Chapter 4: Heading Towards The Fate

Chapter 4: Heading Towards The Fate

My blood froze hearing her words. I couldn’t understand what I should do in this condition? She was drenched in sweat, breathing barely. She was looking here and there while creasing her forehead.

“Princess Aylin, let’s go. You need to leave right now.” She dragged me with her, pushing everything around her way. The urgency was dripping from her terrified eyes.

“Attack? Who attacked us?” I asked in my baffled way, trying to cope with her speed. Do they have armies to attack the palace directly?

“Rogue Vampires, take the silver blade with you.” She dashed into the wardrobe,  she was frantically searching for something through all clothing. I pulled out the knife and that small pouch of needles, wasting no more time.

I took a few steps back as I saw her running towards me, holding the knife away from her. She was carrying a long robe in her hands.

“Wear it, dear, we are leaving now.” She made me wear it, ignoring the knife in my hand. We are leaving? Is it that serious?

“Leaving? Why?” She didn't reply, checking me constantly, covering me correctly with a long black fur robe.

“Aren’t warriors going to protect us?” I hide the knife and pouch inside the robe while she was tugging me out, as she couldn't hear anything.

“His highness and most warriors went on battle already. They have attacked the palace beyond their consent. Don’t ask questions, just follow me.” She checked me once again, up and down.

“I can’t leave father behind. We will go get him first.” I insisted, gripping her hands tightly, pleading with her with my eyes. Her face softened watching me, but before she could speak anything, we heard a loud banging on the door of my room.

Two guards were standing there with serious looks, holding a spade in his hand and another was turned into a wolf pacing out of the room with his angry yellow eyes, ready to tear anyone in his way.

“Hurry, princess, we need to leave now.” The guard asserted, and Tae nodded at him, pulling me with her. Father went to battle, and he didn’t even bother to inform me.

I was broken, scared, and couldn’t contemplate what was happening to me and my life. Tears were rolling in my eyes as the newborn stream of the river.

“Tae, I am scared. Where are we going?” I question while following her. She was dragging me with her. Her face was pale, her gaze never stood on anything more than a second. The guard transformed into a wolf leading us, and then Tae and I were followed by another guard.

“I know, dear, but we have to leave through the passage.” She uttered while speeding at her pace. Passage? Which one? The palace doesn’t have any secret passage. It’s not the right time to ask questions to her, I will ask some other time.

We were heading to the third floor of the palace. The sound of growling was increasing constantly, making everyone worried. We were running in dark corridors lit with torches high on walls, making it scarier than it was.

My heart was filled with anxiety and uncertainty, making my environment intense. The air was chilly and torches were flaming with the highest capacity.

My life was hanging on the edge, and fate was pushing me on the dangerous side of it deliberately. Groaning, growling of wolfs accompanied by their screams was thundering downstairs, clutching our hearts.

They were so close, and our brave warriors were failing to stop them. Their screams were felt as if someone poured molten metal into our ears. Every scream was passing shivers through my skin and made our legs speed up.

“We are close to the passage, Princess Aylin,” the Guard responded while looking at the painting of mountain ranges, and we heard screeching noises and throat touring screams from the stairs. They were just downstairs.

“Go on, we will stop them,” the Guard announced while turning back, making me shocked, but Tae dragged me with her.

“No, what are you doing?” My denial didn’t reach their ears, and they ran back to stop the vampires. Tae pulled the door open of the painting and pushed me inside.

“Take care, dear, I can’t come with you.” She sobbed, clasping the door, watching with her twinkling eyes as she was watching me last time.

“Tae, no,” I yelled, lunching towards the door to hold it open. She can’t do it. She can’t. I want her to be with me. I can’t lose her too. Please don’t do this, Tae.

“Love you, my child.” She blurted, closing the door shut in front of my eyes. The door was closed, I couldn’t see her anymore. Screams were roaring in the corridors, punching my heart so brutally that I couldn’t even utter a word. Her painful yells broke my strength, I fell to the ground.

I couldn't believe it; I was just staring at the iron door in front of me. Noises stopped in a while, drenching my cheeks with tears. What did I leave to preserve anymore?

“Where did she go?” I heard someone’s shrill sound. They are here to get me. I have to leave now. With a terrified heart, I forced my feet to turn away from that door. A torch was shining at the end, lighting in that pitch dark tunnel.

Daring to step forward, taking support from the earthen walls of the tunnel, I forwarded. Every step I took made my heart fill with guilt. I was seeing nonexistent blood spilled all over the path. Dripping tears with every step, I was walking constantly, hoping that light from the torch would be my fate to make everything right.

I took that torch in my hand as I reached the end of the tunnel, dragging my hands over the earthen walls of it. They were stinking, but their screams weren’t leaving my mind.

There was an iron door. The symbol of the werewolf kingdom was sparkling in the light. I pushed open the door using all my effort; it was heavy, but I managed to create an opening enough to sneak away.

A dark, deep forest welcomed me with the rustling of leaves like an old friend, but I was terrified of it. Everywhere I looked, I saw my crumbling faith dancing in front of me. I was standing in the middle of the forest without knowing where to go.

I closed my eyes and the lights I used to see every day flashed in my mind, making my heart calm. My legs started walking where my fate was taking me, but this time I was ready to face whatever comes in my way.

The crackling of dry leaves became my strength and the dark trees around me, my companion. They encouraged me to speed up to be safe, and be far away from vampires. I was headed in an unknown direction, cutting through trees, sheltered with a warm torch, and keeping a hand on a silver blade.

But soon the crackling of leaves became my enemy, their intensity changed making me realize someone was following me. I pulled out a few needles from the pouch, holding them in my hand tightly. I ran ahead, and I heard hustle. There wasn’t anyone but a few vampires. Someone was barking orders to catch me.

I was throwing needles back, running ahead, and could hear their screams when they got hit by needles. My luck was with me. They were faster than me and soon reached me, trying to grab me, but I stabbed him in his hand. His red eyes and peeking canines terrified me.

I backed away screaming, throwing a torch at his body, lighting him up. Two vampires halted as their friend was on fire. A surge of energy rushed into my blood and I started running in the unknown, caring for nothing.

I couldn’t hear anything. I stopped for a moment to take a breath. No one was following me, and I crashed on the forest ground with a thud.

The moon was looking beautiful in the sky surrounded by trees, but it was fading for some reason, making me dizzy with it, sucking my consciousness out of me. Strengthening the darkness in my eyes.
