I shifted closer to Lily and Fiona, the only anchor I had in this sea of strangers and whispers. The hall buzzed with laughter and clinking glasses, but I couldn’t shake the heaviness in the air. My nerves twisted even tighter as I waited for the Alpha and Luna to speak.

“Are you okay?” Fiona asked quietly, brushing my arm as she leaned closer.

“Yeah,” I lied, giving her a weak smile. “Just… a lot to take in.”

“Don’t worry,” Lily whispered reassuringly. “You belong here, Maya. You’ll see.”

I wanted to believe her. I wanted to let myself feel safe. But Nyx’s voice broke through again, sharper this time. “Ask me about the enemies I told you of before. Do it now.”

So I did. “Nyx… the enemies you mentioned earlier. Who are they? Where are they?”

For a long pause, there was silence. Then, her voice came back softer, uncertain, and it scared me more than her growl ever could. “I… don’t know. It’s strange. I can’t feel them anymore. The dark magic in this room—it clouds me, blinds me.”
