Chapter 11

Chapter 11: His Painful Conclusion

Calgary and I took the trail leading to Zenios. We were pretty much silent the whole trip, but when we were nearing the cemetery and we had a vision of the man who used to beat me up almost every single day, Calgary noticed that I began to feel uncomfortable.

"Are you sure you wanna talk to him? I heard he wasn't nice to you," he asked.

I swallowed the pool of saliva in my mouth when I sensed the underlying concern in his tone. That was new, and I shouldn't have been affected by it, but Auror felt happy that Calgary wasn't that rude to me anymore.

"Yeah. I'm familiar with his ruthless side. It's not like I'd hide behind you if he'd throw me a deadly gaze." I inhaled a deep breath down into my stomach. "Let's just go."

Calgary led the way until we reached Alpha Lawrence. He was sitting in front of my Mom's tomb, staring at the withered flowers lying on her grave while he was holding a half-way done bottle of whiskey. He didn't even bother looking at us, as if he already knew why we were coming to see him.

I cleared my throat. "H--Have you eaten?" I asked.

Alpha Lawrence jug the bottle of liquor in his hand then wiped the stain of whiskey on his lips. "I'm not a baby who still needs to be reminded to eat on time."

His cold behavior made me grit my teeth, but I tried my best to calm my nerves down. "No one is here with you. Nobody prepares your meal--"

"Why do you even care?" His cold rims narrowed at me. "Aren't you happy yet? You're out of here. I can't beat your ass anymore."

My fists clenched on my sides. "I came here only because I know Mom would never want you to starve to death. It's not like I still give a damn about you? You're right. I'm happy that you're no longer my Alpha, but my conscience would never let me sleep at night knowing that the man my mother loved so much is here right now, right in front of her grave, taking in nothing but burning liquor."

God, I didn't plan to cry. I swear, I didn't want to be so emotional, but my tear ducts malfunctioned at the worst possible time.

Calgary inhaled deeply. "I can send some of my Deltas to guard the cemetery while you're with us. You don't have to stay in Claivan for good. You can just come by to eat, shower, and sleep." He offered his hand to Alpha Lawrence. "Come on, mate. We used to be friends."

I stared at Calgary, totally surprised. I didn't know that? What I knew was Alpha Lawrence is ten years older than Calgary and Alpha Quira. I didn't know they used to be friends.

Alpha Lawrence flashed a bitter smirk. "Yeah. Before you chose to betray me, remember?"

I saw how Calgary's jaw clenched. "For the last time, I never lied to you just because I wasn't a real friend."

"You still fucking did!" Alpha Lawrence stood up. "If only you told me where she went, this stupid girl wouldn't have even been born in the first place!"

His words cut deeply through my heart. I knew how much he was blaming me why he didn't end up with my mother, but it wasn't my choice to be born. It wasn't my choice to be his true mate's daughter.

"And if I told you the truth, what would've happened, hmm? Guess what? Nimpha would have had to watch you get killed right before her eyes for breaking the rules of Nirvana. You think she could handle that?" Calgary held Alpha Lawrence by his shirt. "I fucking did you a favor so stop blaming me and everybody else."

He pushed Alpha Lawrence before he grabbed me by my arm and dragged me back to the trail. I looked back and saw Alpha Lawrence cry his heart out while he was hugging my mother's tombstone. It was too painful to watch that as soon as tears began to cloud my eyes, I turned my gaze away from him before I doubled my steps.

Calgary didn't speak and so was I until we reached his house. We both sat on the couch and stared blankly on the wall for a few moments. He then cleared his throat and finally spoke.

"He's a hopeless case. He'll never move on from your mother's death."

I swallowed the lump forming in my throat as pain struck my heart. "As long as I'm breathing, he never will."

"It's not your fault. Even if you will die right in front of Lawrence, his heart will never stop bleeding for his mate." He rested his back on the couch as he let out a sharp sigh. "I can't blame him. They were inseparable back in the days, and your mother was the strongest she-wolf during her time, that's why the news about her losing the fight was a huge shock to almost everyone."

I looked at him. "Do you think Alpha's Luna cheated?"

"Don't think so." His jaw moved as he stared into my eyes. "I have a wild guess, but if I'm right, then that means Lawrence had lost so much more."

My brows furrowed. "Why? What do you think happened on the night of the selection during Mom's time?"

His Adam's apple moved up and down before he breathed out one hell of a heavy breath, as if his own conclusion suffocated his chest. He then rubbed his palm on his face then met my eyes once more, and when I heard his answer, my heart almost stopped from beating.

"There's a possibility that your mother didn't have enough strength to win the fight for the Luna position... because she was already pregnant with you, Nadine. That means there's a chance that you are actually Lawrence's child."

I stared at him for seconds, unable to process his conclusion. When it finally began to sink in to me, I let out an awkward laugh as I stood up.

"Now, you're being ridiculous. How could that heartless man be my real father? My mother kept on reminding me before that I was a product of love."

His expression softened. "If Nimpha told you that, then that means I could be right."

My fists clenched as I started to get irritated with him. "Okay? How so?"

Calgary sighed. "Because Nimpha only loved one man, and that's Lawrence..."

That’s why her mom gave her the locket it’s because she was already pregnant. An alpha female child. Ohh this is good ...
