Chapter 1

Lena woke up to the buzzing sound of her phone. It has been ringing nonstop, until she stretched her arm on the wooden cabinet beside her bed, and grabbed the phone. She had slept late the previous night and that made her too weak and reluctant to leave the bed.Without looking at the phone, she answered the call and dropped it beside her ear. “Hello?” “Lena, are you still on bed?” a female voice spoke , and she immediately recognized the caller.“Oh Trina, it’s you.” She said, in what looks like a mumble.“Of course it’s me. It’s past 7 already, why are you still on bed?”Lena had to force herself to sit up before responding to her. “I know it’s past 7. What do you expect that I should be doing? I mean, I was up all night, refreshing my email over and over, and looking out for other job opportunities. Babe, I need this rest.” “That, I’m afraid of, my friend. Your resting days are over…. “ Trina said, holding back the rest of her statement. She sounded like she was bearing a good...

Chapter 2
Mr. Peter halted when he heard her calling and running towards him. He stood just few meters from the elevator. “Good morning sir. My name is Lena sir. I got the mail sir.” She spoke, nervously. “Oh you did. So what does it say?” “Approved sir.” “Be specific young lady, what was approved?” Mr. Peter seemed to be in a hurry to return back to his office, like he had some unfinished business to attend to and that made him respond to Lena swiftly. “It’s the Job application sir.” “Oh you’re the one who has been sending us articles we didn’t ask for. “ he said, forcing a smile. Lena couldn’t help but to return a smile too, and said “Yes , I am. It has always been my dream to work here sir and I thought I had to do something to get your attention sir.” “Well, that really got my attention. Well done! Some of the articles you sent cannot be published though, because they don’t have tangible proof to back them up, but they were really good.” “Thank you sir.” “Follow me.” Lena l

Chapter 3
The young man she saw was not alone. He was accompanied by 5 other men; all dressed in black suit, with dark shades and wired communication devices attached to their ears. They were his personal body guards.“Welcome Mr. Ethan, your room is available sir.” The receptionist said, and handed him the access card to his room. He wasn’t talking to Lena when he first spoke.“Good, when my business associates arrives, you know what to do.”“Yes sir, I do.” She responded, with a smile. “Alright.”“Enjoy your stay with us sir.” She added, still maintaining a bright smile. Lena and the lady watched as Ethan and his men took the elevator to the floor where his room was.“Wow, that was Mr. Ethan?” Lena asked, but wasn’t expecting an answer, as she was saying to herself. “He looks more handsome in person than the picture of him I saw” she quickly brought out her iPad, to confirm if he was really the same person she saw on Wikipedia. She had done a research to know about him.. “Oh, that isn’t M

Chapter 4
Ethan is a complicated figure, with a reputation for being reclusive and eccentric. He’s a brilliant businessman and visionary, but he’s also emotionally closed off and prone to sudden mood swings. “Meeting starts in 30 minutes, get yourself filled up.” He said to his guards. “Yes sir.” They responded and walked out of the room, one by one Lena hands were already shaking, that she almost dropped the cup she was holding. “I’m so sorry. My name is Lena. I’m just a journalist, and I’d really love to have an interview with you.” She said, amidst her shaky voice and hand. “what made you think I have the time for that? Beside whatever you want to know about me is probably on the internet. “ He grabbed a cup his of coffee and began to sip. “Not all. People have said so many things about you…” Ethan cut in immediately, “Let me guess, I’m a bad person, huh”. “Well, I don’t believe all of that. So I’m here to hear from you.” She stated, this time she wasn’t feeling nervous. “Firs

Chapter 5
Lena sat at the bar, her eyes studying Ethan as he poured himself another glass of whiskey. The dim lighting cast sharp shadows on his face, making him look even more unreadable. She had expected their conversation to be over after their earlier exchange, yet here they were, sitting together again, as if drawn by some invisible force neither of them could resist. He took a slow sip, his jaw tightening ever so slightly. “You asked about my brother.”Lena’s breath hitched. She hadn’t expected him to bring it up so soon. She glanced at the small notebook in her hands, her notes from their brief interaction scribbled in ink. “Let me guess, I’m a bad person, huh?” His words echoed in her mind. He’d said it with a smirk, but there was something beneath it—a challenge, maybe even a hint of self-awareness.“Yes,” she said carefully. “No,you’re not a bad person. But you don’t have to” Lena stuttered, finding it difficult to place her words rightly.“He’s dead.”The bluntness of his words sent

Chapter 6: The Ghost of the Past
The air between them thickened with unspoken tension. Lena watched as Ethan tapped his fingers against the whiskey glass, his gaze distant, as if he was staring at something only he could see.For a man who had built an empire, Ethan looked strangely vulnerable at that moment.“My brother, huh?” he murmured, his voice carrying the weight of something old and unresolved.Lena nodded, heart pounding. “Yes. There’s barely anything about him in the public records. Just a name, and then… nothing.”Ethan let out a dry chuckle, one devoid of humor. “That’s because he doesn’t exist anymore.”Lena frowned. “What do you mean?”Ethan finally turned to her, his blue eyes sharper than before. “I mean, you’re asking about a ghost.”A long silence stretched between them. The bartender refilled his drink, and Ethan downed it in one gulp before speaking again.“He was my twin. My other half, if you believe in that kind of thing.” His voice hardened. “Then one day, he was gone.”Lena’s grip on her pen t

Chapter 7: The Woman in the Shadows
Lena barely had time to process the sharp tension that filled the air before the woman turned her piercing blue gaze toward her.For a moment, neither of them spoke. The silence was thick, dangerous, almost as if something unseen crackled between them. Then, the woman smiled. A slow, calculated curve of her lips.“Well,” she drawled, taking a step closer. “I don’t believe we’ve been introduced.”Ethan remained silent. His body tensed just enough for Lena to notice—like a man preparing for battle.Lena squared her shoulders. “Lena Reyes.”The woman’s gaze flicked over her, assessing. “Ah, the journalist.” Her voice was smooth, perfectly controlled. “I’ve heard about you.”Lena raised a brow. “That’s interesting. I don’t believe I’ve heard about you.”A flash of something, annoyance? amusement?flickered in the woman’s eyes before she extended a hand.“Victoria Caldwell.”The fiancée.Lena ignored the offered hand. “Nice to meet you.”Victoria let out a soft laugh, dropping her hand withou

Later That Night…Lena paced the length of her hotel room, her mind spinning.Something was wrong.Everything about Victoria set off alarms in her head. The way she carried herself, the way she subtly asserted dominance in any situation, the way Ethan-powerful, confident Ethan seemed uneasy around her.Lena pulled out her phone and dialed Trina. It rang twice before her best friend picked up.“Lena? Finally! Do you know how long it’s been since you—”“Trina,” Lena cut in, voice urgent. “I need you to dig into someone for me.”There was a pause.“Uh, okay. Who are we talking about?”“Victoria Caldwell.”Trina let out a low whistle. “As in Victoria Caldwell? The socialite? The woman who’s practically royalty in the business world?”“Yes.”A pause. “Lena… what the hell have you gotten yourself into?”Lena ran a hand through her hair, exhaling. “I don’t know yet. But I need to find out.”“Okay, I’ll see what I can dig up.”Lena hung up and sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the floor.
