Ch20 - Hope

Mariane woke up with a heavy feeling. When she opened her eyes, she saw a figure of a man sleeping beside her. His arm was wrapped around her while the other arm served as her pillow. Their faces were only inches away. At first, she got confused about who the guy was. But it came to her realization that it was David.

Mariane suddenly pushed David, making David shocked from falling from the bed. He was about to shout at Mariane in annoyance, but he stopped when he saw the fear on Mariane’s face. He sighed in exasperation and sat next to her.

“I-I’m sorry. I-I did not mean t-to push you… I was just surprised.” Mariane stuttered as she tried to explain what she did to him.

Mariane was trembling in fear as she clasped her hands like she was praying to spare her life from another punishment. She closed her eyes, thinking David would slap her. But she got astounded when David just put the back of his hand on her forehead.
