Chapter 2

Selene's POV

I parked the car and quickly got out, making my way to the house in a sprint.

Since I got the news of the pregnancy, I've felt nothing but joy and peace. The thought of finally being a mother was refreshing.

The door was ajar when I got closer and I frowned. Who could have left it open like this?

Why was the door opened? I wondered as I got closer to the house. I could have sworn I closed it, locked it twice even before leaving.

Had I forgotten to lock it maybe? Could there be a bugler in there? I stood on my tiptoes as I made my way into the house.

“Hello?” I called out but no one answered back. A wave of dread and fear me and I searched for my phone in my purse ready to call Hunter when some sounds coming from the stairs reached my ears.

I paused, my phone in hand and listened again. Still, I heard the same sounds, grunts and moans as if one were in pain.

Panic gripped me tight and I flew up the stairs, adrenaline kicking in fast.

Once I got to the top of the stairs, I stopped and began panting hard, exhausted from that tiny run.

My knuckles were white from holding onto the phone so hard but it was only a precaution.

I had the police on speed just in case and I needed to do was dial the number.

This wasn't how I envisaged this day would go. After getting the news, I thought I'd come back home and cook Hunter a nice dinner then dress up in one of those lingerie things he loved so he could eat after eating.

But….

As I walked towards my bedroom, the one Hunter and I slept in, the sounds became more audible and I could make out two voices.

There was no way that was coming from inside the room  and together at that.

This was Hunter's house as much as it was mine so of course I wasn't surprised to hear his voice but why was I hearing his voice here at home by this time of day?

And with my cousin, Anna?

He hadn't followed me to the hospital because of an important meeting at the office. He said he'd be swamped with work all day so why was he even here right now?

I swallowed and took cautious steps towards our bedroom front where the sounds were coming from.

A sense of dread hit me as I realized the sounds I had been hearing were moans and grunts from pleasure, not from fear or pain as I had presumed before.

Tears began to roll down my cheeks even as I reached the door.

This couldn't be happening right?

Perhaps I was dreaming. That was the only reasonable explanation I could come up with for why those two would be moaning like that from my matrimonial bedroom.

A place that was only meant for Hunter and I.

I pushed the door open and my heart sank. Even if the sounds of their grunts and moans should have prepared me better for the scene in front of me, I still felt a sharp piercing my chest.

“What the hell?” I shrieked, speaking for the first time. They hadn't even realized before now that they had company.

At the sound of my voice, they turned and their eyes widened in shock at being caught together.

Anna avoided my gaze but not before I noticed the guilt swimming in her eyes.

*What's the meaning of this and how long has it been going on?” I was fuming and my joy from the pregnancy was now replaced with a sense of loss at this obvious betrayal.

“Baby I can explain,” Hunter started to say, struggling to cover up and I snorted in disgust.

“You told me you had a meeting, Hunt, what happened to that? And Anna, weren't you out of town??!”

They both exchanged glances and Anna stepped forward, still refusing to meet my eyes.

“This was...let me explain Selene.”

“You weren't supposed to find out this way,” Hunter added and a humourless laugh bubbled out of me.

“I wasn't supposed to…..are you kidding me??! You two have no business having sex together. Hunter you're my husband and Anna, gosh Anna I took you like a sister. How could you betray me like this?”

Hunter shook his head looking sober. “I really wanted to tell you about this myself, Selene.” He sighed and reached for something inside the bedside cupboards. “Here, it's something I've been meaning to give you for a while.”

My hands were shaking as I reached out for the stack of papers in his hand. “What is this?”

He shrugged and I looked down at them. Fresh tears welled up in my eyes as I realized what I was holding.

“Divorce papers?”

“Yes Selene, our marriage has been over for sometime now and I've fallen out of love for you. We can't keep pretending to be happy when I've already moved on.”

This couldn't be happening, I thought as laughter bubbled out of me uncontrollably.

How could this be my life? On the same day I got the best news, I also got the worst?

“Where are the cameras?” I asked after I managed to stop laughing. Surely this was a prank.

“This is not a game Selene, just sign the papers because we're done.”

I scoffed and reached for a pen on the bed. Perhaps he had left it there but I didn't care and scribbled my signature on the last page. “Did you think I'd be hurt by this?” I asked, trying to act nonchalant when my heart was bleeding on the inside.

“Selene I'm really sorry, he said he was going to leave you and I….”

“Shut up Anna, you don't get to talk.” I turned to face Hunter again. “So you asked me for a child and then when I finally get pregnant this is what you do?”

He let out a laugh. “Selene that baby is something you have always wanted, not me. In fact you were obsessed with the idea of being a mother.”

“So now what? How do you plan to handle the baby? I'm carrying your child Hunter!”

“Me? You're the one who's pregnant.” He shrugged. “That's your problem Selene. You're the one who's pregnant so deal with it how you see fit.”

He reached over and snatched the papers from my hands. “With this signed, I have nothing binding me to you.”

The words hit me hard and I staggered back. I couldn't believe how cruel he was.

“Are you saying I should abort this child? Is that it?” I carried on stupidly.

“I don't care what you do Selene. Keep it or don't, that's your problem now.”

“But…’

“We're done here.” He walked towards me and pushed me backwards until my back hit the door, hard. “According to this agreement, you won't be taking anything from here so I suggest you start stripping because if I remember correctly, I bought you everything you have on.”

Dante’s pov“I have a question to ask you,” I said.“Shoot,” Jackson replied.“Do you know anyone,” I said slowly, “anyone who has a crescent moon tattooed on them?”There was a pause for a second. Then Jackson started laughing.“What’s so funny?” I said.He only kept on laughing. “You of all people should know no one is stupid enough to tattoo that on their body.”Now I was confused. “Why do you say that?”He laughed again, then grew quiet. “Because that mark is not a normal symbol. It’s not for style or decoration. It belongs to something… bigger.”I turned away from the window and dropped down onto the edge of the bed beside him. “Tell me, Jackson,” I said softly. “What does it mean?”He was thoughtful for a minute or so before he replied. “Can you remember, Dante… eight or nine years ago, when that bunch of rogues started wintering around those old logging cabins in the Bear’s Hump country?”I nodded. “Yes. I remember. They were strong. Too strong. We couldn’t take them down easil

Dante’s povSara smiled a weak smile. “You worry like a dad already.”I looked up at the sky, watched the slow drifting clouds full of rain not yet fallen. “She’s fragile,” I told her.“She’s strong,” Sara corrected. “I can tell you that she’s taking this like a champ. So many wolves would have fallen apart. Trust me,”I couldn’t say anything as I stated ahead.“Have you seen the birthmark on her neck?” She said after a moment of silence as I frowned.I looked back at her. “What birthmark?”Sara looked shocked. “You’ve never seen it?”I shook my head. “No. Where?”“Just under her ear. On the side of her neck.”“I haven’t actually looked there.” Sara let out a slow breath. “How are we all this blind?”I didn’t say anything. She looked mad.She took a step closer. “That mark… I’ve seen it somewhere. I don’t know when or where, but that symbol means something.”I raised a brow. “What?”“I can’t tell,” she sighed.“But you said it means something.”“I don’t know yet. But I will find out.

Selene’s pov Sara looked at me and smiled. “I knew this would happen.” I made a small frown. “What would happen?” She walked slowly to the bed. “Eventually,” she said, her voice heavy with weary resignation, “your body would start feeling them too.” Dante stood up and stepped aside to let her have room. “Don’t worry," said Sara. "It is not a bad case. You have just begun the–er–’critical’ stage." I looked at her. “What does that mean?” “It means,” she said slowly, “your body is just adjusting. You’re carrying something special. The baby inside you is wolf. That kind of child needs strength. Your body is just waking up to that truth.” “So this is normal?” I asked. She nodded. “Perfectly normal. Pain, pressure, small shocks. It’s all part of the start.” I let out a soft breath. “Thank goodness.” Dante moved closer again and touched my arm. “You hear that? You’re strong.” A knock on the door. A guard stepped in. “Alpha, you are needed.” His eyes were filled wit

Selene’s pov “Come,” he said. “Let’s eat breakfast together.” I rose and joined him. He smiled and waited for me to move beside him. White walls were around us as we walked through the pack house, a beautiful day overseeing the windows. Some guards bowed their heads as he passed them, nodding back at them but still keeping his eyes on me. Once we reached the dining, I gasped softly. The table was full. Eggs, meats, fruits, fresh bread, cheese, sweet cakes; it looked like a feast for ten people; not two. “Is this… all for breakfast?” I asked, my eyes nearly popping out of my head. He laughed and held a chair out for me. “Yes, that’s it. A typical wolf feast.” I lowered myself into the chair and continued to gape at all the food. I watched him start to eat like he hadn’t eaten in days while i ate the meals i could contain in my belly. “I don’t think I can eat this much,” I said as he laughed. “Humans… we get full easily.” He looked at me and laughed. “I forgot how

Sara’s povI started to get back to my abode as the wind flapped my cloak behind me.My feet made loud thumps on the ground. Not because I was tired but because I had too much in my head. That mark on Selene’s neck… it plagued me. I know I’d seen it somewhere before.I opened the wooden door and stepped into a room filled with herbs and dried flowers’ smell. Books were scattered across a table, bottles of various sizes lined up neatly beside those books and to the corner of the room, my maid was sweeping the floor with a broom in her hands. She looked up when she heard me coming in.“Welcome back, Miss Sara,” she said softly.I waved my hand at her. “No need to bow. I’m not the moon goddess.”She smiled a little and kept sweeping. I went over to the chair by the fire and sat down. My bones creaked as I settled. I wasn’t all that old but some days I felt like I was lugging around a century or two.“Fix me some tea, will you?” I asked.“Sure thing,” she said as she rushed around to make

Sara’s povI walked into the packhouse, my steps slow and firm. I could feel the floor under me was smooth and clean. These wolves really knew how to get their chores done. The maids saw me and quickly moved out of my way. One dropped her tray and bent fast to pick it up. Sometimes I liked the attention they gave me. Other times I felt like maybe they were overreacting. But either way, I was glad they were not in my way.One of them opened a door and ran back as they were scared of me but I didn’t smile to anyone. I was living up to my name of the pack witch.I kept walking. My long black dress flowed behind me. My eyes were sharp. I could feel something today. Something strange. The wind told me something was different. I followed the scent and made my way outside, toward the garden. When I stepped into the garden, I stopped. There she was.Selene.She stood in the sun, laughing softly. A guard stood beside her. He was showing her something—his weapon, a sharp silver blade. Selene
