Marry Me...

Diane's POV

"How much did he send?" Sophie, my best friend, asked over the phone.

"Two thousand dollars for just finding his son!" I replied. I still found it strange that Bucks had transferred such a huge amount of money to my account even though it was on behalf of the tall man I met last night at the warehouse.

"Waoh! He must be a very wealthy man. I am happy for you baby girl and yes, you owe me a bucket of ice cream and this is a good time for you to pay up!" Sophie said and I could tell the amusement in her voice.

"I don't know who he is, Sophie, that's why I am going to Bucks right now. I need to be certain I didn't just get some Mafia money or something," I replied.

I already planned to set a case against Monique and Liam in the future, I wouldn't want my account to be traced later and it would be found that I had a deal with strange people.

"Oh, Diane. You think too much! Can you just forget about the past now and enjoy your life?" Sophie said and I could hear her deep breath through the phone.

"My life came to a stop the day my baby died, Sophie. I can't forget it until all those who offended me are put behind bars." I pulled my hands into fists and marched onto the elevator.

"Diane, you know I will always support you with everything I have. It's either you let me help you or us—"

"Sophie, you are a celebrity, I wouldn't want to drag you into my sad life," I said, interrupting her offer before she even finished.

She had offered me her personal lawyer and enough money for me to get the case running but I didn't want to drag her good name into the mess that was my life. I would rather work hard, make my own money and then punish them.

The elevator's door dinged and I stepped in. My breath hitched in my throat as my green eyes fell on the person towering in front of me.

"Good morning," I whispered and he flashed me a tight-lipped smile.

"Good morning," he replied and for some reason I found myself getting lost in his aura.

There was something about him but I just couldn't put a finger on it.

"Diane?"

"Huh?" I stuttered remembering that she was still on the call. "Sophie, I have to go now. We'll talk later," I said and quickly ended the call before she could protest.

I was about to ask about his son but the elevator dinged again and he stepped out.

I was still lost in my thoughts and the elevator carried me over to the next floor where I was supposed to meet Bucks.

My simple sweatshirt and leggings looked out of place as I walked through the open office setting to the office at the corner where Bucks worked before the lounge opened.

"Diane, the woman of the moment!" He said the moment I stepped in.

I gave him a wry smile and I was about to give him a sarcastic reply when I noticed that there was someone else in the room. His hazel eyes and dark hair had a striking resemblance to Owen's father and I wondered if they were related.

He had the sort of face that wasn't easily forgotten but Owen's father was more memorable.

"Good morning," I said to the handsome man on the seat then turned to Bucks. "I can come back if this isn't a good time."

"It's always a good time for you my dear. I was about to call for you myself. It's good that you came. Please sit," He said motioning to the empty seat beside the man.

"Thank you," I whispered.

"This is Mr. Lucas Blackwood, he is Mr. Lucius's assistant and younger brother. You met Mr. Lucius last night, he is the new owner of Redskins Group of Companies," Bucks introduced him and then turned to him, "...as you must have guessed, this is the beautiful Diane McKenzie, our heroine who found your nephew."

I got the answer to the question I came to ask through his introduction. So Mr. Lucius owned the Redskins Group... No wonder he could throw away such an amount of money just for gratitude.

Lucas beamed and stretched a hand to me. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss McKenzie."

"Please, call me, Diane."

"Diane, a beautiful name for an equally beautiful woman," he said and I smiled politely at him.

"So, Diane, Mr. Lucas here came to inform you that the boss, will like to see you in his office before the lounge opens—"

"If it won't be much trouble of course," Lucas quickly added.

His hazel eyes looked deeply into me as if he was trying to fix a puzzle.

"Yeah, it's— it's fine. I shall go right now," I said and got up.

"I would have walked you but Bucks and I have unfinished business," Lucas said and I flashed him a small smile.

"No, it's fine. I know my way around," I said and left them.

As I returned to the elevator, I wondered what he would want to see me for... Come to think of it, we met in the elevator a few minutes ago and he didn't say anything.

The elevator opened and I marched to the CEO's office. My heart flipped as I got to his door but I pulled myself together. I gave a soft knock before pushing the door open.

"Diane McKenzie, right?" He said the moment the door opened. "Take a seat. I have an offer for you."

A cloud of confusion hovered on my face as I sat on the chair and looked at him, waiting for the offer he had.

He took a deep breath and started, "My son has never been so clingy to someone else other than me or his uncle."

I swallowed the anxiety under my skin and searched for the right response to give. "Oh... How is he?" I asked instead.

"He needs your presence to help him. I want you to come live with us," he said.

My brows furrowed as I waited for him to tell me what he just said was a joke but the look on his face remained stoic.

"Umm... I am sorry but... I can't accept that," I said. "It's inappropriate for a man and a woman to live together under the same roof when they are not married," I explained.

He relaxed in his seat and studied my face.

"Marry me," he blurted and my heart froze.
