Chapter 1

Heavy rain pounded against the bulletproof glass of my Long Island estate.

The fireplace burned quietly. I checked the ledger on my desk. Maintenance, private doctors on rotation, and armed guards around the clock. The total came to two hundred grand a month.

The former Don took a bullet to the chest and bled out in the gutter. I took over the empire and every mess he left behind. My soldiers bleed for this family. I refuse to let their widows become targets for our rivals. Every dime comes straight out of my private trust, not the family accounts.

A knock broke the silence. My security chief spoke through the door.

"Boss, time for the summit. The capos and elders are waiting in the great hall."

I locked the ledger in my drawer and went downstairs.

Cigar smoke hung thick in the air. Capos from every district packed the long conference table. At the far end sat a dozen widows, draped in black veils, quiet in the shadows.

I pulled out the high-back chair at the head of the table. I scanned the room.

"Last year's audit is clear. South Port cuts go to your crews as usual."

"Cut the crap, Scarlett."

A cold laugh sliced through the room.

Bianca kicked her chair back. Her dead husband used to run the vanguard crew. She knocked over her wine glass, staining the white linen red, and marched straight toward me. She waved a thick stack of papers in the air.

She ripped the papers apart and threw the shreds right into my face.

"Look at this." Bianca shoved a finger toward my face, her voice shrill. "This is her so-called shelter trust. She cooks the books. She pockets the money our dead husbands bled for. She locks us in this compound with armed guards at the gate. She keeps us out of the business. It's a prison."

Paper scraps settled onto the floor. The hall went dead silent.

The old elders slammed the table.

"Is this true, Scarlett? Our men die in the streets and you treat their bloodline like garbage? Put a woman in charge, and the family burns to the ground."

Whispers spread through the room like fire.

Bianca brought ten veiled women forward, closing in on my seat.

I spotted Gia right in the front.

Last week, loan sharks in Brooklyn took her son. I gave up four bars of pure gold to buy him back. Now, Gia hid behind Bianca. She picked at the strap of her bag and stared at the floor. She refused to meet my eyes.

"Done?" I leaned back against the leather, my voice steady. "Independent auditors clear every dollar. The doctors, the private suites, the food. I pay for all of it with my own money."

"Your money? Stop feeding us lies." Bianca sneered.

She pulled a slab of cold titanium from her coat and slammed it onto the wood.

The master key to South Port's automated freight containers. Her dead husband ran that sector. The crew stashed this spare key before he died.

"Want this back? Fine." Bianca raised her chin, dripping with greed. "Sell this estate. Wire fifty million dollars in cash to the Black Veil Sisterhood. Give us full tax rights on every South Port dock."

She turned to the capos, her voice loud and demanding.

"Scarlett owes us. Give us the docks, or I break this key right now. I will shut South Port down tonight. Nobody gets their shipments."

The elders shifted in their seats. They looked between me and the key, doing the math on their own cuts. Not a single man stood up to stop her.

Treachery. Greed. A knife in the spine at my most critical port. This was what two hundred grand a month bought me.

Any warmth left in me turned to ice.

I did not yell. I did not argue. I drew my ivory-grip Browning and pinned the key to the table.

The hammer clicked back into place.

Bianca stopped breathing.

"Family rule. No asset leaves the boss's hands." I stared into her bloodshot eyes, my voice dropping low. "South Port belongs to Corleone, not your little club. Take your three-grand check and go back to your room. That's your only warning."

The room went dead still. Two younger widows stepped back in fear.

Bianca bit her lip until it turned pale. She looked at the silent elders, pulled a blood-stained petition from her coat, and threw it at my gun.

She locked eyes with me, her threat loud enough for every capo to hear.

"Give us South Port, Scarlett. Or I tell every crew in this city what kind of hypocrite you are. I'll tell them you feast on the blood of dead soldiers."

I looked at the list. Bianca's name sat right at the bottom, exactly as expected. I gave a short nod."Drag her down. Public execution."Dawn broke over the family's central courtyard. A rare crowd packed the open square. Two enforcers dragged Bianca onto the raised platform like a dead dog, pinning her hard against the wooden posts.Dying was too easy. Under family law, living would be her hell.A shrill scream ripped through the air, sharp enough to split stone, before choking off into silence. The blades severed the tendons in both wrists. She would never pull a trigger again. The Chief Enforcer stood before hundreds of crew members, reading the sentence without a trace of emotion."Per intelligence verified on the line, we recovered four million in dirty cash stashed by Bianca. Fully seized by the syndicate. The remaining five million in blood debt stays on her head for life. All privileges revoked. She moves to the South Port docks effective immediately, working the bottom lines t

"Open the door! I have proof! Let me in!"Shouting echoed from the hallway as the women shoved and cursed at each other.I sat behind my desk, lit a cigarette, and watched the white smoke drift through the cold light. The door flew open. A figure tumbled inside. It was Gia.Her hair was a rat's nest, and her scraped knees bled through her slacks. She scrambled across the floor until she reached the edge of my desk."Boss! Look at mine first!" Gia reached down her collar, pulled out a flash drive, and slammed it onto the wood. She dropped to her knees on the floor. "Bianca's wiretaps are all in here! She bought the C4 from the South District. She ordered the trucks to smash the gates. I recorded every word! She even hid a four-million-dollar cash ledger under her husband's headstone!"She lunged forward to grab the hem of my slacks. A guard stepped up and shoved a rifle butt directly into her chest.Gia's eyes welled with tears, and she dropped back onto her knees. "Bianca put a gun to

I backhanded Bianca across the face. She flew sideways, crashing into the chairs behind her. Blood split from the corner of her lip.Her revolver slipped from her grip and slid across the stone floor. Before she could push herself up, I stepped forward and pinned her fingers to the floor under my heel, grinding down hard.Bianca let out a shrill scream."Family law?" I looked down at her, my voice flat. "Family law protects soldiers on the line. It does not protect rats who sell our codes to the enemy."The hall fell dead silent. The capos sitting in the back kept their heads down. Nobody dared to breathe.I pressed harder with my heel. Bianca bit her lip until it bled, choking back her cries.I turned my eyes toward Gia, who was frozen on the floor, and the sixteen shaking women behind her."On Corleone turf, rats only get one way out. No exceptions. Having dead husbands buys you zero immunity."That single sentence broke whatever courage they had left."Don't kill me! It wasn't me!"

"Keep your barrels down and tucked in. Nobody moves until I say so."11:50 PM, the main council hall.Bianca pulled the collar of her trench coat tight. Over a dozen women stood behind her. Their coats bulged with hidden handguns and homemade pipe bombs.Just days ago, these widows sobbed in the Long Island shelter. Now, they stared at the double doors, their eyes burning with greed. Several veteran capos sat in the shadows at the back of the hall, smoking cigars and watching in cold silence. Not a single man moved to stop them."Bianca, can we actually trust the South District?" a younger woman whispered, her fingers digging hard into the blade hidden in her sleeve."Their trucks already smashed through the east checkpoint," Bianca hissed, turning her head. "What are you scared of? That woman is on her deathbed. The second she signs the papers tonight, we open fire. Anyone protects her, we take out the elders too. South Port belongs to us, and we split the vault cash down the middle."

"Take me down with her? They can try."I gave a cold laugh and signaled my security chief to hand over the contract. "Hold the release. Three million for her head? That is too cheap.""Understood. Boss, the South District convoys are assembling." The security chief lowered his head. "They think the patrol schedule is real. They plan to storm Blast Door Three at midnight.""Clear the way for them." I leaned back in my chair, my voice flat. "Leak the news. Say I fell gravely ill under the pressure. Tell them I will sign the transfer agreement at the South Port control building at midnight to beg for peace."A sharp spark lit up the security chief's eyes. "Lure them in?""Tell the men to seal the pocket tight."Meanwhile, inside an abandoned slaughterhouse warehouse downtown.Over twenty women huddled together, surrounding their ringleader.Bianca stood with one foot on an inverted crate, flicking a switchblade between her fingers."Word just came in. That woman collapsed." Madness burned

"Liar. You ruined us!"The heavy oak doors had barely closed when the screaming started outside. No luxury suites. No security. Only mountains of debt left behind by their dead husbands. The Sisterhood fell apart in seconds. A younger woman lunged at Bianca, grabbing her hair and slamming her head hard against the stone wall."You promised us fifty million. You swore Scarlett would fold."More hands reached in. Nails clawed at flesh. Silk scarves ripped away. They pinned Bianca down on the cold stones, kicking and punching."Back off, you cowards."Bianca pulled a switchblade from her boot. She slashed the nearest woman's forearm open.Blood hit the wall. The scream echoed down the hall.Bianca scrambled to her feet, waving the bloody blade."Touch me again. Just try it. Fighting each other won't save you. We stick together or we die."The women backed away, clutching open cuts. Fear and pure hatred filled their eyes.I watched the brawl from the second-floor gallery. Then I turned and
