Azalea
After he left I decided to grab a shower and a nap. I was mentally and physically exhausted. I woke up hours later and realized it was well past dusk. I glanced at my phone and saw it was almost 9pm. I hoped they would still have dinner warm so I hurriedly threw on a hoodie over my tank top and capris and slid my feet into a pair of wedges before hurrying to the cafeteria. Tonight was Mexican, one of my favorites, and luckily it was still warm. i loaded up some to go containers and grabbed a soda before heading back to my room. There I grabbed a flashlight and a towel and headed back to the roof.
I loved being up there at night as it was quiet and peaceful. I ate dinner and quietly sang along to my favorite tunes. I must have fallen asleep again at some point and woke up to the sun not quite creeping up the horizon. I checked the time on my phone - I still had plenty of time for breakfast and figured I'd see what the cafeteria had to offer.
I went quickly back to my room and changed into a cute shortsleeve jumper and another pair of wedges. After I pulled my curly hair back and styled it, I grabbed my bag and rushed down to the cafeteria. There I found a whole breakfast buffet of goodies and decided on buttermilk pancakes, eggs and bacon. I downed 2 orange juices and grabbed a water before heading off to the dean's office.
I opened the door and his secretary greeted me. "you're right on time. Go on in."
I knocked on his office door then opened it, peaking in.
"Come on in my dear. Ladies, this is Azalea. Azalea, this is Melodie and Clarissa. They're going to take you to the mages room so they can figure out your particular powers and assist you with managing them."
The two ladies sized me up in the same way I was doing with them. They were both taller than me, but not by much and that's where their similarities ended. One was pale and had short black hair with piercing blue eyes. She was older and you could see the crows feet around her eyes. Her slender build led to a very serious personality vibe.
While the other was more rounded with long brown hair braided around her head. Her round face had laugh lines and bright grey eyes. Her curiousity was shining through. I was less nervous of her than I was of the other.
"Lead the way, ladies," I said, just wanting to get this over with.
"Before you go, here's your schedule. Please remember that this stays between us for now. The next few days you'll spend with them as they work out your powers and you'll start your schedule next week. If you need anything, today I'll be tied up with the new students arrivals, but other than that you know where to find me," the dean said, smiling.
"Yes sir," I replied saluting cheekily before following the ladies out of the building.
"You'll meet with us first thing in the mornings. This will help keep your cover as most of the witch and fae classes are held later in the day and early evening. Where we are going is magically protected so your magic won't spill out until you learn to control it," Clarissa, the rounder one said.
"Today we're going to see if we can test what your affinity is - the dean told us a little about picking locks and about dropping the temperature so we'll explore those first. Now we'll start here. Open the lock on the door," Malorie said, her tone as icy as her personality.
So I did. She placed her hand over the lock and closed her eyes.
"What are you doing?" The icy tone cuting through her concentration.
My eyes popped open and I replied, " I'm trying to open the lock. I close my eyes and visualize it. I've taken apart hundreds of locks and door knobs before so I sort of understand how they work. I visualize the inside of it and think about the tublers falling into place and bam it opens."
"Hmm. Go ahead then," Malorie replied.
I turned back to the lock and closed my eyes, once again focusing. A few seconds passed and the lock clicks open. I smiled and looked at Malorie, only to recieve another frown in return.
Good lord this is going to be a long year, I thought to myself.
Once we were settled inside of what looked like a big dome with seats off to one side, Clarissa explained that they were going to do an element test on me. This would show them which element or elements that I had an affinity for and allow them to narrow down the rest of the tests today.
They put a bowl of water, a rock, a feather and a lit candle in front if me and told me to close my eyes and place my hand above each item. I would then steady my breathing and see if I could "feel" the items they way I "felt" the lock.
I felt silly doing this, but proceeded anyways. When I finished, I looked over to them expectantly.
"Air," Clarissa said happily. "That's actually pretty rare, but makes sense with what you've done. Now let's see what you've got."
They ran me through different power exercises - if I could open locks then I should be able to pick things up as well as open other things. I did fine with the light items - especially for someone who hadn't practiced before- but I couldn't open other things like jar lids and couldn't lift anything more than 5 pounds.
I was getting frustrated with their badgering.
"If you can pick a lock then all of the rest of this is easy. You can see this. It's just up and down."
And still they continued until I couldn't take it anymore.
"Stop," I yelled and the air dropped so low I could see my breath.
"Then stop acting like a petulant child and lift the weight," Malorie said snidely.
I flung my hand out in frustration and the entire weight set flew across the room.
"OK. Sit down now," Clarissa told me, handing me a bottle of water. I was still a little shocked and the temperature was quickly returning to normal.
"You have to learn how to channel the energy that gives you power. You let it leak out to open locks, but then keep it tucked back so tightly that when you get mad, the leash snaps. Your power is just like your wolf, its a full part of you. It flows in your veins continuously. This week we'll work on some meditation that will help you learn the flow of magic in your body so you are bettle able to control it. Can you do any of that in your wolf form?" Clarissa asked.
"I honestly don't know. I haven't tried before," I replied. "It had never crossed my mind to even try."
"Ok I'm sure you're probably starving as you've expended a lot of energy. They are probably still serviing lunch now so go fill up and rest. Tomorrow the other students will begin to arrive. Meet us here at dawn," Malorie said, ushering me out the door. I turned, surprised at the concern that she was showing me.
"
AzaleaI walked over to the cafeteria, checking the time on my phone. I realized I had a message and wondered who would be messaging me. It was from #1Brother and I laughed a little. He sent me a message that just said You got this with a thumbs up emoji. I sent him a smiley face back and walked into the cafeteria. I wasn't paying attention and bumped into another body. "Watch where you're going mutt," a rude, high pitched voice said before pushing me away. I stumbled back, mumbling a quick "I'm sorry" before looking up and seeing it was my sister."Stay away from me and mine or you'll regret it," She said, stomping off. She looked exactly like your typical high school prep girl - cute little polo shirt with short khaki shorts and bubble gum pink sneakers that matched her shirt. Ugh, I thought. Just what I needed. Like I wasn't already on the bitch list. There were more people in here today, with the new students that had completed their testing already around, as well as
Azalea Cora explained that we may get wierd looks now because usually they each stayed to their own floor and I just shrugged. "I don't really care. They're all staring at me anyways," I said as I pushed the door open to the dorms. Luckily the stairs were only a few doors down from my room and I could see the boxes waiting outside my room. We grabbed them and took them inside. We chatted away while I opened boxes and began puting things away. Cora loved my new shoe collection and we agreed to swap some books as we finished them. Then I offered to take Cora to my secret place. I gathered up the remaining boxes and had Cora grab some drinks from the fridge before we quietly made our way up to the roof. "Are you allowed up here?" Cora asked, stepping out gingerly. "Well it was unlocked and nobody has said anything all week about it. I don't like enclosed spaces a lot and up here is open and beautiful," I replied. I quickly put everything together and set out the 2 chairs
Azalea I turned and jogged over to the cafeteria, noticing that it was now packed, the volume raising way about a comfortable level. I spotted Cora and waved, heading over to her. "Let's eat outside at the picnic tables. It's too loud in here," Cora said. I nodded in agreement and we broke off to get our lunches. Malorie was right - I was starving. I loaded up my tray with 2 sandwiches, a salad loaded with my favorites, a rare steak, a fruit salad and a large piece of Chocolate cake. Then I grabbed 3 juices and a water before walking out of the cafeteria, looking around for Cora at the picnic tables. I spotted Cora's pink hair and headed over, finally placing down my heavy tray on the table. "Missed breakfast, huh?" Cora asked laughing at the amount of food on my tray. I laughed too. "Sorta. Plus food wasn't this consistent and definately not this good. And now with all these classes and stuff I just need the extra fuel." I ate, happily listening to Cora prattle on abou
John I sat just outside the main chambers waiting for them to call us in. Dr. Malone, and Greg, the Dean for the prep academy sat with me. We had to report what we had found with my daughter and her abilities now that we had caught her and tested her. I was a little nervous - I loved the girl even though she did her best to frustrate me at every turn. I couldn't necessarily blame her for that. She was unusual and predictable, which in our world was not usually good thing. But she was also smart, headstrong and determined and I suspected a true leader. "The High Council will see you now," the page said, opening the doors and ushering us in. We stood and together walked in. The High Council members sat in seats arranged in a semi circle around the room allowingthem a full view of the center. The High Council was made up of members from all of the different supes and were selected from the Elders of different packs and covens sent to represent their race. I had only been before
Azalea I woke at dawn again and went to meet my 2 teachers, once again walking through the same exercises as yesterday, getting through them quickly without me throwing things across the room. "Now we're going to switch it up today. I want you to think about your power and feel it connecting to the air around you," Clarissa said. "Good. Now feel how nice and warm it is. Ok. So cold air is just air moving at a slower speed right? So think about slowing the air around you down." I focused on her words, my eyes closed tight. I was thinking so hard and nothing was happening. They kept pushing me for what felt like hours and nothing was happening. Finally my frustration hit a breaking point and I yelled "Enough!" When my eyes popped open I could see the air literally frozen with both ladies looking at me thoughtfully. "Shit, sorry," I said and released the breath I was holding. When I did the air was released as well and began to return to normal quickly. "You have to lea
Azalea It took us awhile since they were on 2 feet instead of the 4 feet I had been on, but the time passes quickly as we chatted about everything from boys to clothes and music. Finally I could hear the sound of fast running water and smell the dampness and we began to pick up our pace. "Finally," Cassie said, looking up to the top of the waterfall. "It's so pretty here! I can't believe it didn't even know it was here." We set up our picnic area around the pool at the bottom of the falls where a small patch of sunlight broke through the trees. We sat there munching down and laughing at Cassie's stories of times at her pack house with all of brothers. Cora and Celia each only had one sibling and I was raised like an only child so it was great getting to hear the crazy things they did. I told them all about the cities I'd been to and they asked a ton about what it was like around regular humans. "Alright. I am going for a swim now. That water is calling my name," I said,
Azalea I woke the next day, excited and a little nervous. This was going to be my first dance. I shook my head, feeling a little silly for being nervous. This was going to be the first time I was going to get to check out the boys at this school and at the Alpha Academy. My bet was that most of them would be too young for my taste, but it would be fun to flirt. And it might piss my sister off more too, which was always a good thing. The girls had told me yesterday about a few of the boys to avoid because they'd get handsy. I ran down and got breakfast, seeing few shifters than I expected down there. I ate breakfast on the roof, once again looking over the songs in fae. Since the bathroom was empty when I headed back down, I took a nice long shower, taking extra care with adding lotion and brushing my hair out. I had agreed on having an upswept hairstyle for me to show off my dress so after I brushed it I placed it in a bun for later. Cassie was finally awake and we chatt
Azalea The doors were already opened and we stepped inside, still laughing about my joke. The music was definately loud and you could see people everywhere dancing and joking and talking. But as we moved into the room and through the crowd, all eyes were on us. It made me a little nervous but Cassie strolled through like it was nothing. We were half way through the room on the way to the tables set at the back when I heard my brother behind us. "Dad is going to have a stoke." I turned and smiled at him. "No shit Sherlock. And where is princess Barbie tonight?" I asked him. "She's over there with her friends. I can't wait for her to see you. She's going to shit a brick. I didn't know you had tatoos. Where is the rest of your dress?" Taylor asked me, stepping closer so he didn't need to yell over the music. I laughed and said "Breathe brother. Damn. It is really that big of a deal? I thought the girls were just exaggerating. And this is all of my dress. Don't you lik
