Diane's POV
"How much did he send?" Sophie, my best friend, asked over the phone."Two thousand dollars for just finding his son!" I replied. I still found it strange that Bucks had transferred such a huge amount of money to my account even though it was on behalf of the tall man I met last night at the warehouse."Waoh! He must be a very wealthy man. I am happy for you baby girl and yes, you owe me a bucket of ice cream and this is a good time for you to pay up!" Sophie said and I could tell the amusement in her voice."I don't know who he is, Sophie, that's why I am going to Bucks right now. I need to be certain I didn't just get some Mafia money or something," I replied.I already planned to set a case against Monique and Liam in the future, I wouldn't want my account to be traced later and it would be found that I had a deal with strange people."Oh, Diane. You think too much! Can you just forget about the past now and enjoy your life?" Sophie said and I could hear her deep breath through the phone."My life came to a stop the day my baby died, Sophie. I can't forget it until all those who offended me are put behind bars." I pulled my hands into fists and marched onto the elevator."Diane, you know I will always support you with everything I have. It's either you let me help you or us—""Sophie, you are a celebrity, I wouldn't want to drag you into my sad life," I said, interrupting her offer before she even finished. She had offered me her personal lawyer and enough money for me to get the case running but I didn't want to drag her good name into the mess that was my life. I would rather work hard, make my own money and then punish them. The elevator's door dinged and I stepped in. My breath hitched in my throat as my green eyes fell on the person towering in front of me."Good morning," I whispered and he flashed me a tight-lipped smile."Good morning," he replied and for some reason I found myself getting lost in his aura. There was something about him but I just couldn't put a finger on it."Diane?""Huh?" I stuttered remembering that she was still on the call. "Sophie, I have to go now. We'll talk later," I said and quickly ended the call before she could protest.I was about to ask about his son but the elevator dinged again and he stepped out.I was still lost in my thoughts and the elevator carried me over to the next floor where I was supposed to meet Bucks. My simple sweatshirt and leggings looked out of place as I walked through the open office setting to the office at the corner where Bucks worked before the lounge opened."Diane, the woman of the moment!" He said the moment I stepped in.I gave him a wry smile and I was about to give him a sarcastic reply when I noticed that there was someone else in the room. His hazel eyes and dark hair had a striking resemblance to Owen's father and I wondered if they were related. He had the sort of face that wasn't easily forgotten but Owen's father was more memorable."Good morning," I said to the handsome man on the seat then turned to Bucks. "I can come back if this isn't a good time.""It's always a good time for you my dear. I was about to call for you myself. It's good that you came. Please sit," He said motioning to the empty seat beside the man."Thank you," I whispered."This is Mr. Lucas Blackwood, he is Mr. Lucius's assistant and younger brother. You met Mr. Lucius last night, he is the new owner of Redskins Group of Companies," Bucks introduced him and then turned to him, "...as you must have guessed, this is the beautiful Diane McKenzie, our heroine who found your nephew."I got the answer to the question I came to ask through his introduction. So Mr. Lucius owned the Redskins Group... No wonder he could throw away such an amount of money just for gratitude.Lucas beamed and stretched a hand to me. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss McKenzie.""Please, call me, Diane.""Diane, a beautiful name for an equally beautiful woman," he said and I smiled politely at him."So, Diane, Mr. Lucas here came to inform you that the boss, will like to see you in his office before the lounge opens—""If it won't be much trouble of course," Lucas quickly added. His hazel eyes looked deeply into me as if he was trying to fix a puzzle."Yeah, it's— it's fine. I shall go right now," I said and got up."I would have walked you but Bucks and I have unfinished business," Lucas said and I flashed him a small smile."No, it's fine. I know my way around," I said and left them.As I returned to the elevator, I wondered what he would want to see me for... Come to think of it, we met in the elevator a few minutes ago and he didn't say anything. The elevator opened and I marched to the CEO's office. My heart flipped as I got to his door but I pulled myself together. I gave a soft knock before pushing the door open."Diane McKenzie, right?" He said the moment the door opened. "Take a seat. I have an offer for you."A cloud of confusion hovered on my face as I sat on the chair and looked at him, waiting for the offer he had.He took a deep breath and started, "My son has never been so clingy to someone else other than me or his uncle."I swallowed the anxiety under my skin and searched for the right response to give. "Oh... How is he?" I asked instead."He needs your presence to help him. I want you to come live with us," he said.My brows furrowed as I waited for him to tell me what he just said was a joke but the look on his face remained stoic."Umm... I am sorry but... I can't accept that," I said. "It's inappropriate for a man and a woman to live together under the same roof when they are not married," I explained. He relaxed in his seat and studied my face."Marry me," he blurted and my heart froze.Diane’s POVI felt something within me shift and before I could stop myself, I threw myself against Scarred-face, screaming my lungs out.“Let my baby go!” I screamed. In my mind, I was so sure that I would manage to create enough distractions to take Owen from them and run as far as I could, but all those moves were only in my head. I didn’t even get far before Liam grabbed me roughly by the arm.“Where do you think you are going? The party is just starting…” he growled and threw me hard towards the bed. My head hit the bedframe and I felt my consciousness dwindle before my eyes.I blinked, panicking even stronger. If anything happened to me now, I wouldn’t be able to protect Owen anymore. I would fail once again in protecting my baby.“Mummy!” Owen screamed and I tried to raise myself from the ground despite the dizziness in my head.I refused to give up. My body was groaning in defeat, but I would rather die. Adrenaline pumped through my bloodstreams, and I dragged myself back to m
Diane’s POVAs soon as Liam stepped out of the room, I saw it as my opportunity to escape from his room. I returned my shirt to their position and moved out at once. I still remembered the route we had taken while coming, so I traced it back to my room.I was about to take the final bend when I heard a deafening growl from a room on my right. The blood within my body froze and panic started drumming through my skin. They said anyone who knew could be rescued, so I let my curiosity lead me to the side of the wall where I could get a good angle to see what was happening in that room.“No!” the roar echoed out of the room once again. “Keith can’t die like that!” he screamed again, and I watched as Liam held his head and dropped to the ground with tears in his eyes.“My lord, I saw the body with my two eyes. Lucius had made sure there would be no regeneration for him. He is dead-” a man covered in a hood was saying.I covered my mouth as the realization of what this meant flooded through
Lucius’s POV“Are you sure we are heading in the right direction?” I asked Monique for the third time since we have been on the road. I noticed that we had been going around the same places for close to two hours now and she just sat there with a smug look on her face, watching me as I drove as if I was a new show in a cinema.“Monique? Didn’t you hear me?” I asked, throwing a glance in her direction. She was now sitting with her legs spread apart and the skirt barely visible anymore.“Hmmm, yeah… yes, of course… just keep going…” she said, waving her hand to the screen while her eyes remained on me.My wolf twisted with disgust at her position. If she couldn’t sit properly, she shouldn’t have worn such an absurd outfit. I wanted to reprimand her to adjust herself, but I decided to ignore it. She was not my responsibility.“I don’t know if you have noticed but we have been going round the same place for hours now. Can you look at the road and tell me where we are supposed to go?” I a
Diane’s POVI planned on convincing Louis to help us escape but after hearing that Liam and Keith had his family, I couldn’t bring myself to say anymore. I would do anything to save my family, so I understood exactly where he stood in all of these. In the next couple of hours, I tried to remain positive as I studied every inch of the room, we were kept in, hoping that a miraculous door would appear from nowhere and I could step out of it.I even took my time to think about my decisions, wondering if things could have been different if I had acted in another way. I was stuck on a roller coaster of emotions till sleep managed to steal me.But even the sleep didn’t give me the rest of mind I needed. I kept seeing horrible endings to our situation that soon turned into a nightmare. The worst of them was when I saw Liam kill Owen. I was going to die first before I let anything happen to Owen.By the time my eyes opened, they went straight to Owen and I only relaxed after I saw that he was
Lucius’s POVIt was already in the early hours of the morning when I got to Macy’s house. As usual, as soon as I parked the vehicle in their driveway, I noticed the move of the curtain and I was suddenly reminded of Fred’s death. At some point after all of this was over, I would have to inform her of what had happened to her brave husband. My heart was heavy with sadness, but I swallowed it back. If I slacked now, her husband wouldn’t be the only bad news I would be giving her.I got out of the vehicle and this time Lucas stepped down with me. Together we went to her front door and just a few feet before we got to it, the door opened, and it wasn’t who I was expecting.“Where is Diane?” Sophie’s firm voice rang out around the area like she had a microphone buried in her throat.“Something came up and she… can I come in, there is a lot I have to explain to you,” I said. My voice was heavy with emotions, and I hoped she didn’t aggravate things. She studied me for a second before her sha
Lucius’s POVWith Keith dead, I left the captain of my soldiers and Kasper in charge, and I took one of the cars back to the human city to get the answers I needed. There was still a lot to be done, but I knew that I could trust my men to do a very good job of clearing everything and sorting what needed to be sorted. As I drove, my eyes were fixed on the road, but my heart ached for Diane. She was going to be broken when she found out about her grandfather but more than that, I needed to get her before Liam decided to do something crazy. Each moment I spent in that vehicle increased the number of questions rolling through my head and by the time I got to Bucks quarters, I practically jumped out of the moving vehicle.Lucas who had already been notified was standing at the entrance waiting for me and the moment he saw me, he ran towards me and hugged me. A rare moment where we shared our bond as brothers and as much as I wanted to just push him away and proceed inside, I could understa
