Day One

Leon started with the drawers. They were easy not full of anything that could knock the wind out of him. If he touched the important things first, he wasn’t sure he’d finish.

He opened two suitcases on the bed: one big, one small. His hands shook as he folded his shirts and tried to stack them in neat piles.

Every so often, he’d pause and listen for footsteps in the hallway.

He slipped a folded sweater into the bag as if he was hiding top-secret contraband, not just packing for a trip

Damian stood at the mirror in the adjoining dressing room, fastening his cufflinks with quick, practiced movements, while Leon lay curled on his side on the bed, watching him through the open door without quite meaning to. "You're staring," Damian said, not looking up. "I'm resting my eyes in your general direction." A faint smile tugged at his mouth as he shrugged into his jacket. "I have meetings until at least six. Marco's handling the Genoa contract details, but I need to be there for the final sign off." "I'll survive an afternoon without you." Leon shifted, pulling the blanket higher. "I have Maria, apparently. And your grandfather's porridge, which I still haven't managed to eat." Damian crossed back into the bedroom, straightening his collar. "About this morning." "I don't want to talk about it." "Leon." "I mean it." Leon sat up slightly, arms wrapping around his knees. "I already know what he thinks of my family. I don't need to hear it explained to me twice before ni

  • The Alpha's Forbidden Heir   The first night

The bed was enormous, which helped, and did absolutely nothing at the same time. Leon lay stiff on his side, as close to the edge as physically possible without falling off, staring at the wall while the sounds of Damian settling in on the other side filled the silence, the shift of fabric, the creak of the mattress adjusting to his weight, all of it too loud in a room that had gone otherwise completely quiet. "You can move a little closer to the middle," Damian said, voice low in the dark. "I'm not going to bite you." "I'm fine here." "You're going to fall off the bed." "I've slept in smaller spaces than this half of a mattress." A pause. Then, quietly, something that might have been amusement. "Stubborn." "You have no idea." Silence settled again, thick and unfamiliar, and Leon lay there listening to Damian's breathing slow beside him, close enough that he could feel the warmth radiating off him even across the distance he'd carefully maintained. "Damian." "Mm." "Does it

  • The Alpha's Forbidden Heir   A Lie Called Love

Maria led them up a wide staircase to a suite at the far end of the house, opening double doors onto a room bigger than Leon's entire bedroom back home, pale cream walls, tall windows overlooking the gardens, a bed large enough to comfortably sleep three people who had no interest in sharing it with each other. "I'll have your things brought up shortly," Maria said, setting a stack of fresh linens on the dresser. "If you need anything at all, Mr. Leon, you ring that bell by the bed and someone will come." "Thank you, Maria." Leon managed a smile, though his eyes had already caught on the single bed, the single obvious fact of it, and the way Damian had gone suspiciously quiet beside him. Maria left, closing the door behind her, and the silence that followed stretched long enough to become its own kind of statement. "One bed," Leon said finally. "I noticed." "You didn't think to mention that this was part of the arrangement." "I didn't think about it at all, honestly." Damian ru

  • The Alpha's Forbidden Heir   The Estate

Damian was waiting at the private airstrip when Leon's car pulled up, standing beside a black sedan with his hands in his pockets, looking, for once, like a man bracing himself rather than commanding a room. Leon stepped out slowly, exhaustion and grief still heavy behind his eyes, and Damian crossed the distance between them without a word, taking the smaller of his two bags before Leon could protest. "You made it," Damian said. "Barely." Leon's voice came out rougher than he intended. "My cousin knows something's wrong. Not what, but something." "We'll deal with that when it comes." Damian opened the car door for him, waiting until Leon was settled before circling to the other side. "For now, let's get you somewhere you can breathe." The drive was quiet, the city sliding past in unfamiliar streets, and Leon watched it with his hands folded tightly in his lap, trying to steady the churn in his stomach that had nothing to do with the pregnancy this time. "Tell me the story again

That part nearly broke him figuring out what a year meant in shirts, socks, shoes. Which version of himself he could bring into another family’s house without looking like he hoped to stay forever. He left the wedding photograph on the nightstand. Couldn’t look at it long enough to decide if he’d take it or not, so he called that a decision, too.His hands wouldn’t quit shaking when he reached the bottom d

  • The Alpha's Forbidden Heir   Next THE CHOICE I MADE

The café Damian picked wasn’t one where anyone from their world would wander in by accident. Two towns away, nondescript, the kind of spot where the staff barely looked up when you walked through the door. Leon got there first. He kept his sunglasses on, even though the sun hadn’t bothered to show up, and wound a scarf higher around his neck than the chill really called for. He sat at the back furthest from the window, hands wrapped around a mug of tea he had no intention of drinking. Damian showed up ten minutes later. He looked almost plain, for once black jacket, nothing tailored, hair pulled back, not loose like usual. He just about blended in, and that bothered Leon a hell of a lot more than it should have. He was used to Damian standing out sharp, certain, impossible to mistake for anyone ordinary. This version unsettled him. Damian slid into the seat across from Leon without saying a word. He studied Leon’s face, silent and patient, the way someone reads the sky, judgin
