Testing

The nurse came in and quickly drew the blood before doing all the normal doctor stuff- height, weight, blood preasure, etc.  Then Dr. Malone returned and asked me about my first shift - what it was like and verified my age.

"Ok," the doctor said, "I'm going to close the curtain and I want you to go ahead and shift.  I'm going to time you so let me know when you start and come out when you're done."

I quickly got undressed, placing my cothes on the table before calling out to the doctor.  Less than a minute later I peaked my snout out from behind the curtain and actually startled the doctor.

"That was fast, under a minute," Dr. Malone said, writing on the chart in her hands.  "I'm going to open the curtain so we can get some measurements on you."

I stepped aside gingerly, not liking the feel of cold tile under my paws.  The doctor frowned at me and reached out to ruffle my fur.

"You have very unusual coloring for a wolf and are a little on the small side.  Has your wolf always been this size or has it grown with you?"

I shrugged as best I could in this form, not really sure how to answer.  The doctor took a few more measurements before telling me to shift back and get dressed.  She closed the curtain and I did as she asked.  I told her that I had been that size since I shifted and my human form hadn't grown any taller since then either.

Once dressed, I followed Dr. Malone out and we joined my father and the dean before heading out to the fields that were set up like an obstacle course.  One field was set up like a human obstacle course and the other looked like the ones they set up for the Westminster dog show except bigger with more complex obstacles.  I looked over to the doctor and raised a brow in question.

The doctor smiled and said, "I know, but it allows ups to test your agility, strength and speed in both forms.  let's start with the human one first."  The doctor headed to the left field, leaving my father and the dean standing between the two fields.

The doctor explained what I needed to do for each obstable and  in what order before returning to the starting line.  I kicked off my flip flops - I could move just fine barefoot or in sneakers, but not flipflops- and pulled my now dry curly hair into a huge messy bun on the top of my head before stretching.  While I was shorter and much curvier than any other wolves I'd seen, I knew I was very fast and stronger and more powerful than the humans I'd been up against and couldn't wait to show off a little bit for once.

When the doctor said go, I took off fast, my powerful legs propelling me forward.  I ran quickly through the tires and cones, and pulled myself up the rope and over the high wall easily before jumping down the 20 feet and landing nimbly on the ball of my feet.  I easily tossed the 20 pound kettle bells and landed them almost perfectly in the bullseyes before crawling quickly under the wire.  I popped up quickly, and dashed over the balance beam, my small feet making easy work of it.  The next part was hurtles and I loved the long jump.  I quickly launched myself over several of them at a time, almost tipping the last one with my foot before it righted itself.

Finally I came to the weights.  I had to move five 100 pound weights from one pole to the other.  I crouched down, grabbing 3 of the weights and lifting them off before walking steadily to the other pole and placing them down.  I repeated it with the last 2 before dusting off my hands and turning towards the doctor.

The doctor looked at me in surprise before scribbling notes on her chart.  The doctor continued to write as I approached her and finally closed the chart.

"Ok, there's a small room right there where you can change.  There's a peddle on the inside and outside of the door to open it.  Go shift and meet me at the other field," Dr. Malone said.

I walked towards the little shed but spared a glance over my shoulder to my father and the dean, who were in deep conversation, and my brother who had jointed them at some point.  He was smiling wide at me and gave me a thumbs up.  My father glanced my way, a frown marking his brow.

Well whatever, I thought.  I told him this was a stupid idea.  I'll never be like his precious princess so he should just get that out of his mind.

I undressed quickly, once again stuffing my items in my bag before shifting.  The peddles were a genius idea and made opening the doors more simple.  I trotted out and shook out my long fur, once again enjoying the feel of the wind.  I felt them all staring at me and I bristled and stiffened my stance.  I didn't really care what they thought. I had already figured out that most werewolves were a lot bigger than me, as I was only about the size of a grown wild wolf.  But I felt my size was an advantage and bet that more people would continue to underestimate me because of it.

I sat down next to the doctor and waiting for instruction.  Just like with the first ones, the doctor walked me through the course of tunnels and tires, tree logs, weighted dumbies, more huddles and finally a large attack dummy that was set up to measure the force of my body and my bite.

I crouched low at the starting line, wiggling my butt slightly to let the doctor know I was ready.  I flattened my ears to my head and took off like a bullet, soaring through the obstacles even faster as they were no challenge for my wolf form.  I didn't slow down as I approached the dummy, hitting it with the full force of my front feet and knocking it down before clamping my jaws around its neck, holding it down for a few seconds.  I released the dummy and sat down, waiting for the doctor.  Once Dr. Malone started writing down in her chart, I returned to the shed and shifted back, putting my clothes on and heading over to join the group, chatting along the sidelines.  I could feel them watching me as I approached, a feeling of unease settling in.  I was so ready to be done with this and go get something to eat, maybe start on one of the books I had picked up last week. I had always loved to read.

"Are we done here?" I asked.  My father's frown deepened.

"No," the doctor replied.  "We need to go see the results of the blood test and make sure we don't have any follow up tests to conduct."

I sighed.  I was starving, having had a very small breakfast, well at least small by these new werewolf standards. My stomach had been getting used to be full again.

My brother was the first to notice and said, "How about we meet you guys back at the clinic? I'm starving and I'm sure Azalea is as well.  We'll grab something quick to eat and bring it back with us."
