Catherine's words silenced the garden.
Charles stared at her.
“You have no right to speak about that.”
“I have every right. I watched you destroy this family to protect a secret that was never yours to keep.”
Elena looked down at the sealed envelope in her hands.
“Who is his daughter?”
Catherine didn't answer immediately.
Instead, she turned towards Victoria.
“Have you ever wondered why Charles never treated you like a stranger, even when you stood against him?”
Victoria's expression tightened.
“What are you saying?”
Catherine approached her.
“Your birth records were changed. Your mother was told you had died shortly after birth. But you survived.”
Victoria stepped backwards.
“No. Alexander raised me. I belong to the Blackwood family.”
“You were raised by the Blackwoods,” Catherine corrected. “But you were born a Vale.”
A stunned silence followed.
Victoria looked at Charles.
“Is it true?”
Charles said nothing.
“Answer me!”
He finally spoke.
“You were never supposed to discover this.”
Victoria's face went pale.
“I'm your daughter?”
Charles looked away.
“Yes.”
---
Victoria sank onto a nearby bench.
For years, she had questioned why Charles seemed to know so much about her life. Why he appeared whenever the Blackwood family faced a crisis. Why he had always been determined to control the inheritance.
Now she understood.
“You knew I was alive,” she whispered.
Charles approached her.
“I knew.”
“And you watched me grow up believing I was someone else's daughter?”
“I made arrangements to ensure you had a good life.”
Victoria looked at him with disbelief.
“You made arrangements? You erased my mother. You erased my identity. And you call that giving me a good life?”
Catherine interrupted.
“Your mother was Amelia's closest friend. She discovered what Charles intended to do with the original inheritance agreement. When she tried to expose him, he separated you from her.”
Richard looked at Victoria.
“That's why you were always connected to the old Vale records.”
Catherine nodded.
“Victoria was the child Charles wanted to erase because her existence threatened his control of the family.”
Samuel stepped forward.
“Then why didn't you tell her?”
“I tried,” Catherine answered. “But Charles had already arranged for her to be raised away from the Vale family. By the time I found her, she was old enough to have a life of her own. I didn't want to destroy it without proof.”
Victoria wiped her eyes.
“You should have told me.”
“I know.”
---
Charles suddenly laughed.
“You're all acting as though this changes anything.”
Victoria stood.
“It changes everything.”
“No,” Charles replied. “You are still the woman I allowed to inherit a Blackwood name. You have no claim to anything in the Vale family.”
Catherine shook her head.
“That's where you're wrong.”
She opened the envelope Elena was holding and removed a document.
It contained the original declaration of the third heir.
At the top was a statement written in Jonathan's handwriting:
THE THIRD HEIR SHALL BE THE CHILD WHO WAS ERASED FROM THE FAMILY RECORDS, BUT NEVER FROM THE ORIGINAL AGREEMENT.
Below it was a name.
VICTORIA VALE.
Victoria stared at the paper.
“I'm the third heir?”
Catherine nodded.
“You were always the third heir. Jonathan knew your identity before Charles changed the records.”
Jonathan stepped forward.
“I promised your mother that you would never become a prisoner of the Vale inheritance.”
Victoria looked at him.
“Then why did you allow everyone to search for someone else?”
“Because Charles would have found you sooner if your name had remained in the declaration.”
Elena looked at the document again.
“So Lily was never the third heir?”
“No,” Catherine replied. “Charles used Lily's name to distract everyone from Victoria. He wanted the family searching for a child while the real heir stood among them.”
Adrian turned towards Charles.
“And the hospital photograph?”
“Another lie,” Catherine answered. “The labels were deliberately altered to create confusion around the children's identities.”
Elena finally understood why every document seemed to contradict the previous one.
Someone had been changing names, hiding records and moving pieces around the family for decades.
But the truth was still incomplete.
---
Charles suddenly reached for the declaration.
Jonathan blocked him.
“Don't.”
“You have no idea what you're doing,” Charles snapped.
Victoria stepped between them.
“Neither do you. You spent my entire life deciding who I was allowed to be.”
Charles stared at her.
“You would destroy everything I built?”
Victoria held the declaration firmly.
“I don't want your empire. I want the truth about my mother.”
For a moment, Charles looked almost defeated.
Then his expression changed.
“You think Catherine has told you everything?”
Catherine frowned.
“What are you talking about?”
Charles turned towards Elena.
“Ask her why she kept the second page of the declaration hidden.”
Elena looked at Catherine.
“There's another page?”
Catherine remained silent.
Jonathan stepped closer.
“Catherine?”
She finally reached into her handbag and removed a smaller folded paper.
“I didn't want this revealed until Victoria knew who she was.”
She unfolded it.
The second page contained a final instruction:
THE THIRD HEIR MUST NOT CLAIM THE INHERITANCE UNTIL THE FIRST AND SECOND HEIRS AGREE TO STAND BESIDE HER.
Samuel read the words aloud.
“First heir, Samuel. Second heir, Elena.”
Adrian looked at Victoria.
“So she cannot claim it alone.”
Catherine nodded.
“Jonathan wanted the three heirs to decide the future of the family together.”
Victoria looked at Elena.
“I don't want to take anything from you.”
Elena shook her head.
“This was never about taking something from me. It was about discovering the truth.”
---
A phone rang.
It belonged to Richard.
He answered, listened for several seconds, then looked towards Adrian.
“We have a problem.”
“What happened?”
“Someone has entered the Blackwood archives.”
Jonathan immediately turned.
“Who?”
Richard looked at the group.
“The security team says the person used Victoria's access code.”
Victoria frowned.
“I haven't been near the archives.”
Richard checked the latest security image.
His expression changed.
“It's not Victoria.”
He turned the phone towards them.
The photograph showed a man standing inside the archive.
His face was partially hidden, but the ring on his right hand was unmistakable.
The same crown ring Daniel Bennett had worn.
Elena's eyes widened.
“Daniel?”
Before anyone could respond, her phone vibrated.
A message appeared from an unknown number.
ELENA, DON'T TRUST THE DECLARATION. VICTORIA IS NOT THE ONLY CHILD CHARLES ERASED.
A second message followed.
YOUR FATHER IS STILL HIDING THE BIGGEST SECRET.
Elena slowly looked towards Catherine.
“Which father?”
Catherine's expression changed.
And Jonathan whispered:
“Daniel.”
Adrian stared at the message.DON'T TRUST DANIEL. HE KNOWS WHO THE CHILD IS BECAUSE HE HELPED HIDE HIM.Daniel watched him.“What's wrong?”Adrian turned the phone around.“Richard says you helped hide the fourth child.”Daniel's expression barely changed.“Richard doesn't know what he's talking about.”“Then why is he warning me about you?”“Because he wants to turn you against me.”Elena stepped forward.“Enough. We need the truth, not another argument.”Daniel looked at her.“I've spent years protecting you.”“By lying to me?”“By keeping you alive.”The words silenced her.Margaret moved closer to Daniel.“You knew Isabella?”Daniel nodded.“She was my wife's sister.”“Then why didn't you tell me?”“Because Isabella made me promise never to reveal what happened to her child.”Margaret's eyes filled.“You let me believe she disappeared without explanation.”“She had to.”“Why?”Daniel opened his mouth, but Adrian's phone rang again.Richard.This time Adrian answered and put the ca
Margaret stared at Evelyn.“That's not true.”Evelyn didn't look away.“You know exactly who I'm talking about.”“No, I don't.”“Margaret, please. We've hidden enough.”Margaret shook her head.“I have spent years trying to understand what happened in that hospital. I raised Elena believing she was my daughter. I lost Matthew. I watched Daniel build a life around secrets. But I have never knowingly hidden another child.”Elena stepped closer.“Grandma, who is the fourth child?”Evelyn looked at her.“Someone who grew up believing they had no connection to the Vale family.”“Then tell us their name.”“I can't.”Charles gave a frustrated laugh.“Of course you can't. You appear with another mystery, make accusations, and expect everyone to believe you.”Evelyn turned toward him.“You know more than you're admitting.”“And you know less than you pretend.”Jonathan stepped between them.“Enough. We need to establish what happened before another person gets hurt by these lies.”Adrian picke
Elena couldn't move.Evelyn stood at the entrance, holding the photograph against her chest. For years, the family had searched for her. Some believed she was dead. Others believed she had abandoned them. But she was standing there.Alive.And apparently, carrying another secret.“What do you mean?” Elena finally asked. “What other child did you take?”Evelyn looked around the room.“Before I answer, I need everyone to understand something. The hospital records were not changed to protect one child. They were changed to protect several.”Catherine stepped forward.“You took my daughter.”“I saved your daughter.”“You separated me from her!”Evelyn lowered her eyes.“I know.”Catherine's voice broke.“Do you have any idea what that did to me?”“I do. And I have regretted it every day.”Charles moved closer.“You don't get to return after all these years and pretend you were protecting everyone.”Evelyn looked at him.“You're the last person who should question my decisions.”Charles's
Jonathan didn't move. The message remained on Adrian's phone, its words hanging over the room like a threat.ASK JONATHAN WHO HE BURIED TWENTY YEARS AGO.Elena stared at him.“Who did you bury?”Jonathan looked away.“Someone who should have stayed dead.”Catherine's eyes widened.“Jonathan!”He raised a hand.“Not here.”Charles stepped forward.“No. We're done hiding things. Tell us who was buried.”Jonathan's jaw tightened.“Michael Hayes.”Margaret gasped.Catherine staggered backward.“No,” she whispered. “Michael was alive when I was told he died.”Jonathan nodded.“I know.”Elena looked between them.“Then whose funeral did you attend?”Jonathan took a slow breath.“His brother's.”Adrian frowned.“Margaret just said the man she married wasn't Michael. Are you saying she married his brother?”Jonathan nodded.“Yes.”Margaret shook her head.“That's not what he told me.”“What did he tell you?” Elena asked.Margaret looked confused.“He introduced himself as Michael. He had Mich
The room fell silent.Elena stared at Margaret.“Michael Hayes was your husband?”Margaret nodded slowly.“Before I married Daniel, yes.”Catherine took a step forward.“That isn't possible.”Margaret turned toward her.“I wish it weren't.”“You told me Michael died before I discovered I was pregnant.”“I know what you were told.”Catherine's eyes filled with anger.“Then explain why you were married to him.”Margaret looked down at the photograph in Elena's hands.“Because someone needed to give him a reason to disappear.”Jonathan's expression hardened.“Margaret, be careful.”She ignored him.“Michael was already in danger when I met him. He had discovered something about the original inheritance agreement. Something that could have destroyed the Vale family.”Charles folded his arms.“And you expect us to believe you married him to protect him?”“No,” Margaret replied. “I married him because he asked me to.”Catherine shook her head.“Why would he ask you?”“Because he needed a le
Catherine read the message again.HER FATHER WAS NOT CHARLES VALE.For several seconds, she couldn't speak. Then she looked at Jonathan.“Who was my daughter's father?”Jonathan's expression became guarded.“I thought Charles was.”“So did I,” Catherine replied. “But Evelyn wouldn't have written that unless she knew something.”Adrian examined the photograph.“Could the message be referring to another man?”Richard shook his head.“The photograph was taken years after the child was born. Whoever wrote this wanted Catherine to understand that the truth had been hidden deliberately.”Samuel looked towards Catherine.“Did you have another relationship before Charles?”Catherine hesitated.“There was someone. But I was told he died before I discovered I was pregnant.”Jonathan stepped closer.“Who was he?”Catherine looked at him.“His name was Michael.”The name meant nothing to Elena. But Daniel, who had remained silent near the doorway, suddenly raised his head.“Michael what?”Catheri
