Aegis's POV.

We got to the royal pack in record time. The entire ride was filled with silence and tension.

I didn’t even have time to catch my breath when we got back to the palace. Without sparing me a glance, he walked in the direction of the meeting hall. I followed obediently. The hall smelled the same, but multiplied by a hundred degrees. The Royal Beta, Jaxon, stood tall as always by the door. With a small nod, the King handed him the necklaces in his hands.

“Distribute these to the Alphas,” he said. “Instruct them that no one should remove them for any reason.”

Jaxon nodded quickly and left. I could feel the tension in him as he walked. Everyone knew the weight of those necklaces.

Everyone was waiting for us inside the hall. They rose on seeing the King, and the inner circle meeting started soon after. Alexander Duville didn’t even try to hide it—he was clearly antagonizing me.

Heat choked my throat. My hands clenched on the table.

Aegis's POV “Someone better start talking right now. What do you mean you’re in love with me?”Noah had lost his mind. That was the only sensible explanation of what I had just heard. We stood a few steps apart in the corridor outside my room. I slammed the switch closest to me, and the lights on the wall flickered on, throwing shadows. He would not look at me. His hands were tight at his sides, like he was holding himself still.I laughed sharply.“Tell me you’re joking,” I exclaimed. “You’re my Beta.”He finally looked at me then. His jaw was tight, and his eyes did not soften.“I mean it,” he said.I shook my head and took a step back without thinking. My heel hit the stone wall behind me. There was nowhere else to go.“No,” I said. “You don’t feel that way. You can’t.”“I do,” he said again. My chest felt tight. I crossed my arms, not to protect myself from him, but to keep my hands from shaking.“This is just confusion,” I said. “We’ve been through too much together, and you’re

  • THE REVENGE OF THE DEAD LUNA   Chapter Sixty Eight

Aegis's POV Somehow the portal opened right in front of my pack gates, and the guards froze. The guards barely had time to bow before I passed them. Someone called my name. I didn’t answer. My legs kept moving like they knew the way better than I did. I broke into a run and didn’t slow down until the pack gates were behind me. Home smelled the same—the pines and palm fruits and the smoke of last night’s barbecue. It should have helped, but it didn’t.I cut across the yard and headed straight for the main house. My hands shook when I pushed the door open. I hated that. I hated how my body kept reacting before my brain could catch up. The creature in my mind wouldn’t stop growling. It was like my insides were on fire.It was all too much.I headed straight to my room and shut the door. I switched off the lamp and closed the curtains. Crumpling onto the floor, I stared at the wall.Time passed. I thought. But I wasn’t sure how much.My thoughts ran in circles of the same unhelpful quest

  • THE REVENGE OF THE DEAD LUNA   Chapter Sixty Seven

Aegis's POV I stood there and watched him walk away. The worst part was that he didn’t look back. Not even once. His steps were steady, like he wasn’t carrying the weight of everything I was carrying. Like his world still made sense. I asked him to leave, and he left without looking back.My hands clenched at my sides. I opened and closed them, trying to calm the shaking. My chest felt tight, like someone had wrapped rope around it and pulled. How was that man my mate? The word felt wrong in my head. Behind me, fire cracked.“You know he loves you,” the God advised.I spun around so fast my hair slapped my face.I glared at him, letting my fury show on my face, like if I stared enough, he might disappear.I didn’t say anything.I didn’t trust my mouth yet.He stood there like always, tall and calm, fire rolling slow around his shoulders. It didn’t burn the floor. It never did. It just existed, like it belonged there.I turned away from him and took three steps, then stopped.“I don’t

King Damien's POVI had faced armies without blinking. But the thing standing in front of me made my chest forget how to work. She was huge. Bigger than any creature I had ever seen. Her bright silver scales caught the firelight that surrounded the God standing beside me. Her wings swayed at her sides, shaking slightly, as if they did not yet know where to rest. Smoke slipped from her nose every time she breathed.Aegis.My Aegis.A dragon.I stood still because I did not trust my legs. My wolf had gone quiet in a way that scared me.She’s mine.“I’ve only ever heard of dragons in stories,” I said, my voice rough with awe.The God stood beside me, calm as ever. Fire curled lazily around his shoulders. He did not look surprised. He never did.“Same here,” he said. “This is the first time I’m seeing one.”I stared at him. “You’re saying they were never real.”“They were not,” he replied. My eyes went back to her. Then what was this? What are the fates up to?Aegis shifted her weight. He

Aegis's POVI couldn’t sit still.I paced the room from wall to wall, barefoot. The stone floor felt warm under my feet.“You’re going to wear a path into the floor,” the king mumbled, sitting on the edge of the bed, elbows resting on his knees, watching me like he had been doing all day.“I’m fine,” I said.“You’ve been saying that for the past twenty hours,” he replied. “And you haven’t stopped moving once.”I crossed my arms and stopped for exactly two seconds before starting again.“Come sleep, Aegis,” he said. “You’ve been panicking all day.”“I am not panicking.”“You are pacing like you’re being chased.”“I don’t want to sleep.”He leaned back on his hands. “You’re exhausted.”“That doesn’t mean I should
