Mag-log inBelgaire POV I have agreed to meet Calian at a discreet location off the main road between our packs, a wooded area that offers enough coverage to shield us from humans. I had left Logan to tear down the burning effigy of me that hung against the border fence, a parting gift by the rogue leader. I’m certain the orders came from him. With only a few rogue females and children left, Ame had been adamant that she wanted to check them over. At least I know she will be occupied for a few hours, and safe…the rogues having returned briefly to set fire to a copy of me, have now long gone. I recognise Calian’s car, parked on the side of the road, by the number plate. I pull up in front, checking his car before following his alpha scent into the woodlands. I know what to expect, he has had his own results between Athan and Dessa tested…he wouldn’t be calling me otherwise. He was also the one keen to not meet on either of our lands…meaning he wants to keep this between us.“Calian.” I call
Calian POV “Fucking cut me off.” I growl out under my breath as I slam the front door shut and charge down the hallway to the privacy of my office. I hit redial immediately; Belgaire was the one who told me I should call him.He cuts me off again, I am about to throw my phone across the length of the office when a notification comes through, “I’m in the middle of something.” “We need to meet!” I simply text back, before tossing my phone on top of my desk and sinking my head into my hands. I move back out of my office, picking up my mobile and to the kitchen where I find Athan sitting at the kitchen table, it appears going through his homework. He cuts a solitary figure, he always has…and through no fault of his own. Why is my son alone…again. “Are you doing homework?” I ask out opening the large fridge to grab a can of pop for an immediate caffeine hit. I didn’t sleep a wink last night; my mind had been too wired to shut off. “I was, now I’m finishing the get well card for the
Ame POV “You know you are drop dead gorgeous.” I smirk out at him, shaking my own head at his playboy humour. “Do I now…” He takes a step towards me, closing the gap between us. “Don’t deny it.” “I’m not denying anything.” His hands firmly place upon my hips, his steps moving me backwards until my upper legs meet the bed frame. With his hands remaining on my hips, he lifts me with ease…as if I weigh nothing, on the edge of the bed, before wrapping my legs around him.The scent of lust perfumes the air around me, my heart quickening as he stands before me, no room left between us. I realise that it is me who needs to make the first move, confliction is still etched in the corner of his eyes…waiting for me to push him away. I don’t know what has changed, I don’t know what this is. But the sudden fear rushing through my body holds a different pulse to it….it excites me. Slowly I run my hands up his muscular torso, lifting under the hem of his t-shirt as my fingers trail up his ton
Ame POV I have made it mid-way through the queue of patients outside already when a knock on the door stops me administering my usual ointment. I chose to ignore it until the knock becomes more impatient, the door beginning to open without my permission. “What do you think you are doing…Oh Belgaire, what can I do for you.” I have already removed my medical gloves to intercept the person entering, my tone changing when I realise it is Belgaire. “I didn’t realise you were returning to your duties today?” He smiles out, however…it doesn’t reach his eyes. He has his guard up; his tone has an element of frustration to it. “Oh yes, I just popped in to check on supplies, and well…I couldn’t help myself. I’m about halfway through the line; I shouldn’t be too long.” I respond turning to return to my patient when he grabs my shoulder and spins me back around. My feet almost colliding with one another as his abrupt movement leaves me bewildered. “No, you’re done!” His beautiful blue eyes
Calian POV “Forgive me for checking Alpha, but…you aren’t going to like what you see.” His words kill that internal hope within me. That I had been right about Belgaire falsifying the results.I reach for the envelope against that ominous sensation building inside of me warning me not to take them out of his hand. To ignore it, because this will change everything…life will never be the same after this. With a deep core centring breath in I open the envelope, pulling the documents out to inspect myself. Firstly, I check the results between Athan and Ame, surprised to find written in bold print is the word Match. I hold my breath, swallowing down the hard lump that is forming in the back of my throat as I turn the page over for the second set of results. The results between Athan and Dessa… I skim read the initial information looking for the words Match…nausea gripping me as the results scream out No Match… I think at first that I have misread it, that my eyes are tied. I even sla
Calian POV I know the results will come back with an indisputable match between Dessa and Athan, I mean how can it not, they are identical…but that isn’t stopping me from looking at my mate a little clearer this morning. Have I been wearing rose tinted spectacles for some time, wholly trusting the mate bond by the moon goddess…because something seems off about Dessa this morning. She doesn’t look as well put together as normal; she looks almost dishevelled as she clutches her coffee and refuses to touch any of the breakfast food. “Dad, can you help me with some of my homework today?” Athan clears his throat, stealing my focus on to him. “I have quite a full day…but yes, always.” I U-turn as he sighs out in disappointment. He has been through a lot recently and although he handles it well, I forget just how young he still is. “I thought you wanted help last night?” Dessa grunts out, now slowly sipping on a glass of ice water. “I did.” He looks to his mother, then to me…slowly s
Ame POV “Wow, that really does look like me.” “Children and their imagination.” Dessa mutters out as she pushes her empty plate away from her. She reaches for the wine bottle, pouring her empty glass to the rim. “But that’s not me, I don’t have wings.” I wink out at him, his face lifting back up
Calian POVIt’s her, I’m convinced it is Ame.She’s different…in appearance…in the way she holds herself…so much taller, stronger. She may have dyed her hair, may be wearing contacts…but I know in my heart of hearts it is my wife.As I pulled Balgaire aside in the hospital room, he didn’t confirm
Ame POV I settle into my new accommodation inside the large pack house. This was always where the single wolves were housed, until they paired off and were moved to individual pack houses…where they could start a family home.I’m only just realising that not once did I step inside this building.
Ame POVJust hearing my name on his tongue sends shockwaves of hatred throughout my body, the memory of my wolf teddy flashing through my mind. The moment I realised he had doused it in wolfsbane to kill me…the excruciating burn spreading on my chest as the poison takes me...The hairs on the back
