Violet's pov

I sunk my teeth deep into the hand that clasped my mouth.

"Arrrg..." The huge figure hovering over me groaned in pain.

I blinked my eyes steadily, eventually meeting the gold eyes that stared right back at me.

His gold eyes darkened with something unreadable.

Fury and lust.

My eyes widened in alarm, and I cringed in fright, waiting for Alpha Xaden's hand to clamp down on me.

Instead, he patted my hair down, and used his knuckles to straighten the lines across my face.

"You scared me, Violet." He whispered into my hair, hugging me close.

"Um...Umm," I stuttered.

"I thought you died." He growled. "I'm sorry for not coming sooner." He grounds out, rocking me in his arms.

"Mama..." I began, my breath caught.

"I found my mother." I finally let out.

I felt him stiffen before he hissed, "Did you now?"

"Yes. She was in the cottage behind the garden. She said she was my mother."

Silence...

And then,

"She's your mother, sweet." He said, moving his body a little.

"How?" I asked, as

Violet's povA baby? Or did I hear wrong."A baby?" I whispered again."Yes." Mama answered, hugging me tightly. "You're expecting, child."My eyes glistened with unshed tears as a certain level of excitement welled up inside of me."Is he aware?" I asked softly."No." Mama said brusquely."Good. I don't want him to find out just yet. I want to keep it from him." I said. They nodded in acquiescence.I felt a sudden burst of energy that had been lost for the past weeks.A child?I was going to be a mother?Xaden's child. The thought filled me with so much joy and pleasure that I grabbed the soup bowl from Rose's hands and started eating. They stared at me in amazement. I suddenly had a huge appetite for more food and requested for more.I was going to be a mother.I was going to shield my child. It's no wonder I've been feeling dizzy and nauseated for the past two months. I remember Xaden noticing how my breast were bigger than the first time we made love.First time we made love...

  • The Alpha’s chosen one    CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE

Violet's povThe rage I felt in the past few days was channeled to my new hobby--- tending the garden. The garden became my healing spot and Mama's cottage, my safe space. The flowers in the garden looked so appealing that I'm sometimes afraid to touch them because I'm afraid to scar or bruise them. They are so delicate they remind me of myself.I've resigned my heart to the fact that Xaden was no longer mine. He no longer looked at me, smiled at me or even came to our bed chamber. So I moved all my things back into the room I first arrived in when I first came to live here. Sure enough, soon after I moved, Xaden and Mira took over the spot. I stopped eating in the breakfast room too.I could see the sympathy on Danya and all the other servants' faces. I felt so pitiable and useless that I contemplated leaving the castle. However, Mama would not have it. She was so persistent that she insisted that if I left, I'm no daughter of hers. She was

  • The Alpha’s chosen one    CHAPTER THIRTY FOUR

Violet’s POVI didn’t even know why my legs had carried me to his office. After what he did to me yesterday, I Shouldn't be here. But here I was...Somewhere inside me--- beneath all the bruises, all the bitter silences, all the cold mornings--- I still believed that something in Xaden might be worth saving. That maybe, if I walked in and reminded him of who we were… of who he used to be… he might look at me and come to his senses. But gods, I was wrong. So very wrong. The moment I pushed open that door and saw her, sprawled across his lap like some crowned victory, all breath left my lungs. It didn't creep away--- it collapsed out of me like dying stars. My legs gave way under me.My heart didn’t shatter. No, it ripped--- like parchment set aflame. He saw me. His eyes met mine. And still, he did not stop.He looked me in the eyes and kept going, pounding her li

  • The Alpha’s chosen one    CHAPTER THIRTY THREE

Xaden's povWhat the hell was wrong with me? Why did I do that to Violet for gods sake?I used my hand to wash over my face as I recalled the terrifying look that glistened her face when I ripped her dress.I didn't know what came over me. But whatever it was, I truly had no power over it.I've been hearing the muffled whispers amongst the servants, villagers and even pack members since I started avoiding Violet. If anyone asked me why I was avoiding her, I would have no answer to give. Only that she reeks of something unsuitable to the eyes and my sense of smell. Somehow, that girl--- Mira, seemed more attractive and appealing than my own wife.Lately, with violet, I felt muffled. As if someone had wrapped around a duvet around my mind, numbing everything just enough to doubt everything we've ever shared and have. To make me doubt what had naturally come as instinct. And I just couldn't help it. I find myself falling helplessly, deeper and deeper into something unidentifiable.Once

Violet's pov“Did he give a name?” I asked icily.“No, my lady. Just said he must speak to either you or Alpha Xaden.” Danya retorted.I stood, heart racing now. I remembered Xaden telling me about the village head meeting and their need for a village chief--- but if they could send a messenger all the way here, it could only mean nothing has been resolved. Not unless it concerned me. Or the pack.I followed Danya quickly through the hall, past the servants and the guards who bowed stiffly. When I reached the main courtyard, I saw Xavier already walking towards me.Just then, I saw Xaden striding towards the gate, his face hard.He looked tired. His shoulders were tense beneath his dark tunic, and his eyes had the same haunted look I’d seen too many times recently. But even through the fatigue, my heart still stuttered at the sight of him.Goodness, I loved him.But something was diff

  • The Alpha’s chosen one    CHAPTER THIRTY ONE

Violet's pov"Ain't you insensitive to ask her that?" Xaden's sudden appearance in the tea room and his loud rebuke kept ringing in my ears.Everywhere had been quiet immediately he challenged me with that question. The smirk across Mira's face was intolerable and the frown that graced Mama's face was enough to speak volumes."What are you doing here?" I had asked him. However, he turned to Mira and asked her if she would like to walk with him.Walk with him?Wasn't he making a mistake?Well, so I thought until he took Mira's hand in his and left the tea room. The silence lingered long, even after their departure from the tea room. It followed me around like a ghost as I made my way through the hall of the castle, to return to our bed chamber in solace. It echoed loudly with every step I took. Not even the clinking of teacups or the rustle of skirt could drown it.What had possessed me to ask Mira that question? Why was I feeling like something was about to be snatched from my grasp?
