LUCAS' POV

I couldn't help the laughter that escaped my lips when Audrey's stomach growled loudly. I couldn't blame her, though; she had been asleep for days and was fed nothing but those saline solutions.

I pulled back as I studied her embarrassed face and she immediately looked away with her face tinted with pink. It was cute and amusing at the same time that I couldn't help but smooch her cheek gently.

“Come on, let's go make you dinner,” I said as I took her hand and she followed behind me shyly while I guided her into the kitchen.

“Sit here, I'll cook something real quick since you're very hungry.” I patted the counter, and she nodded as she tried to get on it, but I immediately lifted her before placing her on the counter.

“I'm not a child.” She mumbled softly, her face flushed in embarrassment and I chuckled softly before placing a soft peck on her lips.

“I know, I'm not treating you like a child. I'm treating you like a princess because you deserve that princess treatment you

Audrey's POVI couldn't shake that night—havoc, fear, and the hope in Lucas's eyes when he vowed to protect me and Aiden. And now, I'm standing before our deserted safehouse, every footstep resounding with what we could possibly lose. My hands still tremble from the adrenaline of war, and Michael's next move is hanging over us.Lucas's voice behind me, deep and persistent: "Audrey, come here."I turn to him, his eyes on mine—firm and empty. His hand closes around mine, and I allow him to pull me against him. "We fought a lot last night, but this isn't over," he whispers. His voice is a voice of urgency, and beneath the urgency, I feel the fear he works so hard to keep hidden.I squeeze him tight, aching in the heart. "I know," I reply softly. "But every time I think of Michael… every time I read his threats, I have this awful feeling that our peace will never belong to us."Lucas grips me tighter. "We will have our peace. We have to.""I have to cling to that, Audrey. I promise you,

ELLA'S POVThe doctor looked right into my eyes, then into that of Luke as I wondered what news he might have to give to us, his eyes were extremely tired but he still managed to let out a smile. My heart beat had a hundred percent increase as I watched every move the doctor made with his body. I never knew I was so good at reading body languages, but I guess situations brought out the hidden talent of people. All my life, I've never held on so tightly to a thread of hope, even when mum died. There wasn't anything to hope for in God because in that situation, she was found dead and I certainly wasn't a crazy person to think I could bring her back to life just by being hopeful or I wasn't Jesus who raised people from the dead, I only was gonna be chasing unto a wild goose. But at this point, Damian still had life in him, and I wasn't gonna give up on that. Not to betray mum, but I certainly would turn out to be a crazy person if anything happened to Damian. I most definitely was gonna

Audrey's POVI ran faster, every second an eternity. I had to decide if I would face this new danger by myself or wait for Lucas. My mind was yelling at me that I was not prepared to deal with any more lies and danger alone. But the message was loud and clear, and the fear of more secrets and betrayal tormented my stomach. The door creaked open. Lucas stood in front of me, dark eyes unflinching. "Audrey," he answered, deep voice insisting on attention, "we must talk."I looked at him, relief sweeping through. "I got a message," I lip-formed, hand extended in offering the screen. Lucas read it quickly, his jaw clenching into a hard line. "The old pier? That's where they used to neck when we were teenagers," he murmured, half to himself. His eyes flashed to mine, burning with determination and possessiveness. "We go together."I hesitated for only a beat before I nodded. "Together," I echoed.Within minutes, we were in my car, racing away from the relative safety of the estate. The engi

Audrey's POVI looked up at Lucas, fear and rebellion knotted in my eyes. With pounding hearts and spirits joined as one, we entered the unknown of the last judgment, to face whatever destiny held in store for us—hand in hand, for whatever price. We stepped into the dark hallway and my cheeks ached with chill. Lucas's grip on my hand was soothing in the middle of the storm of suspicion enveloping us. Hum of equipment in the background and the fitful flash of fluorescent light helped to create a sense of dread foreboding."Stay close to me," Lucas painted, his warm breath on my ear. His guardian instincts reassured me and brought back to mind the danger that lurked. We moved quickly, our footsteps clanging softly off the concrete. The weight of our mission bore down on me. Each step took us deeper into the heart of Michael's operation—a web of deceit and peril. We turned a corner, and the sound of voices closing in caused us to freeze. Lucas pressed his finger over his lips, request

(Audrey's POV)We had narrowly escaped the fortified compound, and now every step was a leap through a tube of fire and uncertainty."Audrey, stop!" Lucas's roar was one of warning and defense as we sped into a narrow service tunnel. My mind was a jumble of fear and crazy love. I couldn't get the message delivered in advance out of my head—"The final reckoning is near." Each phrase was a death anvil, telling me that Michael's threat loomed over us. We emerged into the chilly morning air. The city was shrouded in fog, the skyline faintly visible behind rolling fog. I could sense my heart pounding as we reached the waiting security vehicle. In the small interior, Lucas's eyes never left my eyes. His eyes were firm, with determination and worry.“I trust you, Lucas. But I’m scared.” My voice wavered with raw emotion. “I’m scared of losing you, of losing Aiden… of what Michael might do next.”Lucas pulled me towards him, his mouth inches from my ear. "We're together now, Audrey. I promise

Meanwhile, doors swing outward into a corridor of burning neon lights that seethe with maddened intensity.Lucas's bodyguard had captured a group of men attempting to break into the boardroom. They had masks over their faces, but there was one man with a red tie in his hand—a detail which I'd seen in Michael's reports the last two years.I felt sick. "Lucas, is that you?" I stuttered into the receiver, speaking the words out loud.I received only mumbling answers over the phone. My tears began recalling Lucas's vow to stay with me, and I vowed to myself only that I would fulfill the vow to the very core of my soul. Soft knocking on the door of the safe room persisted. My throat had been grabbed and I pushed my ear into the door, pushed the door. "Who is that?" I shrieked, trembling.Low murmuring, soft breathing, "Audrey, I'm here. Open it."I was shocked and didn't want to open it for her. The voice was soothing, yet it wasn't anyone special—I didn't know who it was. My phone beeped

  • Faking Love, Making War: The CEO’s Dirty Secrets   CHAPTER 160

Audrey's POVI sat on the railing of our penthouse balcony as the city awakened askew under the wan, uncertain dawn. The sharp morning air did little to placate the storm raging within. Lucas had been so firm last night, so firm that he would shield us. Even now, I could not shake the disquieting fear that Michael's promises were far from over with us. I gripped my phone hard, reliving that anonymous text:"The truth is still hidden. Prepare for what comes next."It resonated within my mind like a curse. I could not help but wonder if it signaled another turn, another betrayal lurking just around the bend.Inside, Lucas walked into the room. His footsteps were measured, every sound sharp in the quiet stillness."They inform us that someone was seen outside the hotel last night—someone with a black hoodie. And now we receive new warnings from the estate."I shivered down my spine. "Do you think Michael's men have come back?"Lucas shifted his head slowly. "I don't know, but we must pre

Audrey's POVI sat quietly in our penthouse as the aftershocks of the boardroom battle slowly faded from my mind. The adrenaline high was gone, but my heart thudded angrily against the walls of my chest. The phrases Lucas uttered during the meeting still lingered in my mind, every sentence a mix of pain and protest. I could not shake the threat of Michael as well as the uncertain future that lay in wait for me.I gazed out the window at city lights burning below like false promises. The silence was heavy with my own hope and fear. I didn't know if our love, hard-won, could even shield us from the forces of darkness on the horizon.Lucas entered the room quietly. He sat with me on the old creaky sofa, his hand extended for mine. I felt his heat, comfortable and strong, and all was right in the world for that moment. But that moment was like glass.Audrey, he started, his voice barely above a whisper, "I couldn't help but wonder what Michael had said. I think he's got other ideas for us
