Chapter 613

Author: Eli Sole
Shane stuck out his tongue sheepishly, clutching the throw pillow as he fell silent.

Xena let out a sigh, setting the dessert soup aside. “Mom, please don’t say things like that again. I don’t want my baby to enter the Perry family this way.

“Grandpa Perry may be stubborn, but I never wanted anything to happen to him…” Her voice wavered, a hint of tears in her eyes. “More than anything, I wish he could one day accept me for who I am.”

“You silly girl, you’re too kind for your own good.” Mrs. Xander grasped Xena’s hand, her expression filled with sympathy. “After the harsh words Mr. Perry Sr. said that day, anyone else would have given up. But not you. You’re still worried about him.

“I only said those things because I couldn’t stand how he treated you like you were nothing. I was just looking out for you!” Mrs. Xander sighed.

“Besides, if something really happens to Mr. Perry Sr., it’s Layla who will be blamed.” Shane jumped in again, a smug grin spreading across his face. “She wa

As expected, two days later, Xena showed up at Kiera’s door.Standing outside the villa, Xena met Kiera’s calm gaze, and for a brief moment, a sense of unease settled in her chest.“Come in,” Kiera said, stepping aside with a polite gesture of invitation.Xena walked past her with the confidence of someone who had been here countless times—a silent message that she was no stranger to this home.“Aren’t you curious? Don’t you have anything you want to ask me?” Xena settled onto the sofa, crossing her legs with a casual grace, more like the lady of the house than a guest.Kiera feigned innocence. “You may not be a sister-in-law by title, but since you’re carrying Felix’s child, it’s only right for me to treat you with respect.”She raised a hand, signaling a maid. “Bring this lady a warm glass of milk. It’s good for the baby.”Xena’s brows furrowed, and she fixed Kiera with a sharp, probing stare. She had expected Kiera to lose control after seeing the photos from the private inv

The moment Kiera got pregnant, Sean had already made his choice. The day he went to see Mr. Perry Sr., he had completely abandoned Xena. Now, his anger wasn't about defending Mr. Perry Sr. It was because her actions threatened his path to inheriting the Perry family. As long as Mr. Perry Sr. lived, Sean's position was secure. In Sean's world, there was never a question of love or not. Only a matter of calculating benefits.Realizing this, Xena let out a bitter, self-mocking laugh. “I’m such an idiot. How did I fall for you again?”Sean didn’t bother acknowledging her disappointment. His voice was a sharp, icy warning. “You better pray Grandpa survives. If he doesn’t, I won’t let you off either.”“If Kiera hadn’t gotten pregnant, would you have treated me this way?” Xena’s voice trembled.Sean’s hand shot out, gripping her chin so hard it hurt. “If you so much as touch Kiera, you won’t live to regret it.”Hearing his words, Xena’s lips curled into a cold, mocking smile. She stare

Sean’s call shattered Xena’s sleep, leaving her sitting in the dark, clutching her phone with trembling hands. She didn’t even bother turning on the light before frantically dialing another number. It took several tries before someone finally answered. The moment she heard the line connect, she launched into a frantic rant. “Is that so-called ‘Yuna,’ the miracle doctor, your person? Why is she involved in this? Didn’t you promise me everything was foolproof?”“Tsk.”The man’s voice on the other end was full of impatience. “Xena, who gave you the guts to speak to me like that?”“I… I’m just panicking!” Xena’s voice wavered, fear seeping into her tone. “If Grandpa Perry survives, then everything I’ve done will be for nothing…”“I did what you asked. I found someone to take care of it. As for Yuna getting involved, that’s out of my control.”“She used to be your person!” Xena’s panic escalated.“She was. Not anymore.” His tone grew colder. “Frankly, Yuna is worth a lot more than

“Just looking at Dr. Young's reaction, it seems like that expert is really someone significant. If the rumors are true, then Grandpa might actually have a chance!”Kiera's voice was soft and sincere, her eyes full of hope. “Sean, I know I haven’t been married into the Perry family for long, but I can tell that Grandpa values you the most.“Last time at the nursing home, he only acknowledged your child, not your brother’s. That was his way of standing by you. If it weren’t for this incident, I’m sure that once our child is born, Grandpa would hand the entire Perry family over to you.”Sean remained silent, but her words clearly sank in.Seeing this, Kiera leaned in, her voice tinged with concern. “But why did Grandpa have to fall ill at such a critical time? The last time we saw him, he seemed perfectly fine…”Her gentle voice landed like a sledgehammer in Sean’s chest, his mind sinking with a heavy sense of dread.“Yeah… why now?” he murmured, a frightening suspicion taking root

Currently, Mr. Perry Sr.’s condition was so critical that Yuna’s treatment plan was essentially a desperate gamble—a last-ditch effort to save someone who was already fading. But even so, Yuna’s arrival had given Layla a much-needed boost of confidence. It also reignited her determination to deal with Xena.“If we’re certain that the poison affecting Grandpa Perry is something Yuna developed back in her organization, it makes sense why the person responsible was so meticulous and careful,” William said calmly. “The only question now is whether ‘Q’ and that mysterious organization are directly involved or if they’re just taking on a job for Xena.”“That’s a huge difference,” Layla agreed, her expression serious. “But no matter what, Xena went after Grandpa Perry. There’s no way I’m letting her walk away unscathed.“Even if it means going up against that ‘Q’ organization, I’m not afraid.”Yuna hesitated, a flicker of fear crossing her face. Seeing this, William cast her a brief g

Less than half an hour later, Yuna stepped out of the ICU with a blank expression. She walked straight to Levi.“It’s confirmed. It's the same poison,” she said quietly.Levi’s brows furrowed. “Is there any way to save him?”Yuna shook her head, a rare trace of heaviness in her voice. “He’s too old. Even if we had a solution, I’m not sure he’d survive the treatment.”They spoke in low voices, too quiet for anyone beyond a few feet to hear. But the look on their faces said enough. Layla’s last flicker of hope was snuffed out. Her legs wobbled, and she nearly lost her balance, but William was there in an instant, his steady grip on her arm keeping her upright.Farther down the hallway, Wilfred and Felix watched the exchange. They couldn’t hear the conversation, but the somber expressions were clear.Wilfred took a cautious step closer. “So? What’s the situation?”Levi turned, polite but distant. “We’re still discussing a treatment plan. We’ll inform you once we have something.”A

Levi immediately nodded in agreement. “Exactly!”Layla glanced at Levi, noticing how he instinctively leaned closer, looking almost eager to please. So even the usually calm and composed Levi had a bit of a fawning side.As they chatted, the car pulled up to St. North Hospital. In the bustling hallway, Yuna automatically lowered the brim of her hat, her crossbody bag slung over her shoulder. She sauntered casually behind Layla, adopting her usual laid-back, almost indifferent demeanor.Soon, they reached the floor of the ICU. The Perry family was still there, except for Sean. With Mr. Perry Sr. in critical condition, someone had to stay at Perry Corporation to maintain stability and reassure shareholders.Felix, however, wasn’t happy about it.“Dad, why can’t I go? Now’s the perfect time for me to show my presence at the company. How can you let—”“Calm down. Did you forget your position?” Wilfred’s patience was wearing thin. “Instead of going to the company and pretending to be

The plane touched down around noon the next day.As Yuna stepped out of the terminal, she immediately spotted William and the others waiting for her. A smile tugged at her lips without her even realizing it.She had always been a loner, drifting from place to place with no fixed schedule, often disappearing without notice. Being picked up by a group was a new experience for her—one she found oddly refreshing.“Did it really take this many people to pick me up?” she teased as she approached, but the smile on her face gave away her true feelings. The once-awkward girl had grown into a poised young woman, her features now carrying a fresh, vibrant charm.Layla stepped forward with a bouquet in hand, offering it to Yuna with a grin. “You saved my life. Knowing you were coming to North City, how could I not personally welcome you? Otherwise, I’d be heartless.”Yuna accepted the flowers, taking a deep breath of their sweet fragrance. “Not bad. I’m officially someone who receives flower
