Captured

Evelyn's POV

I didn't know where I was going.

I had been walking for what felt like hours, but I hadn't stopped once. My legs were beginning to ache, yet I couldn't bring myself to slow down.

All I could think about was my mother and father and the fact that they were dead. I still couldn't believe it.

Every time I closed my eyes, I saw their bodies lying there. I could still hear my mother's voice telling me to run.

I looked at the card my mom had given me. It was already creased from being held for too long.

I didn't understand why she had sent me there. I didn't even know what was waiting for me.

She had sounded terrified. And my mother had never been afraid of anything before.

I pulled my jacket tighter around myself as the cold wind blew against my face.

The road was almost empty, with only a few houses scattered in the distance. I had no idea where I was, and for the first time since leaving home, I wondered if I had made a mistake.

Maybe if I hadn't left that night, they wouldn't be dead right now.

I wanted to turn back, but there was nothing to go back to.

I swallowed hard and continued walking.

I looked around for a payphone. I needed to call someone who would listen to me and be there for me.

I saw one in the corner of the street and hurried over to it. I dialed Theo's number and waited for him to pick up.

“Hello, Theo!” I screamed immediately after he picked up.

“Oh my God, Evelyn!” Theo shouted on the phone. “What happened? I saw the news and I've been searching for you.”

“Theo…” I burst into tears. My hands were trembling, and my chest ached from the pain. “I... don't know what to do. I'm lost with nowhere to go.”

“Okay... where are you?”

“I don't know... I don't know, Theo.” My voice cracked. “I've been walking, and I don't know where I am.”

“Okay... calm down, Eve.”

“I can't! I don't know where I am, and it's getting dark.”

“Listen to me, Evelyn. Look around you and tell me what you see on any signboard or poster.”

I looked around. I was beginning to shiver from both the cold and fear. My mom had told me to run, and I had done just that.

Now I was lost.

I saw a signboard right under the streetlight.

WILLOW STREET.

“Eve, are you there?” Theo called from the other side.

“Yes... there's a signboard here with Willow Street written on it.”

“Oh my God! How did you get there?” Theo exclaimed. “That's a long way from town, Eve.”

“I don't know how I got here.” Tears streamed down my face. “My mom asked me to run, and I did just that. Now I don't know where I am.”

“Okay, don't you worry. I'll come to you now.”

“What if they find me?”

“Who? What are you talking about, Eve?”

“I don't know. Those guys who killed my parents. What if they find me?"

“You just calm down. I'll be with you soon,” he said, and the call went off.

I stared at the phone for a few seconds before slowly placing it back.

Theo was coming.

I wiped my tears and stepped away from the payphone. It was getting darker.

I hugged myself as another cold breeze passed through me.

Then I heard a rustling sound behind me.

I froze.

My heart began to beat faster.

“Theo?”

I slowly turned around, but there was nobody there.

Maybe it was just the wind.

I took a few steps forward.

Then I heard it again.

This time, it was closer.

I turned around quickly.

“Who's there?”

I started walking faster.

Footsteps followed.

Someone was following me.

I didn't wait to find out who it was.

I ran.

The footsteps behind me grew faster.

“No...” I whispered.

They had found me.

The same people who killed my parents had found me.

I ran as fast as my legs could carry me, but something suddenly grabbed my arm.

I screamed.

“Let me go!”

I struggled violently, trying to pull myself free.

“Get off me!”

Another pair of hands grabbed me from behind.

I kicked and screamed, but they were too strong.

“Please! Don't kill me!”

I fought harder, tears filling my eyes.

“You killed my parents!” I screamed.

One of the men grabbed my arm and pulled me forward.

“Let me go!”

“Keep moving.”

I looked around desperately, hoping someone would see me, but the street was empty.

They dragged me toward a waiting car.

“No! Please!”

Nobody listened.

I was pushed into the back seat, and one of the men got in beside me.

The car sped away.

I pressed myself against the door, staring out the window as the familiar streets disappeared behind us.

“Where are you taking me?”

No one answered.

l

After what felt like hours, the car finally slowed down.

I looked outside.

A huge gate stood in front of us. Beyond it was an enormous estate surrounded by tall walls.

The gate opened, and the car drove through.

My heart pounded heavily.

I had no idea where I was.

****

The moment I stepped into the hall, I noticed a few men standing around. They looked just like the men who had brought me here.

One of them forced me to my knees.

I looked around in confusion.

“Where am I?”

Nobody answered.

Then I heard footsteps coming from the other end of the hall.

The men around me immediately straightened.

I looked toward the entrance.

A man walked into the hall.

The moment the scouts saw him, they bowed their heads.

“Alpha.”

My eyes moved back to the man.

He was tall and broad-shouldered, and there was something about the way he walked that made the entire room feel different.

He simply walked toward me.

I felt my heart begin to pound.

There was something about him that scared me.

I had never seen him before, yet the moment our eyes met, an unfamiliar fear ran through me.

He stopped in front of me and stared down at me.

His eyes moved over my face as if he was trying to make sure I was the person he had been looking for.

“Evelyn Crane?”

My heart dropped.

How did he know my name?

Prisoner Kieran's POVThe dungeon beneath Blackthorn was cold and damp, the air thick with the smell of blood and rust.Kieran Rodriguez stood before the prisoner chained to the wall, his expression unreadable.Leon, a Drakon warrior, had been discovered injured near the old road by a Blackthorn patrol. When he had attempted to flee, the patrol had subdued him and brought him back for questioning. Now, he sat with his head bowed, blood staining his torn shirt."Do you know who I am?" Kieran asked.Leon raised his head, managing a bitter smile despite his injuries."The great Alpha of Blackthorn.""Good. Then you should understand that lying to me would be a foolish decision.""I have nothing to tell you."Kieran stepped closer."Your warriors have been spotted near my borders. One of them has disappeared, and now you're found bleeding in my territory. What exactly is Drakon planning?"Leon remained silent.Kieran's jaw tightened. He had little patience for games, especially when anot

The Alpha of Drakon Rafael's POV"Tell me you're joking."Rafael didn't look up from the documents on his desk."I don't repeat myself, Drake ."His Beta stood before him, his expression dark with disbelief."You're planning to send our warriors into Blackthorn territory to retrieve a girl we've barely managed to locate? Kieran has already increased his border patrols. If his men catch our warriors crossing the boundary, he'll consider it an act of war."Rafael finally raised his eyes."Then perhaps his men should learn to mind their own business."Drake exhaled sharply. "This isn't a game, Rafael.""Do I look like I'm playing?"Silence settled over the office.Rafael leaned back in his chair, studying his Beta. Drake had served him for years and understood that once Rafael made a decision, changing his mind was rarely an option.Still, Drake was one of the few people who dared challenge him when he believed he was making a mistake. And right now, he clearly did."Six of our warriors

Gathering Storm Kieran's POV The moment Evelyn Crane left my office, I knew she would be trouble. Not because she had questioned me. I had dealt with people far more dangerous than a grieving eighteen-year-old girl. It was her determination that bothered me. She wanted answers, and judging by the look in her eyes, she wouldn't stop until she got them. I returned to the report on my desk, but the words refused to hold my attention. Rafael wants her. Mrs. Crane's warning had troubled me long before Evelyn appeared at my door. Now, after speaking to the girl herself, I was no closer to understanding why the Alpha of Drakon would take an interest in someone who had spent her entire life believing she was human. There was something about her story that didn't add up. And I intended to find out what it was. A knock sounded at the door. "Come in." Derek entered, his usual amusement replaced by a serious expression. A folded report was clutched in his hand. "We have a problem."

A Dangerous Challenge Evelyn's POV I walked behind the two scouts, my heart pounding against my chest. Why would the Alpha suddenly summon me? Was I in trouble? Was he planning to send me away from the pack or, worse, force me to shift? There were so many questions I wanted to ask him, so many things I needed answers to. But the thought of standing before Kieran Rodriguez in his office made my stomach twist.I had to keep my fear hidden. The last thing I wanted was to give him another reason to look down on me.One of the scouts glanced over his shoulder and glared at me, clearly displeased with how far behind I'd fallen. I quickly lengthened my stride to catch up.We stopped outside the Alpha's office. The scout who had glared at me straightened before knocking three times."We've brought Miss Crane, Alpha," he announced."Send her in."The deep, authoritative voice came from inside. The scout opened the door and gestured for me to enter.I stared at him, then mouthed, "Alone?"I c

A Softer Side of Blackthorn. Evelyn’s POV I watched Valeria disappear through the dining hall doors, but the uneasy feeling she had left behind refused to disappear with her. Why had she been staring at me like that? I barely knew anyone in Blackthorn, yet I had already managed to attract the attention of the Alpha’s mistress. I couldn't decide whether that was a good thing or a terrible one. “Don't let her get to you,” Marina said beside me. I sat down and shifted my gaze to the table. “I just…” Marina collected the empty plates from the table. “Valeria is just like that. She likes making sure people know who she is.” “And who exactly is she?” Marina breathed out. “The Alpha's mistress. She's been with him for a while, and she doesn't appreciate anyone who threatens her position.” I frowned. “But I'm not threatening anything. I don't even know the man.” “That's what makes this complicated.” She gave me a small, apologetic smile. “Sometimes, people decide they dislike you

An Unwelcome Presence Evelyn's POV“Evelyn…”I felt a hand gently brush against my hair.My eyes opened, and for a moment, I saw my mother sitting beside me, smiling as she stroked my head.“Wake up, sweetheart.”I reached for her.“Mom…”But she disappeared the moment my fingers touched her.I stared at the unfamiliar ceiling, my heart pounding. Then I remembered where I was.Blackthorn Pack. The training. The crowd. Kieran Rodriguez. And my mother.A sharp ache filled my chest as I squeezed my eyes shut. I could still remember her final words, the fear in her eyes, and the blood staining her clothes.Run, Evelyn.I had done as she told me, but what was I supposed to do now? My parents were dead, their killers were still out there, and I had no idea why my mother had sent me to this place. All I had was a card bearing the name of a pack I knew nothing about and an Alpha who seemed to regard me as a nuisance.I needed answers.“Evelyn?”I turned to find Marina sitting beside my bed.
