Azalea

He grabbed my hand and practically dragged me off the field towards the cafeteria.  After a few moments of shock passed, I jerked my hand away from his, causing him to stop and glance back at me.

"Firstly, I'm not 4, you don't have to hold my hand and second... thanks," I said, rolling my neck a little.  "You can call me Az. My mom does."

He laughed a little and replied, "Lead the way, Az."

I started walking again and he fell in step with me.  I could tell he was bursting with questions and as we opened the door to the cafeteria, I said, "Ask.  I can tell.  Just ask."

He blushed a little, clearly embarassed.  "You and your wolf are pretty bad ass for being kinda small.  Where did your coloring come from?  I've never seen a red wolf or a silver one, let alone one with both.  I do dig the purple curls though," he said, tugging lightly on one.  I laughed at him, swatting his hand away as we walked over to the counter where full sized sandwiches on french bread were laid out.  I grabbed 2 ham and turkey and tossed one at my brother.

"I loved watching the old martial arts films and would practice in front of the TV even at an early age.  I also briefly dated this guy who did some underground MMA and got to practice with them.  As for the rest, I really don't know.  It's been this way for me since I first shifted and so I never really thought much on it.  In nature there's red wolves and arctic wolves that are silvery white, so I guess it's a genetic throwback.  Would explain my size too, especially if you believe in the old myths around werewolves.  The purple is half natural half dye- my hair is a dark auburn and silver but I put a purple dye over it and it creates cool high lights.  The curls are from some great great whoever.  Do all wolves look like you and princess barbie?" I replied as they grabbed water from the coolers.

He smiled and swallowed the bite of sandwich he had before replying.  "Well for the most part, wolves are gnereally leaner build, but big.  Not like body builders but definately solid. I mean you do still have some size difference, we're not cookie cutters, and the color variations are unique to individuals and packs.  We're alpha blood, like most here are, so we're a little bit bigger and stronger than most.  But don't let that bother you.  You still got all the power, strength and speed just in a compact version."  he patted the top of my head that didn't quiet come up to his shoulders.

We walked silently back to the clinic, both eating as quickly as we could, lost in thought.  I finished right as we got there and he opened the door for me.  I walked in and again all eyes were on me.  I guess I'll need to get used to that, I thought frowning slightly.  The doctor, the dean and my father were huddled close and looking at something on the chart.

I narrowed my eyes and said, "That's getting really fucking old.  Either say something or I'll just go.  I told you I didn't want to come to this damn place to begin with, but you forced me.  So if I failed then you should just let me go about my life.  I doubt they have a wolf reject school."  I folded my arms across my chest and glared at them.

The longer they stood there, the angrier I got until the temperature in the room began to drop.  I realized what was happening and closed my eyes to count to 20.  I rolled my neck, then shook out my arms before letting them fall to my sides.  "Alrightly then, I'm out," I said turning to go.

"Wait," Dr. Malone called out.  She walked over to the door and quickly locked it before turning around.  "We have some questions for you before I can tell you the results.  What do you know of your mother's family?" the doctor asked.

"Not much.  My grandma is Chinese and my grandpa can trace his roots all the way back to the colonies.  My mom thinks there might be some Native American in there too, but I don't really know much.  Why?" I replied, curious as to why that mattered.

"Your blood tested postive for some other types of supe.  It's very unusual as generally, even in mixed mates, the children take on the dominant gene, which in your case should have been wolf.  But you actually have a balanced bloodline of fae, witch and wolf.  It's something we've never encountered before.  I'm guessing that's why your wolf is smaller, but more powerful and faster than most.  I would also say that it's what caused that little outburst you just had.  Does that happen often?" she asked.

I debated on how much to say.  I didn't want to end up being a guinea pig or some science experiment, but maybe they could teach me more.

"Some," I replied.  "I can pick locks and sometimes you've seen what happens when I get really frustrated.  I accidently made it snow once when I saw my ex boyfriend making out with another girl at the gym."  I glanced at my brother, his face a mix between anger and holding back laughter.

"Do we really need to let the council know right now?"my father asked in a hushed tone.  His face was slightly pale, the worry written on his face.

"Yes," the dean replied.  "But only them.  For now, we need to keep everyone else in the dark.  So here's what we'll do.  You'll be just fine academically to jump into 4th year academics - economics and math.  I'll give you a study hall block in which you can do self paced history in the library or your room and I'll have the rest of your courses given to you by Malorie and Clarissa.  I trust the two of them to explore your powers with you and teach you how to use them.  They are the most well rounded teachers we have."

"As for phys ed, how would you feel about her training with the alphas? I honestly don't know if there's anyone else strong enough for her to spar with and not get hurt.  We can explain it's a hybrid thing, the small but powerful stature, but we need to see what her full potential is," the dean suggested.

"No!" my father said angrily.  " She could get hurt."

"Oh like you care," I shot back quickly.  "I'm not stupid.  There's no lost love here.  I'm an obligation and I'm only here so I don't taint your precious reputation any further than a bastard child already does.  I told you after this year I'm fucking gone."

My father sighed - he seemed to do that a lot when he was around me- and ran his hand through his hair, clearly irritated.  Well so am I, I thought.  I'm not some breakable little thing.  I've lived through a rough life on the run from him. The room temperature dropped again as I fumed.  My brother put his hand on my shoulder, jolting me out of her thoughts.

"I'll be there too dad, she'll be fine.  Didn't you see what a badass she is? Let her do this.  You never know, maybe she'll become an enforcer when all of this is done."

The weight of his hand had startled me enough for my breathing and the temperature to return to normal.  "If that's all, I'm going to my room," I said, watching my father's shoulders slump in defeat.

"Yes dear, go ahead.  Take the rest of the day to relax.  Meet me in the office tomorrow morning, early around 7.  I'll have your schedule worked out and Malorie and Clarissa will want to meet with you tomorrow before the rest of the first years are here," the dean said, smiling.

"Dad, I'm going to walk her to her room and then I'll meet you at the car," my brother said, opening the door for me.  I walked through and headed towards the cafeteria instead.  He laughed and followed me anyways.

We both grabbed another sandwich and some sodas then I led him up to my room.  "Here we are, it's not much," I said unlocking the door and walking in.

"I know dork, mine was the same," he laughed.  "Well except for this fancy set up here," he said plopping down on the sofa.  "Whose your roomie?"

I sat next to him and opened up my sandwich.  "Some girl names Cassandra.  Her dad is some big shot or whatever and she's basically a princess being the only girl."

He laughed.  "She's the farthest thing from a princess - you might actually like her.  Her twin brothers are in class with me.  She's got 5 of them, her eldest being in his 30's I think and the actual alpha.  Her father is now on the council.  They're actually really good people," he replied.  We continued to chat for a few minutes more while we finished our sandwiches.

He stood up and said "Give me your phone."

"Why?" I asked.

"So I can put my number in it dummy," he replied, rolling his eyes with his hand held out.

I smiled and handed it to him.  He typed in his info and handed it back.  I looked down and saw he added his contact as #1 Brother and laughed.  He gave me a hug, which I actually returned before he left.

"Call or text if you need anything.  I'll see you next week when classes start."
