They managed to catch up to me and my Beta as we made our way to the doctor's office for my appointment.
Today's appointment was far from the usual checkups I'd come for monthly.
I had come with a sole purpose; donate my sperm and leave the doctors to find a suitable surrogate that would carry my child.
It was quite simple and I expected results in a week.
“Alpha, good morning.” A lady wearing a white doctor's coat greeted us as we reached the hallway. “Dr. Gerald is expecting you to please come with me.”
Wordlessly, I followed her, my nerves starting to kick in which was laughable considering my reputation as a ruthless and rigid, stone cold ruler.
My nerves were acting up because of how important this was to me.
Having a family has always been no 1 on my list of priorities. Sure having a wife would have been the fastest route to take considering how desperate I was to father a child.
The gender was of no consequence to me although having a son meant I had an heir but I didn't give a fuck about all that.
“Alpha Dante, it's lovely to see you again,” Dr. Gerald was waiting for us at his doorstep when we got there. “Thank you Helen, I'll take it from here. Come in Alpha,”
He swiftly dismissed everyone else except my beta of course as both of us followed him into his office.
I sveuxhed up my nose as I took in the size. It was quite small in my opinion and too degrading for a reputable hospital such as this one.
“Alpha, after our conversation yesterday I've made all the necessary preparations and we can go to the lab when you're ready.”
“In a minute,” I shook my head as my tone took on a slight edge. “I don't want just anyone as my surrogate because I'm not that desperate.”
He nodded rather too quickly and I narrowed my eyes. “Of course Alpha, only the best for you and nothing else.”
Even though I didn't trust his response, I decided to let it slide.
“If you're ready Alpha, let's proceed to the lab,”
I rose to my feet at the same time he rounded the table and met me by the door.
He reached out and held the door open for me, his actions nothing short of ass kissing and I rolled my eyes.
The sooner we got the samples taken, the better before I went off on him.

Selene's POV “Please have good news for me,” I muttered a silent prayer up to heaven as I got down from my car.The hospital parking lot was quite scanty which was rather strange but I wasn't bothered by it, all my thoughts centered on the outcome of the IVF procedure.
I wanted to be a mother so bad I could taste it but I had been trying for years with no luck.
If this IVF procedure failed, it was back to square one for me because I had poured all my savings into this.
That's why as I walked into the hospital and made my way to the reception, I kept praying for good news.
“Good evening, please I'm here to see Dr. Gerald,” I told the receptionist, skipping the usual pleasantries.
She nodded and checked the records. “Dr. Gerald will see you in a few minutes. Please have your seat,”
Five painful minutes of waiting passed and Dr. Gerald showed up.
“Please come up with me, Selene.”
I followed him, muttering a prayer all the way to his office.
“Have a seat.” He went round the table and sat down in his chair as well. “How are you feeling today?*
“Anxious,” I responded as I let out a forced laugh. “What's the result Doc?” I was practically sitting on pins and needles waiting for him to tell me my fate.
For years I had been trying to get pregnant with my husband and with this one result, I could finally be a mom and make my husband a father.
“I'm pleased to tell you that the process was successful and you're pregnant.”
Joy, pure undiluted joy hit me and I found myself beaming loudly.
Even though I had been praying for the results to be positive, I had also been preparing myself to accept the negatives too.
“Thank you so much, this is such wonderful news.”
He nodded and started reading a few important things out that I needed to note following the course of my pregnancy.
I was excited but I tampered it down and forced myself to seep in as much of what he was saying as I could.
“Remember to register for regular checkups so we can monitor the pregnancy and spot any complications early enough before it becomes a problem.”
My head kept hobbling up and down as I nodded in response to everything he was saying.
After he was done, he stood up and I got up as well, meeting him halfway.
He held his hand out but I ignored it and hugged him instead, my eyes filling up with unshed tears.
He stiffened at first, my actions completely unexpected but eventually he wrapped a large hand around me and patted my back soothingly.
“Thank you so much Doctor, you don't know how long I've dreamed of this day.”
“It's no problem Mrs. Hunter, I was just doing my job.” he pulled away and gestures towards the door. “Let me see you off. I'm sure you can't wait to share this wonderful news with your husband.”
I walked with him and listened as he listened out a couple of multivitamins I had to get for the pregnancy.
“Alpha Dante?” Dr. Gerald paused at his office door and stared at a man who was standing there.
I recognized him instantly. Everyone knew who he was because his name was renowned.
I could feel a sharp gaze on me and looked up to find him staring intently at me.
My hands went up to my face and I touched every angle wanting to know if there was something there.
Or else why would he be staring at me so intently?
“Do you know Alpha Dante, Mrs Hunter?”
“No,” I was too quick to respond.
“No,” he answered, speaking for the first time. “I just thought she seemed familiar.”
“I'll just excuse you,” I said, grateful for a chance to escape.
Dante’s povIt didn't take long before I was standing before them. My pack.I limped to the front, refusing the arm one of my betas offered. Pain screamed through my body, but I stood tall anyway. An Alpha didn’t show weakness, not when eyes like these needed something stronger to cling to.I scanned the crowd, my throat tight. So many faces missing. So many eyes red with grief.I forced myself to speak. “We fought. We bled. We survived.”The murmur rippled through them, soft but steady.I let out a breath. “Rowan is gone. His pack scattered. The traitors among us…” My eyes cut toward the corner where several elders knelt in chains, their heads bowed. “They will pay. They thought they could weaken us from within, that they could gamble with our lives. They were wrong.”One of them lifted his head, sneering. “You think locking us away will change anything? You’re young, Dante. Hot-blooded. The council has guided this pack for generations…”“Enough!”I stepped closer, my claws itching
Dante’s povI dragged my boots through the drying mud, standing at the border of pack territory. My body hurt in every way it knew how to, muscles shredded and screaming, a cracked rib or two, and the bond with Selene still humming, thank gods she wasn’t dead. But the moment I entered the packhouse I noticed a burn of energy. I looked ahead to see Axel standing in the center of the courtyard, with his arms crossed. His eyes burning red. A few of the elders who I knew had gone against me, stood beside him. Their expressions were hard to read.I froze. “This has to be a joke.”He smiled. “I’m not. You’re weak, Dante. And I won’t let you lead this pack into chaos any longer,” he spat over his shoulder… no doubt loud enough for a dead Rowan to hear.“You think this is what I wanted?” I sighed.“You a weak just like your father. You are nothing. And I will make sure that you regret everything you’ve done in this pack.“You choose this minute?” I said, shaking my head. “After we’ve been su
Dante’s povThe world smelled of iron and smoke as wolves around me clashed and clawed themselves to the ground. Blood streamed down my chest from a gash as I didn’t care.I looked ahead and saw rowan there as I knew this fight was going to be a hard one.He was bigger than I remembered, his wolf a hulking brute, scarred muzzle foaming red. He bared his teeth.“Dante!” His voice thundered across the clash. “This ends tonight!”I snarled, circling him. “You should’ve stayed in your grave, Rowan. You’ve already lost.”He laughed, low and guttural. “Your pack’s bleeding. Your walls are falling. And your Luna…”I was on him before he could complete it, my claws scoring furrows across his face as I batted the wolf away."Cowards like you," I snarled, teeth nipping an inch from his throat, "don't get to say her name." He howled. “You can’t win, Dante!” “I already have!”I drove him into the mud, pushing against his back, until he buckled and his eyes widened in fear. “Wait…”Too late. My
Dante’s povThe first sound was the bell. Low, heavy, and ugly. It didn’t ring unless death was walking in.I woke up with a start from bed, my heart slamming into my ribs, as Selene woke up too, with her hair a mess and her eyes wide open.“Dante… what is that?”“The war bell.” My voice was rough, already moving, already pulling on clothes. Her face drained of color. “No. Not now…”I grabbed her shoulders, forcing her eyes on me. “Listen to me. You stay here. Do not leave this room. No matter what you hear. Do you understand?”She shook her head, tears filling fast. “Dante, don’t…”I cut her off with a sharp kiss, tasting her fear. “We’ll win. But I need you safe. Promise me.”She swallowed hard. “I promise.”I tore myself away, every step a war between instinct and duty. As I rushed through the Hallway, the bells roared even louder. By the time I got to the courtyard, the air was already filled with screams and the savage house of wolves ripping through the midnight.“Form ranks!”
Dante’s povI had another matter to attend to. The housekeepers stood by the living room, glancing at me as if anticipating instructions. I coughed, tugged my collar and eventually uttered, “I’d like a dinner tonight. I mean… not mere food on the table. A proper dinner. A romantic one. Candles and flowers… and all that.”One of them, Lira, the boldest, arched a brow. “Romantic? For the Luna?”“Yes. For the Luna,” I snapped, then sighed and softened my voice. “She’s been through enough. I want her to feel . . . seen. Safe. Like she belongs.”The younger maid clapped her hands together. “We can set the balcony, Alpha. Lights strung along the railing. Red roses. Maybe even music?”“Do it,” I said. They scattered like birds, whispering among themselves. I could see them carrying trays of fruits and flowers and candles. The clinking of crystal and silver; the sound of fabric being dragged on carpeted floors… all were rolled into a low storm of busyness.I moved around, much like a restles
Dante’s povSelene touched her belly softly. “We can do that.”I leaned in closer to her ear. “We already are.”She flushed, swatting at me lightly. “Don’t flirt in front of the doctor.”The doctor laughed. “Trust me it is good for the baby.”Selena smiled. “Oh God, can we go home now? I’m really exhausted.”I gave her a little nod and stood up while offering my hand to her. She took it and got to her feet.“So let’s go and celebrate.”“Celebrate how?”I smirked. “You’ll see.”***Axel’s povI looked around the council hall as I felt the fire from them curling up into the roof. I smiled and leaned back in my chair with my arms crossed across my chest. Anna shuffled through the papers before me while she looked around like she was delivering some kind of grand sermon.I looked at the elders who sat scatter around the long book table.Old men with silver hair, scarred faces, and tired eyes. They didn’t look like warriors anymore, but I knew better… half of them had spilled more blood th
