escorted them out and Mr. Grey helped me to the bed. Something about his tenderness gave me a sense of security, there was something familiar about him but I wasn’t ready to question it.
“Thank you again Mr. Grey”
“Don’t mention it. You can call me Lucas” he said, smiling warmly at me. “I have somewhere to be, but I would instruct my guards to keep you safe” he smiled again. I nodded grateful that I could rest my head fo a while.
Outside, Lucas grey walked towards his car, with henry his assistant following behind him. “I want to know everything about Jason graham and what happened to Elena since the past ten years”
“Yes sir” his henry nodded as he got into the driver’s seat.
“Elena Monroe, what happened since you married Jason” he whispered as his henry drove off.
“I can’t believe Mrs. Graham could do this, and to Ethan too”
“I also don’t know what’s gotten into her”
“Yes daddy, she’s being a bad mummy. She let them hurt me” Ethan sulked as he showed off his red arms. Jason patted his head as Katie inspected his arms, anyone coming to see them would think they were one big happy family.
“She must really despise me to do this” she widened her eyes as if just realizing something. “Do you think she’s having an affair with Mr. Grey?” she asked as she looked up at him
“Elena wouldn’t do that, she loves me too much”
“But they seemed pretty close. Mr. Grey is rumored to be a reserved person and he never associates with women, but he jumped into the water to save Mrs. Graham”
“How dare she, and she’s been questioning our relationship?”
“I guess she was just scared that you would find out”
Jason’s hands balled into a fist, his eyes bloodshot, he pulled out his phone about to dial when Katie stopped him. “We could be wrong Mr. Graham”
“You’re right” he said his eyes softening. “Katie has loved me for so long, she would never do this too me, she’s too scared to divorce me. Yes” he nodded, trying to convince himself.
I sat up, feeling guilty for throwing them out like that. I knew they deserved it but they were still my family, I could feel my heart ache as I remembered the way they pulled Ethan. I got up, I knew I had to make this right, I needed to find out if Ethan was okay. I informed Mr. Grey’s security about my intention and declined their offer to follow me. I went to the reception and found where Katie’s room was and walked towards it. I was about to open the door when I heard my sons voice.
“Aunty Katie, would you be my mummy” Ethan’s small voice asked, ripping my heart out.
“Ethan I would love to be your second mummy”
“No, I want you to be my mummy. The three of us look more like a family than with my mummy. So can I call you mummy?”
“Of course” Katie said happily as she lifted him to her lap.
I felt the tears roll down my cheeks as I waited for Jason to say something, he just laughed. How could he find this funny? Our son was trying to replace me.
“Don’t let your mother hear you, she would be very hurt” Jason finally spoke and I felt a little bit of relief.
“I don’t care. My mummy is a bad mummy. I don’t want her to be my mummy anymore, I want Aunty Katie” he retorted, snuggling closer to Katie like a nestling chick.
I felt my chest tightened as a fresh stream of tears poured. I couldn’t believe my ears, my own son, I staggered backwards. I felt myself break with every step as the room began to spin. I walked away from the door, not wanting to listen anymore, wiping my tears I felt myself begin to crumble to the ground when a pair of hands held me.
“Are you okay miss?” a small voice asked. I faced him, he was a young boy, he looked about ten years old and he was staring at her concerned. He gave her a pitiful smile as he let go of her.
“I see you’ve met my son” a familiar voice said.
I felt the hot pang of tears as we passed the gate. This was going to be the final tear I shared for the Grahams, I vowed silently as I wiped my tears, Lucas seemed to notice this and handed me his handkerchief.“thank you” I said as I gave him a weak smile.Wiping my face I could smell the faint presence of his scent on it, somehow it made me feel safe and I caught myself sniffing it. A low chuckle surprised me and I frowned as I turned and saw lucas watching me and laughing.“if you like it that much, you'd love the real thing” he said as he came closer, tilting his head enough and putting his neck closer for me to sniff.I turned red with embarrassment as I shook my hands. “n-no need, you misunderstand me”“come on now, don’t be shy” he said as he came closer, this time positioning his neck just below my nose. The veins on his neck popped as he swallowed.I pulled away and faced the window, trying to hide the embarrassment on my face. “where are we going?” I finally gathered t
“I always knew you were a jinx” Olivia graham, my mother-in-law continues. My once teary expression slowly turned to bitterness as I saw them at the door. She stood with my father-in-law, Noah graham and watching them with that familiar scowl brought me unpleasant memories. Jason’s parents never approved of our marriage, they always felt he was too good for me. They had bullied me for the ten years of my marriage with Jason and it was only during my pregnancy with Ethan that they gave me a little face. They still bullied me with snide remarks and would always say that they wished Ethan didn’t end up like mw. They had gotten their wish, he was more of Jason, the exact replica. When I gave birth to Ethan, the bullying began again, worse than before, and Olivia would sometimes try to prevent, me from coming close to Ethan. Before he would step in to defend me, sending his parents away and gently wiping my tears, but when Katie came all of that changed. He often joined them to bully me, c
Lucas grey walked towards me and placed his hands on the shoulders of the boy in front of me.“Your son?” I asked confused. Lucas grey was never rumored to have a son. I stared between the two of them, they did share a little resemblance, but it wasn’t striking enough to be noticed at first glance.“He’s actually my brother’s son” he explained. “I adopted him after my brother and his wife’s death”That made more sense. Gerald grey, Lucas older brother and his wife died in a car accident six years ago, but no one knew anything about their son, Jake grey. Everyone thought he had died with his parents but his body was never found.“We try to keep jakes existence a secret because we suspect that his parents where actually murdered. We’re still working on finding more about the accident”I nodded, I didn’t know why he trusted me enough to tell me this and I didn’t care, all I wanted right now was to leave the hospital. I had had enough, this was the last time, I would fall victim to my fam

“I’m telling you, divorce Jason” I watched her mischievous smile turn serious as she stared me down. I smiled, deciding to finally play into her games, curious to see what else she had in store for me.“Didn’t you say he was now yours? Why not tell him to divorce me instead? Or are you scared he doesn’t love you? Tell him to divorce me and I would sign the divorce papers. And Ethan? Jason can have custody of him. What? You aren’t confident in his love?” I asked mockingly as I sipped my wine. This infuriated her more. “You think they still love you? If both of us fell into the water who do you think they would safe first?” with that she got closer and whispered. “Let’s find out who they love more. Let’s test it out”Before I could react she grabbed my arm again and threw me into the pull with her. I couldn’t swim and called out desperately for Jason, I could see Katie smile as she saw me. My vision began to blur and I watched as Jason jumped into the pool. He swam toward Katie and I s
“You don’t need to come. I know you don’t like these dinners” Jason Graham, my ever loving husband said over the phone“That’s alright. I already said I would accompany you”The other line went silent for a while before he finally spoke. “I would pick you and Ethan later”“No need” I said“Don’t be difficult Elena. I would pick you up”Without waiting for her response he disconnected the call. He had begged her before to come with him to the dinner, and when she didn’t comply he gave her the cold shoulder. Now because he wanted Katie by his side, he pretended to care. Ever since Katie became his secretary he had adored her and neglected me. He would often buy her gifts and run to her every time she called. He would often try explaining to me.‘Katie has been the best employee and I am just rewarding her’ he would say. At first I believed him and would often praise him for being such a good boss. But then I noticed the mistakes and I read the messages. Katie wasn’t one of the best empl
