AhsokaI feel bad I didn’t say goodbye to James today, but I am too worried father will know what happened at school. I haven’t been at school for even a week and someone already found out about the bruises. I cross my fingers that Nico doesn’t say anything. I get inside the house and begin getting dinner situated. I hear the front door slam shut letting me know he is not in a good mood. He must know.“Hello angel. Did anyone notice your bruise?” I don’t know if this a trick or not but I decide to lie since I know he will hit me anyway if he knows.“Good. I am proud of you. I have something for you.” He hands me a small bag. I slowly open the gift he has given me and find it’s a book on angels. I am slightly confused at his gift, but sign thank you to him anyway.“Angel’s are a gift from heaven and being that you are one, I figured you should learn about who you are.”I know he calls me angel but I question his sanity if he believes angels are real. I see his eyes narrow and I look
AhsokaMy eyes go wide and I am frozen in fear. Right in front of my face is a wolf. He has golden eyes and reddish brown fur. He is huge compared to typical wolves. My heart is racing, but begins to relax as I stare into his eyes. I have no idea why, but I have a feeling he won’t hurt me. His eyes are soft rather than menacing. The wolf sits and then lowers it’s head onto my lap. Okay, I guess I have befriended a wolf. I hesitantly reach out my hand and pat his head. He moves his head up towards my hand and I flinch, pulling my hand back. The wolf whimpers and puts his head back down. I don’t know why but I decide to sign to him.“This has to be the weirdest day for me.” The wolf lifts his head to gaze at me and I feel like he is actually understanding what I am signing to him. “Okay and now I am having a one sided conversation with the wolf.” I smile at him and he licks my face.“Um, lets not do any licking.” The wolf nudges my stomach and I wince. He whimpers at me and I lift my
NicoThe house is extremely tidy and there doesn’t seem to be any family pictures on the wall. It’s like this house jumped out of a magazine or something. I sniff the air and catch Ahsoka’s floral scent leading to her bedroom. Her room is bare, I don’t find anything personal about her in the room. Her clothes are neatly hung up, her shoes are in a perfect row and her bed is made with no wrinkles. This house is making me uncomfortable. I leave her room and sniff again. There is a strange damp scent in the air that I can’t place. It’s almost putrid. I’ll have to ask dad about it. The smell is coming from her father’s room and it’s definitely strongest in here. I snap out of my investigation as I hear the bus pull up down the road. I hop out the window I came in and lay by the tree we were at yesterday. My heart flutters as I see Ahsoka smiling and heading straight for me. She drops her bag and plops right next to me. “Hey big guys,” she signs. I nuzzle her neck making her giggle. Damn
Ahsoka I check my watch and frown. We still have an hour left of school, which means I’m stuck here until the busses get here. I grab my back and head out to the bus line, sitting on a bench until the bus gets here. I feel a tap on my shoulder that makes me jump and I turn to see Nadia.“Hey,” she signs with a smile. I smile back and wave at her. She sits next to me with a huge grin.“So there is this bonfire in the forest that the seniors are throwing this Saturday night. Wanna crash it with me?”“I shouldn’t, my father would be very unhappy if I snuck out and I don’t want to be the third wheel with you and Jayden.”“Don’t worry, Natasha is coming and so is Nico. The boys will hang out and us girls will hang out. Please come?” She is giving me puppy dog eyes and it makes me giggle. Father’s note did say he wouldn’t return until Sunday evening so he would never know if I went. I have never done something behind my father’s back and he would for sure kill me if I ever got caught. “S
NicoI make my way to my couch and I go through her file. She is a straight A student taking advanced classes since the seventh grade. I wonder why she hasn’t graduated early. She must have the credits to do so at this point. All her school pictures are here. She starts off with bright eyes that appear happy and full of life, but over time her smile has faded and the brightness is gone from her eyes. I can see her sadness in her eyes from her last picture. There really isn’t much more than that so I toss the file on the coffee table and make my way to the bathroom. I need to get to bed. I can’t believe I’m going to the dumb bonfire where the boys get drunk and the girls get slutty.“Our mate is not slutty,” Ace argues.“I wasn’t adding her to that category Ace.”“Better not or I’ll kick your ass.”“We’re in the same body stupid.”“I’ll still kick your ass.” “Go to sleep Ace. We will see her again tomorrow.”Ace curls up in the back of my mind and I feel him fall asleep. I do that sa
AhsokaAs soon as I reach the porch the door flies open. I can smell the alcohol on his breath. He looks past me at Nico and then glares daggers at me. He grabs me by my arm, dragging me inside and slamming the door shut. I stand in the middle of the foyer watching him pace back and forth. He turns towards me and back hands me, causing me to fall to the ground. I cower against the back of the couch, my hand to my cheek. “I thought I’d surprise you by coming home early but I come home to an empty house. Where were you!”My hands shake as I sign that I was at a bonfire. He make me stand by pulling on my hair, putting his face in mine. He backs away from me and points at the front door.“Who was that boy you were just with.”“Just a boy from school who offered me a ride home.”He chucks his glass across the room. It shatters, sending glass flying all over the floor. He grabs me by the throat and shoves me against the wall.“You are mine, no one is going to take you from me.”He shoves m
AhsokaI knew I should’ve have left for the bonfire. I’ve never seen him so furious. He beat me harder than ever before despite the gunshot wound to my shoulder. My shoulder is killing me and I am bleeding all over my sheets. I carefully get out of the bed and go sit by the window, pulling out my razor blade. I hesitate for a moment before cutting into my thigh. I do my best to stop the bleeding and get some rest. I don’t know how I am going to stitch myself back from this one. The next morning I groan from the invading sunlight in my room. I slowly sit up and look down at my shoulder, but see there is no gunshot wound. I fling my blankets off and find my leg is fully healed as if I never had a cut mark. Did I dream the whole thing? I hope not, I liked having my wolf around. I look at my clock and find that is two o’clock in the afternoon. I panic and rush out my bedroom door only to find my father, a woman and a cop in the living room.“Hey angel. This is Mary from children service
Nico “You will not allow Ace around her again until we can sort all this out. We will find a way to get her out of there without having the police down our necks. We don’t draw unnecessary attention to this pack and you know this,” dad orders. “We will keep an eye on her Nico. We will find the evidence we need to get her out of there,” says mom.“If this was your mate dad what would you do?!” I can see him struggle to answer me because he would do exactly what I want to do.“That’s what I thought.”I storm out of the room and out the front door. I shift, taking off into the forest. I head straight for her house, but stay hidden in the trees. I can’t go any farther even if I wanted to thanks to dad’s order. Max comes up next to me as I settle in to watch her.“It’s been calm today. Her father hasn’t come out of his room except for dinner. Ahsoka has been drawing on that easel since she cleaned up dinner.”I focus on what it is she is drawing and I realize it’s Ace. I can’t help but
