Chapter Five

My eyes met hers and I felt a magnetic pull drawing me to her. Her eyes held a lot of emotions, I could feel the fear and pain in her eyes. I scrutinized her appearance and my face hardened seeing her looking so malnourished, her face paled and her lips looking so dry. Before I could say a word Clifford and his Luna came to me and the other alphas present quickly stood up in fear.

"Jayden! Jayden!” I called him as he was being extremely calm. He hated being touch by a lady so why wasn’t he aggressive rather I felt a weird emotion from him which I had never felt before. Jayden silence wasn’t sitting well with me not until an intoxicating sweet vanilla smell hit my nose. Jayden was about growling out mate but I was quick to stop him knowing how dangerous it would be for everyone to know she was my mate.

Clifford and his Luna immediately came forward slapped my mate then made her kneel before me. I felt agitated seeing her pitiful face and I was totally losing control. Ethan on seeing this knew something was up and immediately ask my mate to stand up and leave. She didn’t wait to be told twice as she quickly stood up and walk as fast as her legs could take her.

I couldn’t bear to be seated as my mind was focused on my mate. I couldn’t claim her because of the rogue issues.

“Alex, there is something wrong with our mate” Jayden finally spoke after being quiet

“What is wrong with our mate?” Jayden suddenly went quiet again then spoke after a while.

“I think our mate wolf is domicile. I can only sense her faintly like she is afraid to be seen” I could feel my wolf sadness and desire to protect his mate.

The party was finally over and I was taken to the room prepared for me to stay. Seated on the bed my mind remained fixed on my mate, I wish I could go to her but I knew it was best to keep my distance as the rogue issue was yet to be solved. Her frail look flashed before my eyes. The pain in her eyes from being maltreated arose the instinct in me to kill everyone that has ever laid a finger on her. I dug my fingers in my palm trying to calm down not minding the blood flowing from my hand.

I felt Ethan and Michael gaze on me as they have been silently watching my every move trying to understand what was going on as this was the first time I had paid attention to any female. They knew how much I despise being close to any female and how my wolf Jayden get aggressive from any slightest touch from females. I knew I had to tell Ethan whose wolf Aiden was one of the strongest while Michael’s wolf Thane was the strategic thinker.

“She is my mate” The words echoed in the room breaking the silence that lingers as Ethan and Michael looked at each other in surprise.

“What do you plan on doing now that our Luna has been found?” Ethan asked wanting to know if we are to abort the mission and take my mate the hell out of here.

“ Nothing has changed Ethan, we stay focused on our original plan” I said in a domineering voice though tempted to take my mate and leave but I can’t as abandoning the mission would put my pack at risk.

“No one must know she is my mate” I said though Jayden felt pained but he understood that this was the best way to keep our mate safe.

Ethan and Michael weren’t happy that their Luna won’t be recognized but they understood the situation and knew those rogues need to be caught as soon as possible. They both left having their mind fixed on one goal which was catching the rogues.

In the darkness of the night my eyes flew wide open hearing the light footsteps of someone walking towards me. He aimed at me with dagger in his hand and charge at me but I was quick to respond. Kicked him to the ground and slit his throat with my claws leaving him lifeless on the floor.

Ethan and Michael came in on hearing the sound their claws where out as they charged into my room. Shocked to see a lifeless body on the floor they looked at me to confirm I was okay something they always do forgetting the fact that I am their alpha. I knew they loved me more like a brother than just their alpha. I nodded confirming I was okay and signal them to check on the assassin.

Ethan opened the assassin’s shirt and we saw a familiar tattoo imprinted in his chest. This was the same tattoo that we have seen from the rogues that had killed two members of the pack. My eyes caught a glimpse of a white paper in his mouth which he must have plan to swallow to hide it. I stretched out my hand to pull out the piece of paper from his mouth when daggers flew in but we were quick enough to dodge them.

They looked at me that I was fine then immediately charged towards where the dagger was thrown. I was about to open the piece of paper when a man in mask charged towards me. We fought and I noticed there was something strange about him. Though I could tell he was a werewolf but he used a strange magic which was known only to the witches. I finally pinned him down

“Who are you and who do you work for?” I demanded having my claws ready to slit his throat

“That you would only know after your death” he said as he mysteriously disappeared from my hold only to see him behind me as he charged towards me. I was quick to dodge and was able to pull his mask off his face but he was quick to respond as he immediately use his hand to cover his face blowing powder into my eyes and before I could open my eyes he was nowhere to be found.
