THE UNWANTED KISS

The moment the gate opened, I rushed out, heart pounding so hard it hurt. Maya’s voice from the call echoed in my head — the way it cracked, the way she almost broke down while trying to stay strong.

She sounded terrified.

She sounded alone.

But when they arrived… she wasn’t in my arms.

She was in his.

Damon held her like she belonged there — like he had every right. Her forehead rested against his chest, his arms wrapped tightly around her as though the world needed to be kept away from her.

For a second, I froze.

“Maya…” I whispered, but it didn’t travel far enough to reach her.

Damon lifted his gaze first. Our eyes locked — and he didn’t even blink. No guilt. No hesitation. Just that quiet confidence I hated.

He tightened his hold around her as if daring me to challenge him.

I walked closer, jaw clenched. “Let her go, Damon. She needs space.”

He raised an eyebrow. “She needs support. Something she clearly hasn’t been getting.”
