2: Confusing

(ZEHRA’S POV)

I froze in place. Even if I wanted to take a step and leave that place, I couldn't. My heart was also pounding as if it would come out at any moment.

The number of people around is gradually increasing. Maybe they saw the four women running from where I was. Anyone who sees them will be really curious as to what happened and they just look like that. They ran as if someone wanted to kill them.

I would also do the same if the person who tells me 'Let go before I make you' is the person who is feared in their University. I will also choose to run away rather than staying in that place and wait for that person to get close.

I took a deep breath and was about to walk away when I heard a voice, stopping me on what I was about to do.

"Stay right there!" A manly voice said.

I didn't dare to check who it was. My back remained facing where they were. Then I heard footsteps approaching where I was and some whispers from the people watching. I felt nervous again. Feeling my stomach twist into knots, suddenly I felt sick.

I tightened my grip on the book I was carrying as I also bit my lower lip. I can hear murmurs from the people watching but I couldn't care less. All I wanted was to be away from that place. Which was impossible, especially when the footsteps stopped behind me. I can feel their presence.

"Turn around." The same voice that stopped me earlier said.

I closed my eyes tight and took a deep breath before slowly turning around to face them—the three of them. I caught my breath when I saw how close they were to me. I unconsciously took a step back when I looked at the person in the middle who was the reason why the four women ran earlier like death was chasing them. Well, I can't blame them because death was really chasing them, in the form of the person in front of me.

"You look like you've seen some ghost." The guy on the left amusingly commented but I didn't pay any attention to him. My eyes remained to the person on the middle who was also looking at me intently, like he was checking my inner soul.

It was the first time I saw them this close. I chose to stay in the library during my vacant periods, to avoid the bullies and getting into trouble…but trouble always chase me no matter how much I’m avoiding it.

I heard lots of stories about them. The trio had their own private place which I don't want to know where it was located. After all, curiosity can kill the cat and that's the last thing I wanted right now. I can't risk my safety without getting what I really came here for.

Khryx, the guy on the left, and Khrey, the one on the right, was from the Blood Moon Pack. They are twins and both the Alpha's right hand. You can easily distinguish who's who because Khryx has longer hair compared to Khrey.

And the person standing in their middle was none other than the newly appointed Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack, Xanthous Weinberg. He was labelled as one of the most feared Alpha in the Valley. With his sapphire colored eyes that scream nothing but coldness and dominance, everyone will surely shivers because of fear and nervousness.

I bowed down my head as a sign of respect, also to hide my face and bit my lower lips. I remained staring at my shoes for a while before finally getting the courage to talk.

"I'm sorry!" I started, mentally congratulating myself for not stammering. "I didn't intend to cause any trouble." I added.

I had nothing to say sorry for but I still did it just to avoid any trouble in the future. I learned from one of my classmates, Rale, that I should never mess with the trio. Messing with them means digging my own grave.

My brows furrowed when I heard someone laugh. I slowly lifted my gaze and found Khryx chuckling. Then Khrey followed. But the Alpha remained having a serious expression that sent shivers down my spine.

"You're being funny, little one." Khrey said. I looked at him and he smiled. I was slightly taken aback. They don’t usually smile to other people, especially to someone like me.

"What did they do to you?" Khryx asked that made me look at him.

"P-Pardon?" I asked because I didn't know what he's talking about.

"Those four women earlier."

"Uhm..." I looked down, which I immediately regretted because I saw my arm, the one Ciara gripped earlier. It was almost covered with blood.

Blood. Lots of blood.

My whole body suddenly became numb. My vision started to become blurry as I stared at my arm longer. My grip on the book tightened upon feeling my stomach twist into knots. I felt more sick compared to what I felt earlier before the trio walked closer to me.

That night flashed back to me, making it hard for me to breath. My hands begun to shake. My family’s condition that night was clear. It felt like I was taken back to that night. Then someone spoke, getting me back to my reverie.

"Your arm." Khryx said. I wasn't sure if the concern I heard in his voice was real or it was just my imagination.

"You need to be treated immediately." Khrey added.

But before I could answer, my vision suddenly went dark until I completely lost consciousness.

(XANTH’S POV)

I was fast enough to catch the woman before she completely fell to the ground. Maybe the desire to help others prevailed so I was able to do that. After all, helping was one of my top priorities as the newly appointed Alpha of our pack.

I should always have a good image while maintaining our position on top of the food chain. My father will hate me if I do something that will ruin the image of the pack.

"Let me carry her." Khryx said and was about to touch her but I gave him a warning look. He raised both his hands like he was surrendering. "You carry her to the clinic then."

I put my free hand at the back of the woman's knee and carried her in a bridal style. She's not that heavy but also not that light.

"Pick up her things and follow us in the library." I commanded directly to Khryx before walking towards the direction of the clinic.

The clinic was not that far from the garden where we came from. I immediately dropped her gently on the bed as soon as we reached the place.

"You clean her wounds immediately." Khrey told the nurse who doesn't know what to do first, whether to greet them or check the patient immediately.

I walked out of the clinic as soon as the nurse attended the woman's wounds. Khrey stayed with them.

"Where's Khrey?" Khryx asked when he saw me standing outside, just in front of the door. He was holding the woman's things that fell to the ground earlier when she lost consciousness.

"Inside." I simply replied. I don't want to talk.

Khryx just nodded before going inside. I released a sigh before following him. The nurse was already bandaging the woman's arm when I got back.

"It's done, Alpha." The nurse said after a while. "Let's just wait for her to wake up."

"How long would it take?" Khryx asked the question I can't voice out.

I was not used to sticking my nose to someone else's business. But the moment I witnessed the woman's situation earlier, I couldn't help but to interfere. I had no idea who she was but when I saw her reaction being hurt by Caira's grip, all of a sudden, I wanted to break Ciara's neck and bury her six feet below the ground.

The fast beating of my heart and the urge to be near the woman felt weird. And my wolf's sudden change of reaction also confused me. My wolf felt more excited to be near her. It felt weird. It was the first time my wolf ever felt that way.

"Are we going to wait until she wakes up?" Khrey curiously asked after we sat down on the visitor’s chair, just in front of the nurse's table who was busy reading some files.

"Leave if you want." I emotionlessly said that made the twins look at each other. Maybe they had the same thing in mind—I am being weird.

The nurse told us that she'll wake up any moment. We need—we should go but I don't have the strength to just leave her without making sure that she's really okay. Honestly, my wolf was the one stopping me from leaving her.

"She's awake." The nurse announced that made me stand up immediately and walked to where the woman was laying.

And true to the nurse's words, she was really awake and staring at me with wide eyes. I ignored her reaction and walked towards her. But I felt someone held my arm, stopping me from stepping forward and closer to the woman.

"Don't do it, Alpha." Khrey said. "You'll scare her."

I stared at the woman. Fear was visible in her ocean blue eyes. Her unwounded arm was also gripping the bed sheet tightly.

I released a sigh of defeat. I removed Khrey's grip on my arm before storming out of the clinic, much to my wolf's dismay. Khryx immediately followed me without any words. He already knows where the I am going.

(ZEHRA’S POV)

I woke up and the first thing that greeted my sight was white ceilings. When I roamed my eyes through the place, I realized I was in the clinic. And that's when I remembered what happened before I lost consciousness.

The trio.

I began to panic and was about to get off the bed but the nurse showed up. She then announced that I’m already awake.

My eyes automatically went wide when I saw who was standing next to the nurse. Unconsciously, my unwounded arm gripped the sheets upon meeting the Alpha's stare.

Why is he here? Is he the one who brought her here?... That was some of her questions.

I released a sigh of relief when Khrey stopped the Alpha from getting closer to me. And I was more than relieved when he left, Khryx following him immediately.

"You felt it, didn't you?" Khrey broke the silence after we were left alone. "You felt it. It's obvious." He stated then left me open-mouthed.

"What 'felt' is he talking about?" I asked myself, confused. Until I felt like I heard someone talk in my mind.

'Until the right time comes.'
