Chapter 2

مؤلف: Soda
"District Seven loan sharks refuse to pay," my security chief said, sliding a tablet across my desk. "The boss says Bianca seized their books. Four bars in the red-light strip shut their doors. Word on the street is simple. No payouts for the Long Island widows, no tribute to the family."

I stared at the wall of red numbers on the screen. I said nothing.

After last night's summit, Bianca rented out an entire floor at an underground tavern downtown. Videos of old-school capos toasting drinks with her were already flooding our encrypted network.

The old men thought I was young. They thought a woman meant a soft target.

A soft knock came at the study door.

The heavy door cracked open. Gia walked in, holding a carved cedar cigar box. Her eyes were swollen red, and her steps were tiny and hesitant.

"Boss." She stopped three steps away, sobbing softly. "You didn't sleep at all last night. I brought these Cubans from downtown. My late husband smoked them for his headaches."

I leaned back in my leather chair and watched her.

Last week, when I bought her boy back from loan sharks, she knelt on this very floor and kissed my shoes.

"Put it on the desk," I said.

Gia stepped forward, placing the box on the corner with both hands. She lingered, twisting the hem of her jacket.

"Boss, please listen to me. Running this family alone is too hard for a woman. Bianca has three elders in her pocket. She won't stop. Just give her two docks. Buy some peace. It saves face for everyone."

"Give her two docks?" I raised an eyebrow. "Who put those words in your mouth, Gia? Bianca, or those old men?"

Gia's face drained of color. She waved her hands.

"Nobody! Nobody told me to say that. I just... I worry about you, Boss."

I picked up the brass letter opener and sliced through the seal on the box.

Ten cigars rested inside in a neat row.

I pulled one out and brought it to my nose. No rich tobacco scent. Just the faint chemical trace of synthetic glue.

The sharp blade cut clean through the rolled tobacco leaves.

The blade hit metal halfway through. I tipped the tip up. A black cylinder with a tiny wire antenna rolled onto the wood. A green LED blinked on the side.

A military wiretap.

If this box stayed on my desk, every command, every troop movement, and every order would go straight into Bianca's ears.

Gia saw the black capsule. Her knees gave out. She dropped to the carpet, shivering all over.

"Boss! I didn't know! I swear on my life I didn't know!" She crawled forward, reaching for the hem of my slacks. "Bianca gave them to me! She said it was just special tobacco to help you rest. She told me if I didn't bring them to your desk, she'd cut off my boy's other finger and mail it to my doorstep!"

I pulled my leg back and looked down at her.

"So you put the blade to my throat instead."

"No! Boss, please, for the sake of my dead husband—"

Heavy boots came down the hall, cutting her off.

A courier from the elder council walked straight in without knocking. Wet street rain clung to his leather jacket. His eyes held no respect. He set a black wooden box down hard on my mahogany desk.

"From the council," the courier said. He did not bow his head.

The box had no lock.

I opened the lid. A blood-stained armor-piercing round rested on the black velvet. A name was laser-cut into the brass casing. The late Don.

Under the bullet lay a letter signed with the red wax seals of six crews.

No room for debate: "Riots among the widows. Unfit to lead. Hand over the black onyx signet ring. Retire to your Long Island estate and stay out of family business forever. Or face forced removal under family law."

Right then, a low rumble shook the glass windows.

My security chief pressed two fingers to his earpiece. His jaw clenched.

"Boss. Speedboats from the south are pushing into our outer perimeter. They just fired two warning rounds at our watchtower. Crew Three abandoned their patrol boats ten minutes ago."

Enemies outside, traitors inside.

A coordinated strike, timed to strip me of the throne before sunrise.

Gia sobbed on the rug, clutching the desk leg. The wiretap blinked green. The dried blood on the bullet was still tacky.

They thought this would make me break.

I laughed once. I picked up the bloody letter and struck a match against the wood.

The parchment caught fire and curled into black flakes. I held the flame to the sliced cigar, took a slow pull, and exhaled thick smoke across the desk.

I lifted the heavy glass ashtray and dumped the cold gray ash straight over Gia's head.

"Drag her out. Throw her past the main gates," I told my security chief, keeping the cigar between my teeth. "Tell the perimeter guards to put a bullet through her knees if she steps on family soil again."

"Right away, Boss." Two armed guards dragged the screaming woman down the hall.

The courier shifted his weight. The arrogance slipped off his face.

I stubbed the cigar out and looked at him.

The courier stepped back toward the door. He gave me a thin, ugly smile.

"Midnight is the deadline, Boss. Hand over the ring. The elders make no promises where this fire goes next."

I looked at the list. Bianca's name sat right at the bottom, exactly as expected. I gave a short nod."Drag her down. Public execution."Dawn broke over the family's central courtyard. A rare crowd packed the open square. Two enforcers dragged Bianca onto the raised platform like a dead dog, pinning her hard against the wooden posts.Dying was too easy. Under family law, living would be her hell.A shrill scream ripped through the air, sharp enough to split stone, before choking off into silence. The blades severed the tendons in both wrists. She would never pull a trigger again. The Chief Enforcer stood before hundreds of crew members, reading the sentence without a trace of emotion."Per intelligence verified on the line, we recovered four million in dirty cash stashed by Bianca. She moves to the South Port docks effective immediately, working the bottom lines t

"Open the door! I have proof! Let me in!"Shouting echoed from the hallway as the women shoved and cursed at each other.I sat behind my desk, lit a cigarette, and watched the white smoke drift through the cold light. The door flew open. A figure tumbled inside. It was Gia.Her hair was a rat's nest, and her scraped knees bled through her slacks. She scrambled across the floor until she reached the edge of my desk."Boss! Look at mine first!" Gia reached down her collar, pulled out a flash drive, and slammed it onto the wood. She dropped to her knees on the floor. "Bianca's wiretaps are all in here! She bought the C4 from the South District. She ordered the trucks to smash the gates. I recorded every word! She even hid a four-million-dollar cash ledger under her husband's headstone!"She lunged forward to grab the hem of my slacks. A guard stepped up and shoved a rifle butt directly into her chest.Gia's eyes welled with tears, and she dropped back onto her knees. "Bianca put a gun to

I backhanded Bianca across the face. She flew sideways, crashing into the chairs behind her. Blood split from the corner of her lip.Her revolver slipped from her grip and slid across the stone floor. Before she could push herself up, I stepped forward and pinned her fingers to the floor under my heel, grinding down hard.Bianca let out a shrill scream."Family law?" I looked down at her, my voice flat. "Family law protects soldiers on the line. It does not protect rats who sell our codes to the enemy."The hall fell dead silent. The capos sitting in the back kept their heads down. Nobody dared to breathe.I pressed harder with my heel. Bianca bit her lip until it bled, choking back her cries.I turned my eyes toward Gia, who was frozen on the floor, and the sixteen shaking women behind her."On Corleone turf, rats only get one way out. No exceptions. Having dead husbands buys you zero immunity."That single sentence broke whatever courage they had left."Don't kill me! It wasn't me!"

"Keep your barrels down and tucked in. Nobody moves until I say so."11:50 PM, the main council hall.Bianca pulled the collar of her trench coat tight. Over a dozen women stood behind her. Their coats bulged with hidden handguns and homemade pipe bombs.Just days ago, these widows sobbed in the Long Island shelter. Now, they stared at the double doors, their eyes burning with greed. Several veteran capos sat in the shadows at the back of the hall, smoking cigars and watching in cold silence. Not a single man moved to stop them."Bianca, can we actually trust the South District?" a younger woman whispered, her fingers digging hard into the blade hidden in her sleeve."Their trucks already smashed through the east checkpoint," Bianca hissed, turning her head. "What are you scared of? That woman is on her deathbed. The second she signs the papers tonight, we open fire. Anyone protects her, we take out the elders too. South Port belongs to us, and we split the vault cash down the middle."

"Take me down with her? They can try."I gave a cold laugh and signaled my security chief to hand over the contract. "Hold the release. Three million for her head? That is too cheap.""Understood. Boss, the South District convoys are assembling." The security chief lowered his head. "They think the patrol schedule is real. They plan to storm Blast Door Three at midnight.""Clear the way for them." I leaned back in my chair, my voice flat. "Leak the news. Say I fell gravely ill under the pressure. Tell them I will sign the transfer agreement at the South Port control building at midnight to beg for peace."A sharp spark lit up the security chief's eyes. "Lure them in?""Tell the men to seal the pocket tight."Meanwhile, inside an abandoned slaughterhouse warehouse downtown.Over twenty women huddled together, surrounding their ringleader.Bianca stood with one foot on an inverted crate, flicking a switchblade between her fingers."Word just came in. That woman collapsed." Madness burned

"Liar. You ruined us!"The heavy oak doors had barely closed when the screaming started outside. No luxury suites. No security. Only mountains of debt left behind by their dead husbands. The Sisterhood fell apart in seconds. A younger woman lunged at Bianca, grabbing her hair and slamming her head hard against the stone wall."You promised us fifty million. You swore Scarlett would fold."More hands reached in. Nails clawed at flesh. Silk scarves ripped away. They pinned Bianca down on the cold stones, kicking and punching."Back off, you cowards."Bianca pulled a switchblade from her boot. She slashed the nearest woman's forearm open.Blood hit the wall. The scream echoed down the hall.Bianca scrambled to her feet, waving the bloody blade."Touch me again. Just try it. Fighting each other won't save you. We stick together or we die."The women backed away, clutching open cuts. Fear and pure hatred filled their eyes.I watched the brawl from the second-floor gallery. Then I turned and
