LOGIN“You’ll be my wife until I secure the inheritance. After that, we walk away from each other. Don’t worry—I’ll make sure you get your fair share.” — Walter Robles Desperate to earn a little more, Samantha agreed to her boss Walter’s unusual offer—to pretend as his girlfriend during a family event. It was supposed to be just for a day. Nothing more, nothing less. But everything changed when Walter accepted the condition his family had set: No marriage, no inheritance. Since she had something to get from the deal, Samantha agreed once again. But this time, she wasn’t stepping in as a pretend girlfriend—she was signing up to be his wife. But what happens when the lines start to blur? When emotions they shouldn’t be feeling begin to grow? When their act finally ends, what will they choose—to walk away as planned, or to hold on to something real they never meant to build?

I had just finished arranging the documents my boss needed to sign. Stretching my back, I pressed a hand against the ache. It was barely early morning, yet he’d already dumped a full day’s worth of work on me. I was about to sit down when the door swung open, revealing the one man who never failed to ruin my day—Walter Robles, my boss. He was the CEO of Sirak Wines, a well-known distillery famous for turning local fruits, like duhat, into premium wine. He walked in wearing a dark blue coat over a crisp white long-sleeved shirt tucked neatly into matching dark blue pants. I’ll give him this—he was handsome. With that sharp jawline, the thin line of stubble framing it, those deep black eyes under thick brows, and lips permanently pressed like he’d been holding back emotions all his life. His hair was just the right length, brushed cleanly back. “Must be nice to just sit around,” he muttered as he headed to his seat. And there it was . . . his attitude that his handsome face could not make up for. Sit around? My backside hadn’t even touched the sofa and he was already accusing me of doing nothing? I shut my eyes and inhaled deeply. A second later, I made my way to his desk. Every time he sat on that swivel chair and I was forced to stand in front of him, I secretly prayed that the heavy wooden shelf behind him, displaying all those wine bottles, would collapse right on his head. He quickly signed the documents while I stood there watching. “Allow me to remind you, Sir. Your meeting with Mr. Verzosa is at three in the afternoon,” I calmly said and forced a smile. He simply nodded and continued signing. Every now and then, he’d glance up at me and chuckle. I only rolled my eyes whenever he wasn’t looking. He really knew how to get under my skin. “You look like a lady guard,” he said in a dead-serious tone, lifting his gaze once more. So now I looked like a security guard because I was standing in front of him. But if I stayed sitting on my couch, he’d say I wasn’t doing anything. After his last signature, he let out a dramatic sigh as if he were the exhausted one. He slid the stack of papers toward me before leaning back in his swivel chair. I took the documents to return them to their respective departments. I was just about to turn around when he suddenly leaned forward, elbows on the desk. “Before I forget, I’d like to make you an offer.” His brows danced up and down, and a smile tugged at his lips. I straightened and masked all my irritation behind a bright, customer-service-type smile. “If this is about a salary increase, Sir, I’ll take it.” His smile twisted into a grin—an evil grin that made my heart skip. “You’re right,” he said. “But it comes with a cost.” Everything always did. But if it involves a salary increase? I was willing to take most deals. Most. Preferably not those that will harm my dignity or my soul. “My parents are celebrating their wedding anniversary next week. And since I made them a promise last year, I have to be there—with that promise fulfilled.” He twirled his pen between his fingers. “I need a fake girlfriend. And I’m choosing you.” My eyes went wide, followed by a loud burst of laughter. This man was definitely not normal. “I’m serious,” he insisted, his expression tightening. “You’ll pretend to be my girlfriend for a day. In return, I’ll increase your salary—and pay you for the act.” I was already thinking of other women in the company he could ask, but the moment he mentioned about increasing my salary, I felt my resolve starting to crumble. “Why me?” I asked, pretending to play hard to get. He scoffed. “Because you work closely with me. And because you need the money.” He wasn’t wrong. I did need the money. I could barely think of other reasons why he chose me. Certainly, no woman in her right mind would willingly deal with his problematic attitude. If I had another option, I would’ve resigned ages ago. But I needed the salary—for my father's medicine and my sibling who's still studying. “What?” he snapped when I didn’t answer. “Are you accepting my offer or not?” “I need to think,” I said, lying. Truth is, I just wanted to know how much he planned to pay me. He shook his head. “Five thousand salary increase. And like I said, you’ll be paid separately for our act.” I smiled. “How much?” “Ten thousand,” he replied. Ten? For pretending, socializing, and suffering his personality? I bet he's just fooling me around. “Twenty-five thousand,” I countered. His brows immediately furrowed. Watching him get annoyed was surprisingly satisfying. Finally, a bit of revenge. “That’s too much!” he complained. He took a breath. “Fifteen thousand. Take it or leave it.” I shrugged. I wanted to push him a little more. “I have to go,” I said, turning away—knowing full well he was desperate enough to stop me. “Hell! Twenty thousand.” I smirked at the irritation on his face. That was enough. No need to push him to the edge. My body turned to face him again and I immediately extended my hand. “Deal.”Walter's Point of View“Perfect!” my wardrobe assistant exclaimed after fixing the way my coat sat on my shoulders.I immediately turned away from him and faced the mirror. Truth be told, I didn’t just wear the suit—I became everything its color represented: powerful, confident, unapologetic. But deep inside, I was anxious.I studied myself in the mirror. The burgundy vest and the black fabric underneath looked like they were stitched solely for me, hugging every part of me that needed hugging. Every black button on the vest was fastened like it belonged exactly there. And the burgundy coat? The very definition of perfect. Maybe Sid actually had some use after all, he was the one who helped me choose this suit.My hair was slicked back, my stubble was clean and intentional. I smirked as I tilted my head slightly. People were right. I was handsome.“How about Samantha? Is she done?” I asked the assistant behind me. I could practically see hearts forming in his eyes in the reflection as
Samantha's Point of ViewI couldn’t sleep properly. I’d doze off for a few minutes, then wake up again. It was probably almost eleven, and I should’ve been fast asleep by now so I wouldn’t look exhausted and wrecked tomorrow. But how was I supposed to sleep when Walter clearly had no plans of letting me?God help me. His snoring was atrocious. Even though he was literally on the opposite end of the bed, I could still hear him loud and clear.I think I’ve already tried everything. I covered my ears with my hands, buried my face into the mattress and covered it with a pillow, even pulling the blanket over my head. Maybe I really was cursed today, because I forgot to bring my earphones, the one thing that could’ve saved me from Walter’s monstrous snoring. The bed kept pulling me down, but I forced myself to sit up. I moved to the edge of the soft mattress and glanced at Walter. The room was dim, but I could see his face perfectly. We argued earlier about whether or not to turn off all t
Samantha's Point of ViewI tightened my grip on my matcha green bag before approaching the hotel’s reception desk. Out of instinct, I looked behind me and saw Walter walking toward me, eyes glued to his phone. Clearly texting someone. It was my first time seeing Walter without his usual office attire. And honestly, the casual look suited him more—clean, fresh, and unfairly attractive even from a distance. Today he was wearing an olive green knit, short-sleeved polo tucked into beige trousers secured with a black belt. Miraculously, his pants weren’t tight for once. A silver watch and a silver necklace completed the look. His fairness stood out sharply under the hotel lights.Behind him were the two men who came with us—his drivers. Even if we only used one vehicle, he still brought an extra hand since they carried our things. And thanks to Valerie, I had a decent suitcase with me.“Two room reservations for Mr. Robles,” I told the receptionist with a polite smile. From behind, I felt
Walter's Point of ViewTwo days ago, Conrad had an outburst in my office. He didn’t say it directly, but he made it obvious he wanted me to feel like some egomaniac who takes pride in making terrible decisions.Maybe he was right for calling me out. Or maybe not. The truth is, I don’t care. My attention needs to be on the wedding anniversary celebration happening in two days. Even after all of the preparation, I still have shaking knees. Who wouldn’t be? Samantha already knows we only have a few days left to prepare, yet she still skipped work yesterday. It made me rethink my decision about having her as my fake girlfriend. If there was someone else willing, I wouldn’t ask her.It was an emergency absence. The reason? Of course—her family. I stayed in my office, staring at the digital invitation card Wesley sent me. A few moments later, the door opened. I thought it was Conrad again, especially because I still hadn’t taken any action regarding the terminated deal with Hacienda Oledan.
