ANMELDENIn the Benson Group headquarters, Mr. Taiye Jackson sat in the front seat of the meeting hall, where they were holding a meeting with the various board members.
He leaned toward his personal assistant and whispered softly, “Introduce the new head to them now.” They sat waiting to meet the newly appointed CEO, whose name had already been announced, though none of the workers had seen him yet. Mr. Taiye Jackson was the former CEO, while his late father, Mr. Benjamin Jackson, had been the first to establish the Benson Group of Companies—originally known as Benjamin and Sons Group of Companies. They were gathered to witness the formal transfer of company leadership to Mr. Taiye’s only son, Liam Jackson. Liam was rumoured to be cold and distant. The workers knew that once he assumed the position of CEO, they would be held to stricter standards. Some had heard Liam was arrogant, stern, and unappreciative, yet he was undeniably hardworking. He had been managing his own private businesses in the States before his father announced his retirement and asked him to return to Nigeria to oversee the multimillion-dollar empire. Liam had initially refused. He saw little appeal in returning to Nigeria, except for his mother—a devout Christian who dressed modestly and never missed church, where she prayed fervently for her husband and their only child. Liam was expected to understand that his mother had endured significant marital difficulties early in her marriage. His paternal grandfather, Mr. Benjamin Jackson, had opposed his son’s union with Mrs. Juliet. Despite numerous women attempting to seduce Mr. Taiye and labelling his mother barren, Mr. Taiye had remained steadfast. He married only her and never engaged in extramarital affairs. Mr. Taiye remained devoted to Mrs. Juliet, standing by her even when his family insisted she would never bear him another child after ten years. His mother had suffered repeated miscarriages, which Liam attributed to her constant fear that his father might leave her for another woman. Only he had survived, and he had recently turned thirty. His mother was now sixty, and his father sixty-eight. Despite his affection for his parents, Liam was furious that his father had deceived him. Mr. Taiye had pretended to be gravely ill, even arranging a fake doctor to call Liam with the news. Upon rushing home from the States, Liam discovered his father hale and hearty, attending business meetings as usual. Angered by the trick, Liam wanted to return to the United States, but his father declined. ------ Inside the headquarters of the Benson Group of Companies—which produced oil manufacturing products, gas equipment, steel, and other essential goods known worldwide—Liam waited in a private room on the second floor. He adjusted his necktie, wearing a long white shirt, plain black trousers, and a black suit laid out on the table. His father had instructed him to be introduced to the various board members and business partners. Liam exhaled heavily and reached for his suit. Just then, his assistant, Brown Anderson—whom his father had assigned on Liam’s first day—knocked on the door. “Come in,” Liam responded. “Boss, it is time for the introduction,” Brown informed him. Liam nodded and donned his black suit properly. As he stepped out, his father’s spokesperson announced to the prominent men and women assembled in the large hall, “Welcome Master Liam Jackson, new CEO of Benson Group of Companies Limited.” The hall erupted in applause as Liam walked to the front and ascended the podium. His father sat in the front row while Mr. Silas Greystone, his father’s assistant, handed him the microphone. “Thank you all for accepting our invitation and witnessing my assumption of the role of CEO of the Benson Group. I ask that we continue to uphold our integrity and work diligently to elevate our company to greater heights of transparency and quality. Thank you for being part of this new chapter,” Liam said. He returned the microphone to Mr. Silas and descended the podium amid renewed applause. Several senior executives rose to shake his hand as he approached his designated seat. After the greetings, Liam sat down. His father, Mr. Taiye Jackson, smiled faintly at him before standing to deliver his own remarks, after which Mr. Silas would close the meeting. “Thank you all for honouring my invitation and witnessing this new beginning under our new CEO—none other than my son, Liam Jackson. I appreciate all our past workers who have laboured tirelessly to uphold our company’s reputation and ensure the transparency that has made us one of Nigeria’s leading producers. I urge both old and new staff, as well as those in retirement, to respect and cooperate with our new CEO and to follow his decisions so that our company may grow globally. As you can see, he has returned from the States to be with us. Thank you once again. Silas, I hand the floor to you to close today’s meeting.” Mr. Taiye returned the microphone to Silas, who outlined the new products and pricing before concluding the session. The guests and staff rose and filed out of the hall. Liam remained behind with his father as the crowd thinned. He stood and approached Mr. Taiye, who was speaking with his friend Mr. John Patrick, one of their trusted managing accountants. “Father, I would like a word with you,” Liam said, hoping his father would finish his conversation. “Okay, son. I will be with you shortly,” Mr. Taiye replied. Mr. John turned to face Liam. “Oh, Master Liam—congratulations on your new position,” Mr. John said with a faint smile. “Thank you, sir. It is an honour to meet you and to work alongside everyone here,” Liam replied. “You can always count on us, Liam. Your father is both my boss and a dear friend. I am delighted to see you stepping into his role. I am confident you will lead us to even greater success than your father and grandfather achieved.” “Thank you, sir,” Liam said, smiling faintly. He appreciated genuine praise, as it motivated him to work harder. “You are welcome, Liam. Mr. Taiye, I must be going. My daughter will be very upset with me for missing her university convocation today, even though she asked her mother and me to attend.” “You know I could not miss your son’s introduction as the new CEO, so I asked her mother and elder brother to represent me. She will surely be annoyed.” “Oh, I am sorry about that, Mr. John. I hope she understands,” Mr. Taiye apologised. “Yes, she will,” Mr. John replied with a nod, preparing to leave. “How about I make amends by introducing her to my son? Perhaps we could even extend our family friendship through marriage. I am sure she would be pleased,” Mr. Taiye proposed. Liam frowned immediately from where he stood beside his father. Women held no interest for him, and he disliked his father attempting to arrange a match with a woman he had never met—simply because Mr. John was a friend. “Oh, thank you, boss, but only if my daughter agrees,” Mr. John said quickly, aware of his daughter’s stubborn nature and unwilling to create tension between himself and his employer. “Why would she refuse? Liam is handsome, and every girl desires him. What did she study at university?” Mr. Taiye asked. Liam’s frown deepened as he looked from his father to Mr. John. He had no intention of being courted into a relationship with a stranger.Liam doesn't say anything as he stands watching the two friends reunite and forgive each other. They finally stand up, and Temisa walks over to see the twin babies in their little baby bed in the living room."Wow, they look so much like Liam, but my baby resembles me more than Alfred," Temisa says, while Anita only smiles at her."It's all good, girlfriend. I wish you both a happy married life, and I will be your bridesmaid on your wedding day," Temisa proposes, and Anita shakes her head."Flora already filled that position. You will only join the train.""Okay, dear. I have to be on my way now. You know I just darted out from the house as soon as Alfred told me about your babies and that you're here with Liam. Take good care of yourself, girlfriend, as you look slim," Temisa says, while Anita nods to her."I will. Let me escort you," Anita feels all the previous heaviness in her heart disappear, and she walks out of the mansion with Temisa. They walk to the garage where Temisa's car
Mrs. Tonia quickly greets Mrs. Juliet, "Good evening, ma'am.""Yes, welcome. Let's go in first," Mrs. Juliet ushers them into her living room. Just then, Mr. Taiye walks in too and sees the visitors, noticing Liam carefully carrying a baby in his arms. He recognizes the familiar lady as his son's secretary and immediately knows the babies are the result of the encounter they had in Liam's office."Good evening, Father," Liam happily greets his father. Mr. Taiye nods to all their greetings, while Anita nervously stares downward, feeling uncomfortable, remembering Mr. Taiye had warned her to stay clear of his son and never show her face in his company again."Mother, here are your grandkids," Liam walks over to meet his mother, who is sitting on the living room couch. He carefully places the baby boy in her arms, and Mrs. Juliet is still in shock as Liam never told her his secretary was pregnant or that he was bringing his babies home.Mr. Taiye is the most confused as he remembers he w
"Are you married?" Liam finally asks, sounding hurt. Anita shakes her head and replies, "No.""Then how come the babies?" Liam asks as he finally saunters over to meet her. He has missed her so much, and he doesn't look himself because of her."Anita," Liam finally approaches her, and she turns to face him, and he sees she's crying."I'm sorry," Anita cries, and Liam crosses the thin line between them and hugs her warmly."It's okay. I've missed you. I do love you," Liam comforts her in a hug, hoping whoever got her pregnant or married her doesn't step in and catch him hugging his wife.Anita wants to pull away from Liam as she inhales his cologne, realizing she's crying into his chest, but Liam hugs her tighter and raises her chin to face him."Don't you miss me?" he asks, and Anita sniffs."I do," she replies."And you don't want to kiss me or welcome me?"Anita finally raises her head properly and looks up at Liam's face.He looks sick too, so unlike him, and his beard is overgrown
Anita doesn't say anything as she watches her mother dress up in a green gown while she breastfeeds her little daughter, who sucks a lot, wanting to drain the remaining energy she has left."I have to go out now and buy everything we will need to eat tonight. There's no food in the kitchen, and I don't want to disturb Mama and her in-law.""Okay, Mom."Anita watches her mother walk out of the room. She carefully places her little girl down and walks to her phone to see all the text messages Liam sent to her. Her heartbeat increases as she unlocks her phone screen. She sees a lot of texts from him and love emojis and she smiles, staggering backward to sit on her bed to read his texts."What happened to you? Your mom said you got discharged from the hospital. Are you alright now? Not to worry, I will be coming down to your village to see you. But why did you shut us all out? I have really missed you. Honestly, I cannot stop thinking about the love we made, and I'm glad your mom finally
Mrs. Tonia pulls away from the mother-to-daughter hug and stares at Anita's face."It's okay, stop crying. Why did you run away, and who did you sleep with?" Mrs. Tonia questions as she walks to look at her grandkids. She stares at the two cute babies who are also awake and staring at her. She gasps in surprise as she isn't mistaken—the babies look so much like Liam, the CEO of Benson Group. She stares back at Anita, who’s also looking at her, and then back at the twin babies in their baby bed."Anita, who got you pregnant?" Mrs. Tonia asks again while Alice finally walks over to hold her hand."We can discuss this at home. Let it rest while we leave the hospital first."Mrs. Tonia sighs and looks from Alice to Anita and back to her grandbabies. They're so cute and fair, and now she knows why the CEO has kept on asking her about Anita. So he's the one that got her daughter pregnant and slept with Anita the very day he delayed her at work and made her return home late.Mrs. Tonia tries
Anita wakes up that evening with a light headache. She sits up in her bed and eats the dinner Alice brought for her from home."How are you feeling now? You need to breastfeed your babies and not starve them," Alice says. Anita finally looks at them as her eyes clear, and seeing one of them crying, Alice speaks to her."She's a girl, while the calm one here is a boy." Alice hands over the baby girl to Anita, who stares at her beautiful daughter's face. Her baby girl looks so much like Liam; even though she's very fair like her, her baby's short curly hair and round cute face resemble Liam so much. Anita's heart skips a beat as she keeps staring at her baby instead of breastfeeding her."Why are you still staring at her? Give her your breast milk" Alice finally yells at Anita, snapping her out of her daze. Anita opens up her shirt and breastfeeds her baby. The little girl in her arms stops crying after a while as she sucks on her breast. As if the second baby is aware, he resumes cryin
Temisa immediately bends and walks back to her car as she feels her heart throbbing loudly in her chest. She bends lower, hiding from them as they stand facing her car and discussing, and she doesn't want to meet any of their gazes, nor raise her head up to them.As she wants to enter her car, just t
Liam stares at Anita's slim, curvy waist, and he feels immediately turned on and wanting to have more of her, but he knows they're in working hours, and he immediately waves the thought away from his mind, not wanting her to have a wrong impression of him."I want to have a word with you," he says as
Mrs. Tonia wipes the corner of her mouth with the dining table serviette, keeps it, and she stands up and walks out of the dining room."Where are you going, Anita?" She asks Anita as she walks to the living room to take a seat on their couch."I'm just going inside, mother," Anita responds, and Mrs.
Alfred stares at the two sexy brunettes approaching him in their black short skirts and blue crop tops. He frowns and pushes their hands away as they touch him, feeling irritated."Another one!" he says to the bartender, noticing the familiar lady he previously saw with Anita standing and staring at
