Take My Number

Lucius's POV

As I stepped into the warehouse, I was shocked to find Owen holding the strange woman so tightly. I walked up to them and tried to take him away from her but he resisted.

"Owen, it's daddy!" I growled at him but he just refused to let her go.

His head was resting on her shoulder and I didn't want to pull him forcefully for the fear of triggering his wolf.

The strange woman looked at me and gave me an apologetic smile. "Let me help," she whispered in a soft voice.

She turned to whisper to him and gently pried his small arms off her neck. "Hey, big guy..."

He left her neck and stared into her face. "Go to daddy, I am right here. I am not going anywhere. I promise..." she whispered and Owen nodded.

Reluctantly, he turned to me and I took him from her.

"Why did you leave the doctor and come here? Don't you know it isn't safe?" I reprimanded him but he pinched his face into a frown and refused to respond.

"Are you listening to me?" I hissed, getting frustrated by his attitude. I almost ran mad searching for him for close to two hours and now he didn't even want to listen to me!

"Sir, please let him be. He is just a child. Let's be grateful we found him," Bucks said and I nodded at him.

"Fine. You can go on with your work. I'll take him home now. Thank you miss," I said to her.

But Owen turned around and stretched out his hands to the strange woman again.

"What now?" I hissed but she shook her head to me and I let her handle him.

She came forward and held his hand. "Owen, you have to go home now. I am always here if you want to play," she whispered to him but he shook his head and tightened his hold on her arm.

He turned his head to me and I understood what he wanted. He wanted me to leave him with her.

Seeing how much he was drawn to her, I could have left him with her but I couldn't do that. She was a mere human, leaving a young pup with her would be dangerous

"Owen, you heard her. You can come to play with her when you want but right now, we need to go home," I lied to him. There was no way I would leave him with her for even a second. It was too dangerous.

But Owen refused to listen. He held on tight to her hands and my patience started slipping.

"Owen!" I growled but the strange woman held my upper arm and I paused.

"Owen dear, hold on please," she said to him and he let her go. She walked back to the box behind her and took a notepad that sat there. She scribbled something on it and tore the paper out.

She returned to where I stood and gave the piece of paper to Owen. "That's my number. Call me whenever you need me and I'll be there, okay?" she said to him and surprisingly he let go.

I was stunned. Owen had never behaved like this with someone else before.

"Thank you," I said to her as I turned to leave. As I got to the door I paused and turned to Bucks, "send me her account details. I want to send her my gratitude."

"Yes sir." Bucks replied.

I held on to my son and we walked out of the lounge and straight to my car where I strapped him in his car seat.

Owen meant everything to me.

I picked him up at a human hospital when one of my men called to inform me of a stillborn werewolf foetus found in his workplace.

The baby was barely breathing when I got there. My blood was transfused to its tiny body and I watched as it came to life. From that moment, I got attached to him. I couldn't give it up to someone else in the pack, so I decided to take care of him myself.

But Owen had one problem, he was autistic. He refused to talk and kept to himself. He only let a few people in the pack touch him hence my surprise when I found him hugging a stranger.

I looked back at him from the rearview mirror as I drove and saw that he was smiling at the piece of paper she had given him.

It was strange but it brought joy to my heart to see that he was happy about something so small.

The car soon got to the house and I eased it slowly to the garage. Lucas, my beta and younger brother was already waiting at the entrance.

I stepped down from the car and carried Owen with me.

"You said you stayed longer than necessary. Did something happen?" Lucas asked as we reached the entrance.

"Owen ran off and it took me two hours to find him!" I hissed as I passed him to Lucas.

"Hey little man, you can't go running off like that. We don't want daddy to cry now, do we?" Lucas mused and I sent a glare his way.

We got inside and as soon as Lucas sat down, Owen got down from his legs and went to the home phone on the side table.

Lucas wanted to stop him but I held him back. "Leave him," I whispered.

Owen opened up the piece of paper in his hand and entered the number to the phone. It was then I realized the strange woman in the warehouse had given him her number.

The phone started ringing and she picked up.

"Hello?" Her gentle voice said.

I held my breath as I watched Owen.

Was he going to respond? I wondered.

He didn't say anything. But he smiled and held the phone tight.

"What's going on?" Lucas whispered and I went on to explain everything that had happened to him.

"Waoh, do you know her? I think her presence around him might help his condition... He might just speak..." Lucas suggested.

I didn't know her but for some reason, her face looked familiar like I had met her before.

"I don't know, but I wouldn't want Owen around humans. He wouldn't be safe, you know Patrick is still out there..."

Lucas stayed quiet and I could tell he was deep in thought.

"What if you ask her to come to stay with you instead for a couple of months?"

Autism is a spectrum and he’s a wolf and he’s smart. Could he be her baby? And if he is, who was his father?
