ログインElena stared at the message on her phone.
YOUR FATHER IS STILL HIDING THE BIGGEST SECRET.
She read it again, hoping she had misunderstood.
But the name remained the same.
Daniel.
“What's wrong?” Adrian asked.
She handed him the phone.
His expression hardened.
“Who sent this?”
“I don't know.”
Jonathan approached them.
“Daniel Bennett has been involved in this family longer than any of us realised.”
Elena turned towards him.
“Then tell me what you know.”
Jonathan hesitated.
Catherine stepped forward.
“Daniel wasn't simply protecting you. He was protecting someone else.”
“Who?”
Catherine looked at the declaration in Victoria's hands.
“Your mother.”
Elena frowned.
“Margaret?”
“No. The woman who gave birth to you.”
The words struck Elena like a physical blow.
She looked towards Margaret, who had just entered the garden with Samuel's assistant.
“Catherine, stop playing games. Margaret is my mother.”
Catherine shook her head.
“Margaret raised you. But the original hospital records suggest something different.”
Elena's eyes filled with disbelief.
“Are you telling me Margaret isn't my biological mother?”
Before Catherine could answer, Jonathan interrupted.
“We need Daniel here. He's the only person who can confirm what happened.”
---
At the Blackwood mansion, Richard was already reviewing the archive footage.
“Someone entered the archive using Victoria's access code at 8:42 p.m.”
Victoria folded her arms.
“Who else has access to my code?”
“Only the senior security administrator.”
Richard paused the footage.
A man appeared on the screen, wearing a dark coat.
He placed a small object inside the archive cabinet before leaving.
Samuel enlarged the image.
“That's Daniel.”
Richard nodded.
“But look at his hand.”
A silver ring was visible on his finger.
Samuel leaned closer.
“That's not the crown ring he used to wear.”
“No,” Richard replied. “It's the original guardian's seal.”
Victoria's expression changed.
“Daniel has the guardian's seal?”
Richard nodded.
“And if he does, he can open the private archive without triggering the security system.”
Samuel immediately called Elena.
---
Twenty minutes later, Elena and Adrian arrived at the mansion.
Richard showed them the footage.
Elena stared at Daniel's image.
“He came here without telling anyone.”
Samuel pointed towards the object Daniel had placed inside the cabinet.
“We need to know what that is.”
Jonathan examined the recording.
“That's not an ordinary document.”
Catherine stepped closer.
“It's the second agreement.”
Victoria frowned.
“But we already found that document.”
Catherine shook her head.
“You found a copy. The original agreement had another page.”
Adrian looked at her.
“What did it contain?”
Catherine's expression became serious.
“The names of everyone who agreed to keep Elena's identity secret.”
Elena's voice was barely audible.
“My identity?”
Catherine nodded.
“Daniel signed it. Margaret signed it. And one other person.”
“Who?”
Catherine looked towards Jonathan.
“Your biological mother.”
---
A car stopped outside the mansion.
Everyone turned.
Daniel Bennett stepped out.
He looked older and more tired than Elena remembered, but his expression remained composed.
He entered the drawing room without greeting anyone.
His eyes immediately settled on Elena.
“I'm glad you're here.”
Elena stood.
“You have a lot to explain.”
Daniel nodded.
“I know.”
“Did you enter the Blackwood archives?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“To retrieve something before Charles could find it.”
Adrian stepped forward.
“What did you retrieve?”
Daniel placed a small black envelope on the table.
“The original second agreement.”
Catherine reached for it.
Daniel stopped her.
“Not so quickly.”
Catherine frowned.
“You have no authority to withhold that document.”
“I have every reason to. You're the person who helped create the agreement.”
Elena looked between them.
“Can someone please explain what is happening?”
Daniel turned towards her.
“Twenty-one years ago, I made a promise to a woman who was terrified of losing her child.”
Elena swallowed.
“Who was she?”
Daniel's expression softened.
“Your biological mother.”
Margaret, standing near the doorway, lowered her head.
Elena turned towards her.
“You knew?”
Margaret nodded slowly.
“I knew there were things about your birth that I couldn't explain. But I didn't know the whole truth.”
Daniel opened the envelope.
Inside was a photograph of a young woman holding a newborn baby.
Elena picked it up.
She recognised the face.
It was the same woman from the photograph Catherine had shown them earlier.
But there was something written beneath it.
ELENA ROSE VALE — DAUGHTER OF JONATHAN VALE AND AMELIA ROSE VALE.
Elena looked up.
“Amelia?”
Adrian's face changed.
“That can't be right.”
Daniel shook his head.
“The photograph is genuine. But the name written beneath it was added years later.”
Jonathan examined it.
“Then whose child was she holding?”
Daniel looked directly at Elena.
“You.”
Silence followed.
Elena's fingers tightened around the photograph.
“Are you saying Amelia gave birth to me?”
“No,” Daniel replied. “I'm saying Amelia was the woman who carried you out of that hospital.”
Catherine looked alarmed.
“Daniel, you need to stop.”
He ignored her.
“Your biological mother was someone else. Amelia took responsibility for protecting you because she knew Charles would never stop looking for you.”
Adrian stepped closer to Elena.
“Then who is her biological mother?”
Daniel slowly turned towards Margaret.
“That's what I have been trying to protect her from.”
Margaret's eyes filled with tears.
“Daniel, please.”
Elena faced her.
“Tell me.”
Margaret shook her head.
“I can't.”
“Why?”
“Because if I tell you, you may never look at me the same way again.”
Elena's voice broke.
“I'm already beginning to feel like I don't know anyone.”
---
Daniel placed another document on the table.
“This is the final page of the second agreement.”
Adrian picked it up.
The first paragraph described the arrangement made to protect Elena's identity.
The second contained three signatures.
Daniel Bennett.
Margaret Bennett.
And—
CHARLES VALE.
Elena stared at the final name.
“Charles signed an agreement to protect me?”
Daniel nodded.
“He agreed to keep your identity hidden. But he had another condition.”
“What condition?”
Daniel looked at Adrian.
“He wanted Adrian raised as a Blackwood, never knowing the truth about his father.”
Adrian's jaw tightened.
“Charles is my biological father. I already know that.”
Daniel shook his head.
“No. You know he is your biological father. You don't know why he agreed to give you away.”
Before Adrian could respond, Daniel's phone rang.
He answered.
A familiar voice spoke.
“Daniel, I believe you've told them enough.”
Everyone went still.
Charles.
Daniel placed the call on speaker.
Charles continued.
“If you reveal the final page, you'll destroy the only thing keeping this family together.”
Daniel closed his eyes.
“You destroyed this family long before tonight.”
Charles laughed softly.
“Then let me remind you of something.”
A brief silence followed.
Then Charles delivered his warning.
“Ask Margaret what happened to the baby she was supposed to take home twenty-one years ago.”
The call ended.
Elena slowly turned towards Margaret.
“Mom?”
Margaret covered her mouth.
And for the first time, she whispered something Elena had never expected to hear.
“I brought home the wrong baby.”
Adrian stared at the message.DON'T TRUST DANIEL. HE KNOWS WHO THE CHILD IS BECAUSE HE HELPED HIDE HIM.Daniel watched him.“What's wrong?”Adrian turned the phone around.“Richard says you helped hide the fourth child.”Daniel's expression barely changed.“Richard doesn't know what he's talking about.”“Then why is he warning me about you?”“Because he wants to turn you against me.”Elena stepped forward.“Enough. We need the truth, not another argument.”Daniel looked at her.“I've spent years protecting you.”“By lying to me?”“By keeping you alive.”The words silenced her.Margaret moved closer to Daniel.“You knew Isabella?”Daniel nodded.“She was my wife's sister.”“Then why didn't you tell me?”“Because Isabella made me promise never to reveal what happened to her child.”Margaret's eyes filled.“You let me believe she disappeared without explanation.”“She had to.”“Why?”Daniel opened his mouth, but Adrian's phone rang again.Richard.This time Adrian answered and put the ca
Margaret stared at Evelyn.“That's not true.”Evelyn didn't look away.“You know exactly who I'm talking about.”“No, I don't.”“Margaret, please. We've hidden enough.”Margaret shook her head.“I have spent years trying to understand what happened in that hospital. I raised Elena believing she was my daughter. I lost Matthew. I watched Daniel build a life around secrets. But I have never knowingly hidden another child.”Elena stepped closer.“Grandma, who is the fourth child?”Evelyn looked at her.“Someone who grew up believing they had no connection to the Vale family.”“Then tell us their name.”“I can't.”Charles gave a frustrated laugh.“Of course you can't. You appear with another mystery, make accusations, and expect everyone to believe you.”Evelyn turned toward him.“You know more than you're admitting.”“And you know less than you pretend.”Jonathan stepped between them.“Enough. We need to establish what happened before another person gets hurt by these lies.”Adrian picke
Elena couldn't move.Evelyn stood at the entrance, holding the photograph against her chest. For years, the family had searched for her. Some believed she was dead. Others believed she had abandoned them. But she was standing there.Alive.And apparently, carrying another secret.“What do you mean?” Elena finally asked. “What other child did you take?”Evelyn looked around the room.“Before I answer, I need everyone to understand something. The hospital records were not changed to protect one child. They were changed to protect several.”Catherine stepped forward.“You took my daughter.”“I saved your daughter.”“You separated me from her!”Evelyn lowered her eyes.“I know.”Catherine's voice broke.“Do you have any idea what that did to me?”“I do. And I have regretted it every day.”Charles moved closer.“You don't get to return after all these years and pretend you were protecting everyone.”Evelyn looked at him.“You're the last person who should question my decisions.”Charles's
Jonathan didn't move. The message remained on Adrian's phone, its words hanging over the room like a threat.ASK JONATHAN WHO HE BURIED TWENTY YEARS AGO.Elena stared at him.“Who did you bury?”Jonathan looked away.“Someone who should have stayed dead.”Catherine's eyes widened.“Jonathan!”He raised a hand.“Not here.”Charles stepped forward.“No. We're done hiding things. Tell us who was buried.”Jonathan's jaw tightened.“Michael Hayes.”Margaret gasped.Catherine staggered backward.“No,” she whispered. “Michael was alive when I was told he died.”Jonathan nodded.“I know.”Elena looked between them.“Then whose funeral did you attend?”Jonathan took a slow breath.“His brother's.”Adrian frowned.“Margaret just said the man she married wasn't Michael. Are you saying she married his brother?”Jonathan nodded.“Yes.”Margaret shook her head.“That's not what he told me.”“What did he tell you?” Elena asked.Margaret looked confused.“He introduced himself as Michael. He had Mich
The room fell silent.Elena stared at Margaret.“Michael Hayes was your husband?”Margaret nodded slowly.“Before I married Daniel, yes.”Catherine took a step forward.“That isn't possible.”Margaret turned toward her.“I wish it weren't.”“You told me Michael died before I discovered I was pregnant.”“I know what you were told.”Catherine's eyes filled with anger.“Then explain why you were married to him.”Margaret looked down at the photograph in Elena's hands.“Because someone needed to give him a reason to disappear.”Jonathan's expression hardened.“Margaret, be careful.”She ignored him.“Michael was already in danger when I met him. He had discovered something about the original inheritance agreement. Something that could have destroyed the Vale family.”Charles folded his arms.“And you expect us to believe you married him to protect him?”“No,” Margaret replied. “I married him because he asked me to.”Catherine shook her head.“Why would he ask you?”“Because he needed a le
Catherine read the message again.HER FATHER WAS NOT CHARLES VALE.For several seconds, she couldn't speak. Then she looked at Jonathan.“Who was my daughter's father?”Jonathan's expression became guarded.“I thought Charles was.”“So did I,” Catherine replied. “But Evelyn wouldn't have written that unless she knew something.”Adrian examined the photograph.“Could the message be referring to another man?”Richard shook his head.“The photograph was taken years after the child was born. Whoever wrote this wanted Catherine to understand that the truth had been hidden deliberately.”Samuel looked towards Catherine.“Did you have another relationship before Charles?”Catherine hesitated.“There was someone. But I was told he died before I discovered I was pregnant.”Jonathan stepped closer.“Who was he?”Catherine looked at him.“His name was Michael.”The name meant nothing to Elena. But Daniel, who had remained silent near the doorway, suddenly raised his head.“Michael what?”Catheri
