view moreThey managed to catch up to me and my Beta as we made our way to the doctor's office for my appointment.
Today's appointment was far from the usual checkups I'd come for monthly.
I had come with a sole purpose; donate my sperm and leave the doctors to find a suitable surrogate that would carry my child.
It was quite simple and I expected results in a week.
“Alpha, good morning.” A lady wearing a white doctor's coat greeted us as we reached the hallway. “Dr. Gerald is expecting you to please come with me.”
Wordlessly, I followed her, my nerves starting to kick in which was laughable considering my reputation as a ruthless and rigid, stone cold ruler.
My nerves were acting up because of how important this was to me.
Having a family has always been no 1 on my list of priorities. Sure having a wife would have been the fastest route to take considering how desperate I was to father a child.
The gender was of no consequence to me although having a son meant I had an heir but I didn't give a fuck about all that.
“Alpha Dante, it's lovely to see you again,” Dr. Gerald was waiting for us at his doorstep when we got there. “Thank you Helen, I'll take it from here. Come in Alpha,”
He swiftly dismissed everyone else except my beta of course as both of us followed him into his office.
I sveuxhed up my nose as I took in the size. It was quite small in my opinion and too degrading for a reputable hospital such as this one.
“Alpha, after our conversation yesterday I've made all the necessary preparations and we can go to the lab when you're ready.”
“In a minute,” I shook my head as my tone took on a slight edge. “I don't want just anyone as my surrogate because I'm not that desperate.”
He nodded rather too quickly and I narrowed my eyes. “Of course Alpha, only the best for you and nothing else.”
Even though I didn't trust his response, I decided to let it slide.
“If you're ready Alpha, let's proceed to the lab,”
I rose to my feet at the same time he rounded the table and met me by the door.
He reached out and held the door open for me, his actions nothing short of ass kissing and I rolled my eyes.
The sooner we got the samples taken, the better before I went off on him.

Selene's POV “Please have good news for me,” I muttered a silent prayer up to heaven as I got down from my car.The hospital parking lot was quite scanty which was rather strange but I wasn't bothered by it, all my thoughts centered on the outcome of the IVF procedure.
I wanted to be a mother so bad I could taste it but I had been trying for years with no luck.
If this IVF procedure failed, it was back to square one for me because I had poured all my savings into this.
That's why as I walked into the hospital and made my way to the reception, I kept praying for good news.
“Good evening, please I'm here to see Dr. Gerald,” I told the receptionist, skipping the usual pleasantries.
She nodded and checked the records. “Dr. Gerald will see you in a few minutes. Please have your seat,”
Five painful minutes of waiting passed and Dr. Gerald showed up.
“Please come up with me, Selene.”
I followed him, muttering a prayer all the way to his office.
“Have a seat.” He went round the table and sat down in his chair as well. “How are you feeling today?*
“Anxious,” I responded as I let out a forced laugh. “What's the result Doc?” I was practically sitting on pins and needles waiting for him to tell me my fate.
For years I had been trying to get pregnant with my husband and with this one result, I could finally be a mom and make my husband a father.
“I'm pleased to tell you that the process was successful and you're pregnant.”
Joy, pure undiluted joy hit me and I found myself beaming loudly.
Even though I had been praying for the results to be positive, I had also been preparing myself to accept the negatives too.
“Thank you so much, this is such wonderful news.”
He nodded and started reading a few important things out that I needed to note following the course of my pregnancy.
I was excited but I tampered it down and forced myself to seep in as much of what he was saying as I could.
“Remember to register for regular checkups so we can monitor the pregnancy and spot any complications early enough before it becomes a problem.”
My head kept hobbling up and down as I nodded in response to everything he was saying.
After he was done, he stood up and I got up as well, meeting him halfway.
He held his hand out but I ignored it and hugged him instead, my eyes filling up with unshed tears.
He stiffened at first, my actions completely unexpected but eventually he wrapped a large hand around me and patted my back soothingly.
“Thank you so much Doctor, you don't know how long I've dreamed of this day.”
“It's no problem Mrs. Hunter, I was just doing my job.” he pulled away and gestures towards the door. “Let me see you off. I'm sure you can't wait to share this wonderful news with your husband.”
I walked with him and listened as he listened out a couple of multivitamins I had to get for the pregnancy.
“Alpha Dante?” Dr. Gerald paused at his office door and stared at a man who was standing there.
I recognized him instantly. Everyone knew who he was because his name was renowned.
I could feel a sharp gaze on me and looked up to find him staring intently at me.
My hands went up to my face and I touched every angle wanting to know if there was something there.
Or else why would he be staring at me so intently?
“Do you know Alpha Dante, Mrs Hunter?”
“No,” I was too quick to respond.
“No,” he answered, speaking for the first time. “I just thought she seemed familiar.”
“I'll just excuse you,” I said, grateful for a chance to escape.
Selene’s pov“I didn’t ask for any of this,” I whispered. “I didn’t want a Thane wolf. I didn’t even want to be here. I just… I just wanted a normal life.”“Yeah, well,” she said, finally sitting beside me, “normal flew out the damn window the moment you had an alphas baby and woke up with ancient wolf fire burning behind your eyes.”My cup rattled against the saucer. I had to put it down before I dropped it.“People look at me like I’m a monster they’re trying real hard not to poke.”“You’re not a monster.”“I don’t feel human anymore.”“You’re not, not really.”That didn’t help. She saw the look on my face and reached for my hand. Her grip was warm, firm, solid. But you’re you. That’s still there. I see it, even if other people don’t.”My eyes burned. I blinked fast. “Sara, what happens if she comes back? If the seal doesn’t hold?”Sara didn’t speak for a long time. And when she did, it was slow. Careful.“There are people who’d rather kill you than take that risk.”My whole body te
Selene’s pov“You are to help with small disputes for now,” Doreen said. “Help guide the women of the pack. Organize seasonal rituals. Approve betrothal matches when the elders ask your counsel.”I blinked. “Approve matches?”“Yes.”“Like people getting married?”“Something like that.”I was confused as mora smiled. “You shouldn’t be bothered. You will learn quickly. We will teach you. But if I must say, your wedding has brought talk amongst our people.”My heart sank a little. “Talk?”Ilka waved her hand, dismissive. “Nothing serious. Just murmurs. Some thought your wedding was… abrupt.”That was putting it lightly.“But you’re here now,” Mora said, “and that’s what matters. We just want you prepared.”“May I ask something?” I finally said, voice quieter than I meant.“Of course,” Mora replied.“Why wasn’t I told about any of this before the wedding?”They looked at each other, not in surprise—but in that way people do when they know a question is coming but were hoping it wouldn’t b
Selene’s povWe walked the halls side by side and people we passed bowed, staff members and warriors and even an elder or two bowing their heads and murmuring greetings. “Alpha. Luna.”“Congratulations, Alpha. Luna.”“Long live our Alpha and Luna.”The words were foreign on my tongue. Like hearing your name pronounced in a different language.I kept a calm face as I walked past them. I felt a bit weird as I noticed a lot of people staring at me. I wasn’t used to this many people staring at me but it was good to see that I was being respected.I held onto Dante’s arm just a little tighter as we got to the throne room.Soon the door was opened and we were announced as I saw the whole pack was there. Men, women, children. Elders lined up along the edges. Warriors in uniform. Maids in fresh linen. Everyone watching. Everyone waiting.I swallowed as Dante led me to the center. The room grew silent for a moment. Eerily silent until one of the elders stepped forward.“Alpha Dante. Luna Sel
Dante’s povWe took the side exit through the hallway and ended up at the back balcony. I felt the cold breeze hit me as the moon held high and full in the sky.He passed me a cup. I didn’t ask what it contained; I just took a long sip.“Congrats, by the way,” he said after a pause. “I’m not going to lie, I didn’t expect it to be this fast.”“Neither was I,” I muttered. Another silence brewed within us before he leaned forward on the railing. “Some of the elders aren’t too happy about it.” “I don’t care.” I let out a breath and sipped again.“You should.”“Why? All they’ve done is be terrible towards her.”He looked around and then leaned in to me. “You married a Thane, Dante. You might not care, but they do.”I tensed, not liking the sound of that. I didn’t say anything in return.“Yeah, I know she is one. I’ve been your friend for years, you can’t expect me to not know all your battles. I can sense the thane spirit within her.”“Seems like everyone knows about her being a thane.”
Selena’s povAfter the wedding, we went to a large hall to celebrate the reception. The tables were filled with foods and heavy with assorted meals as the feast was in full roar.I sat at the head table with Dante but it didn’t feel real. It felt like I was in some kind of movie. An elder rose from the far end of the table, lifting his goblet toward us. He was truly ancient with bone white hair and old leather for skin, but his voice was strong.“To the Alpha and Luna!” he shouted. The hall fell silent. “To their bond bringing strength to our pack, and to the moon lighting their path every night.”A cheer erupted, loud and warm. I found Dante’s gaze as we raised our cups, toasting in their direction. Someone began to chant, first softly, then others following until the room was filled with our names repeated again and again. For a moment then I felt something barreling toward me—a feeling deeper than nerves; not fear exactly. More like. . . acceptance. Finally the cheers died down, th
Selena’s povI wondered if I was being sacrificed as no one answered me. Instead they kept on chanting as I looked around for a familiar face but I didn’t get any. No sign of Dante or even Sara. I would even be glad to see Anna my sister but nope. I was in the midst of old women chanting otherworldly songs. They then helped me out of bed as they bathed me and lathered me with herbs and oil before dressing me up in a soft white cloth. They worked on my hair and did my makeup as I felt like a royal.Sara showed up at the door a few minutes later and I shot to my feet."Where’s Dante?” I asked, my voice coming out in a whisper. But Sara stepped forward and closed the door behind her. “You’ll see him soon enough,” she told me with a smile before crossing the room to fix my sleeve. “You look so beautiful Selene... really.”I gave her a tiny unsure smile. “What is this? What’s happening? These ladies came in and started singing hymns or chants or something.”She stopped, hands poised near
