The nurse came in and quickly drew the blood before doing all the normal doctor stuff- height, weight, blood preasure, etc. Then Dr. Malone returned and asked me about my first shift - what it was like and verified my age.
"Ok," the doctor said, "I'm going to close the curtain and I want you to go ahead and shift. I'm going to time you so let me know when you start and come out when you're done."
I quickly got undressed, placing my cothes on the table before calling out to the doctor. Less than a minute later I peaked my snout out from behind the curtain and actually startled the doctor.
"That was fast, under a minute," Dr. Malone said, writing on the chart in her hands. "I'm going to open the curtain so we can get some measurements on you."
I stepped aside gingerly, not liking the feel of cold tile under my paws. The doctor frowned at me and reached out to ruffle my fur.
"You have very unusual coloring for a wolf and are a little on the small side. Has your wolf always been this size or has it grown with you?"
I shrugged as best I could in this form, not really sure how to answer. The doctor took a few more measurements before telling me to shift back and get dressed. She closed the curtain and I did as she asked. I told her that I had been that size since I shifted and my human form hadn't grown any taller since then either.
Once dressed, I followed Dr. Malone out and we joined my father and the dean before heading out to the fields that were set up like an obstacle course. One field was set up like a human obstacle course and the other looked like the ones they set up for the Westminster dog show except bigger with more complex obstacles. I looked over to the doctor and raised a brow in question.
The doctor smiled and said, "I know, but it allows ups to test your agility, strength and speed in both forms. let's start with the human one first." The doctor headed to the left field, leaving my father and the dean standing between the two fields.
The doctor explained what I needed to do for each obstable and in what order before returning to the starting line. I kicked off my flip flops - I could move just fine barefoot or in sneakers, but not flipflops- and pulled my now dry curly hair into a huge messy bun on the top of my head before stretching. While I was shorter and much curvier than any other wolves I'd seen, I knew I was very fast and stronger and more powerful than the humans I'd been up against and couldn't wait to show off a little bit for once.
When the doctor said go, I took off fast, my powerful legs propelling me forward. I ran quickly through the tires and cones, and pulled myself up the rope and over the high wall easily before jumping down the 20 feet and landing nimbly on the ball of my feet. I easily tossed the 20 pound kettle bells and landed them almost perfectly in the bullseyes before crawling quickly under the wire. I popped up quickly, and dashed over the balance beam, my small feet making easy work of it. The next part was hurtles and I loved the long jump. I quickly launched myself over several of them at a time, almost tipping the last one with my foot before it righted itself.
Finally I came to the weights. I had to move five 100 pound weights from one pole to the other. I crouched down, grabbing 3 of the weights and lifting them off before walking steadily to the other pole and placing them down. I repeated it with the last 2 before dusting off my hands and turning towards the doctor.
The doctor looked at me in surprise before scribbling notes on her chart. The doctor continued to write as I approached her and finally closed the chart.
"Ok, there's a small room right there where you can change. There's a peddle on the inside and outside of the door to open it. Go shift and meet me at the other field," Dr. Malone said.
I walked towards the little shed but spared a glance over my shoulder to my father and the dean, who were in deep conversation, and my brother who had jointed them at some point. He was smiling wide at me and gave me a thumbs up. My father glanced my way, a frown marking his brow.
Well whatever, I thought. I told him this was a stupid idea. I'll never be like his precious princess so he should just get that out of his mind.
I undressed quickly, once again stuffing my items in my bag before shifting. The peddles were a genius idea and made opening the doors more simple. I trotted out and shook out my long fur, once again enjoying the feel of the wind. I felt them all staring at me and I bristled and stiffened my stance. I didn't really care what they thought. I had already figured out that most werewolves were a lot bigger than me, as I was only about the size of a grown wild wolf. But I felt my size was an advantage and bet that more people would continue to underestimate me because of it.
I sat down next to the doctor and waiting for instruction. Just like with the first ones, the doctor walked me through the course of tunnels and tires, tree logs, weighted dumbies, more huddles and finally a large attack dummy that was set up to measure the force of my body and my bite.
I crouched low at the starting line, wiggling my butt slightly to let the doctor know I was ready. I flattened my ears to my head and took off like a bullet, soaring through the obstacles even faster as they were no challenge for my wolf form. I didn't slow down as I approached the dummy, hitting it with the full force of my front feet and knocking it down before clamping my jaws around its neck, holding it down for a few seconds. I released the dummy and sat down, waiting for the doctor. Once Dr. Malone started writing down in her chart, I returned to the shed and shifted back, putting my clothes on and heading over to join the group, chatting along the sidelines. I could feel them watching me as I approached, a feeling of unease settling in. I was so ready to be done with this and go get something to eat, maybe start on one of the books I had picked up last week. I had always loved to read.
"Are we done here?" I asked. My father's frown deepened.
"No," the doctor replied. "We need to go see the results of the blood test and make sure we don't have any follow up tests to conduct."
I sighed. I was starving, having had a very small breakfast, well at least small by these new werewolf standards. My stomach had been getting used to be full again.
My brother was the first to notice and said, "How about we meet you guys back at the clinic? I'm starving and I'm sure Azalea is as well. We'll grab something quick to eat and bring it back with us."
Azalea He grabbed my hand and practically dragged me off the field towards the cafeteria. After a few moments of shock passed, I jerked my hand away from his, causing him to stop and glance back at me. "Firstly, I'm not 4, you don't have to hold my hand and second... thanks," I said, rolling my neck a little. "You can call me Az. My mom does." He laughed a little and replied, "Lead the way, Az." I started walking again and he fell in step with me. I could tell he was bursting with questions and as we opened the door to the cafeteria, I said, "Ask. I can tell. Just ask." He blushed a little, clearly embarassed. "You and your wolf are pretty bad ass for being kinda small. Where did your coloring come from? I've never seen a red wolf or a silver one, let alone one with both. I do dig the purple curls though," he said, tugging lightly on one. I laughed at him, swatting his hand away as we walked over to the counter where full sized sandwiches on french bread were laid out
Azalea After he left I decided to grab a shower and a nap. I was mentally and physically exhausted. I woke up hours later and realized it was well past dusk. I glanced at my phone and saw it was almost 9pm. I hoped they would still have dinner warm so I hurriedly threw on a hoodie over my tank top and capris and slid my feet into a pair of wedges before hurrying to the cafeteria. Tonight was Mexican, one of my favorites, and luckily it was still warm. i loaded up some to go containers and grabbed a soda before heading back to my room. There I grabbed a flashlight and a towel and headed back to the roof. I loved being up there at night as it was quiet and peaceful. I ate dinner and quietly sang along to my favorite tunes. I must have fallen asleep again at some point and woke up to the sun not quite creeping up the horizon. I checked the time on my phone - I still had plenty of time for breakfast and figured I'd see what the cafeteria had to offer. I went quickly back to
AzaleaI walked over to the cafeteria, checking the time on my phone. I realized I had a message and wondered who would be messaging me. It was from #1Brother and I laughed a little. He sent me a message that just said You got this with a thumbs up emoji. I sent him a smiley face back and walked into the cafeteria. I wasn't paying attention and bumped into another body. "Watch where you're going mutt," a rude, high pitched voice said before pushing me away. I stumbled back, mumbling a quick "I'm sorry" before looking up and seeing it was my sister."Stay away from me and mine or you'll regret it," She said, stomping off. She looked exactly like your typical high school prep girl - cute little polo shirt with short khaki shorts and bubble gum pink sneakers that matched her shirt. Ugh, I thought. Just what I needed. Like I wasn't already on the bitch list. There were more people in here today, with the new students that had completed their testing already around, as well as
Azalea Cora explained that we may get wierd looks now because usually they each stayed to their own floor and I just shrugged. "I don't really care. They're all staring at me anyways," I said as I pushed the door open to the dorms. Luckily the stairs were only a few doors down from my room and I could see the boxes waiting outside my room. We grabbed them and took them inside. We chatted away while I opened boxes and began puting things away. Cora loved my new shoe collection and we agreed to swap some books as we finished them. Then I offered to take Cora to my secret place. I gathered up the remaining boxes and had Cora grab some drinks from the fridge before we quietly made our way up to the roof. "Are you allowed up here?" Cora asked, stepping out gingerly. "Well it was unlocked and nobody has said anything all week about it. I don't like enclosed spaces a lot and up here is open and beautiful," I replied. I quickly put everything together and set out the 2 chairs
Azalea I turned and jogged over to the cafeteria, noticing that it was now packed, the volume raising way about a comfortable level. I spotted Cora and waved, heading over to her. "Let's eat outside at the picnic tables. It's too loud in here," Cora said. I nodded in agreement and we broke off to get our lunches. Malorie was right - I was starving. I loaded up my tray with 2 sandwiches, a salad loaded with my favorites, a rare steak, a fruit salad and a large piece of Chocolate cake. Then I grabbed 3 juices and a water before walking out of the cafeteria, looking around for Cora at the picnic tables. I spotted Cora's pink hair and headed over, finally placing down my heavy tray on the table. "Missed breakfast, huh?" Cora asked laughing at the amount of food on my tray. I laughed too. "Sorta. Plus food wasn't this consistent and definately not this good. And now with all these classes and stuff I just need the extra fuel." I ate, happily listening to Cora prattle on abou
John I sat just outside the main chambers waiting for them to call us in. Dr. Malone, and Greg, the Dean for the prep academy sat with me. We had to report what we had found with my daughter and her abilities now that we had caught her and tested her. I was a little nervous - I loved the girl even though she did her best to frustrate me at every turn. I couldn't necessarily blame her for that. She was unusual and predictable, which in our world was not usually good thing. But she was also smart, headstrong and determined and I suspected a true leader. "The High Council will see you now," the page said, opening the doors and ushering us in. We stood and together walked in. The High Council members sat in seats arranged in a semi circle around the room allowingthem a full view of the center. The High Council was made up of members from all of the different supes and were selected from the Elders of different packs and covens sent to represent their race. I had only been before
Azalea I woke at dawn again and went to meet my 2 teachers, once again walking through the same exercises as yesterday, getting through them quickly without me throwing things across the room. "Now we're going to switch it up today. I want you to think about your power and feel it connecting to the air around you," Clarissa said. "Good. Now feel how nice and warm it is. Ok. So cold air is just air moving at a slower speed right? So think about slowing the air around you down." I focused on her words, my eyes closed tight. I was thinking so hard and nothing was happening. They kept pushing me for what felt like hours and nothing was happening. Finally my frustration hit a breaking point and I yelled "Enough!" When my eyes popped open I could see the air literally frozen with both ladies looking at me thoughtfully. "Shit, sorry," I said and released the breath I was holding. When I did the air was released as well and began to return to normal quickly. "You have to lea
Azalea It took us awhile since they were on 2 feet instead of the 4 feet I had been on, but the time passes quickly as we chatted about everything from boys to clothes and music. Finally I could hear the sound of fast running water and smell the dampness and we began to pick up our pace. "Finally," Cassie said, looking up to the top of the waterfall. "It's so pretty here! I can't believe it didn't even know it was here." We set up our picnic area around the pool at the bottom of the falls where a small patch of sunlight broke through the trees. We sat there munching down and laughing at Cassie's stories of times at her pack house with all of brothers. Cora and Celia each only had one sibling and I was raised like an only child so it was great getting to hear the crazy things they did. I told them all about the cities I'd been to and they asked a ton about what it was like around regular humans. "Alright. I am going for a swim now. That water is calling my name," I said,
