Stress.

I guess when God made me, he accidentally poured a whole tanker of stress into my life.

I rubbed the back of my neck as I stared at the message from my asshole best friend.

WILLIAM HARVEY: It's taking longer than I thought. Both of the works.

I swore as I threw the paperweight across the room.

I wiped the sweat off my forehead.

"LILIANA!" I yelled. "LILIANA, GET IN HERE!"

My middle-aged PA hurried in, looking wide-eyed at the shattered paperweight on the floor.

"Why isn't the air conditioner working?" I spat at her.

She looked at me weirdly.

"WHAT?"

"I will get it checked right away, Sir." She said.

"And get one of those paperweights." I waved dismissively at the wet mess on my floor. It was a gift from Olivia when we were first engaged. I didn't know if she had noticed it the last time she had visited, but if she did she would make some other pathetic assumption about the whole situation.

"Of course, Sir." She pick

_____...○ ○ ○ J A C K S O N ○ ○ ○."Whoa! This is one heck of a break." Drew stared up at the massive building in front of us. He turned to Matthews. "I did not know that you had these kinds of clients as well."Matthews gave him a look. "What is that supposed to mean?" he asked.I chuckled as Drew held up his hand in surrender. "No, I didn't mean it in a bad way. I just meant that, wow, you really are out of my league."Matthew gave him a look, not fooled by Drew's slapping words. The man seemed like someone who took his job very seriously. I could really see that this whole reality business was indeed his dream, and he had put in a lot of effort into it. It was sad that it did not go as well as he might have planned it, and I was not kidding when I said that I was willing to help. I was going to help him. He deserved to be helped."Thank you so much for doing this for us, Matthews." I pulled out my business card and gave it to him. "Call me anytime," I said."Oh, just c

It was clear that someone else was also helping them from the outside and they had the key to this place, so there was no use looking for an escape. I was pretty sure that Dad would have hired someone else more experienced to make sure that everything stayed in place. So there was nothing I could think of. But what I could do was snatch Frederick’s phone, which was sitting on the kitchen aisle.“Don’t even think about it.”I froze mid step. I turned on my heels. Anderson was standing there, arms crossed across his chest. He shook his head again. I slumped my shoulders in defeat. We both looked over at Frederick, who was still humming to himself as he went about unpacking.Anderson let out a groan. “Someone could actually break in here and he still wouldn’t notice,” he said.“Well, no one can break in with you here, that’s fo

Finding a decent place, especially in California, is like trying to find needle in the hay. And when you finally do? You are already knee deep in debt with no choice but to stick it out and pray the ceiling doesn’t fall on your head.”Harry and I looked at each other."Kid has a point," Harry said. And I agreed with that too.“So this Matthews. How long has he been working as a realtor?” I asked as we went into the office. There was nobody in sight.“Well, he was one of those door-to-door salespeople at some point. But he told me being a realtor was his goal, his dream. So when he won a lottery - it wasn’t a big amount, but it was enough - he used all that to set up

_____...○ ○ ○ J A C K S O N ○ ○ ○.“Oh, we have customers?” A middle-aged woman, whom I assumed was Drew’s mother, came out of the kitchen, patting her hands dry on a dishcloth.“Uh, no, Mom,” Drew said sheepishly. “They are here to look for something in our security camera footage.”His mother’s face dropped. “Oh,” she said. “What are you looking for?”“Um… It’s just.... We are looking for somebody who stole something from us,” Harry shrugged. He looked around, his eyes landing on the huge menu board on the wall. “Oh, um… Can I have some of your noodles, maybe? I am not particularly skilled at selecting Chinese - never have been. I would love to try the chef’s special,” he said as he flashed her his annoyingly charming smile which is supposed to disarm the toughest of shields. Drew’s mother’s face lit up immediately. “Of course, of course! Drew, show them the footage. Meanwhile, I will make you my best duck noodle soup. It is my signature dish!”"That would be amazing.

_______...○ ○ ○ J A C K S O N ○ ○ ○."Why the hell are we all idiots?" Harry asked as we watched the hacker one of my private investigators was acquainted with in California try to track down Olivia's phone. "Why couldn't we put some trackers on you guys so that none of you would go missing?" "Well, nobody expected Thomas to actually kidnap her." I said. That was not true. And Harry knew it as well.As soon as we found out about Thomas' interest in getting Olivia to be the pawn in his game, we should have guessed that he would go to any lengths to get what he wanted. "Here." Eric, the hacker, tapped at the screen. "This was the last coordinates where her phone was on. It was switched off there." "What are the odds that we would find Olivia or some clue that would lead us to her in that place?" Harry asked.Eric turned around and shrugged. "Little to nil. I don't think any seasoned kidnapper would be stupid enough to hide the hostage somewhere around the place where he

____...○ ○ ○ O L I V I A ○ ○ ○.I did not know why I thought that everything would go back to normal when I woke up in the morning. I was actually counting on the kidnapping being a dream. But the next day -well, I do not exactly know if it is the next day because I am not able to say the time. But when I finally woke up, presumably in the morning, I was still in the well-furnished but sterile room.I was glad that they had all the essentials in the bathroom so I did my morning ablutions and set out. The locked room was still locked. Or at least it looked as it was.I walked to the living room."What time is it?" I asked Frederick when I found him seated on the living room couch.Frederick looked up at me and then at the TV. "It's half past eleven. You slept for a long time," he said.I nodded. "I guess I did."Frederick got off the couch and stretched."What do you want for breakfast?" he asked. "Would you like some pancakes or do you want some waffles?"I shook my
