Chapter Thirty Three : Where Are You, Selene?

Ronan’s POV

It had been two days.

Two long, painful days.

And I still hadn’t seen her.

I had searched the borders myself. I had sent warriors to check every edge of the territory. I even asked a few villagers if they had seen a girl with long black hair and tired eyes.

Nothing.

My heart was pounding as I walked into Lucien’s cabin.

He was standing near the fireplace, rubbing his temples.

“Lucien,” I said, breathless. “I still haven’t found her.”

Lucien turned to me, his face tired. “Still?”

“I’ve searched everywhere,” I said. “And I asked some guards to help, but—”

“Ronan,” Lucien interrupted softly. “You need to calm down.”

“How can I calm down?” I snapped. “She’s not a thing, Lucien. She’s Selene. She’s my mate.”

Lucien lowered his voice. “I know you love her, but if Sasha finds out you’re searching this way, she might use it against you.”

I took a deep breath. “I don’t care.”

Lucien stepped forward, placing a firm hand on my shoulder. “Don’t go to Sasha. That woman is poison. You know it.”

“I know. But I don’t care. I need to know if she knows something,” I said. “Even if she lies to my face, I’ll know. I have to try.”

Lucien exhaled heavily. “This is exactly what she wants. She wants to get inside your head and make you desperate. She wants to feel powerful.”

I looked him in the eyes. “I am desperate.”

He didn’t stop me after that.

I left.

The pack house felt colder than I remembered.

Sasha was standing by the window of the throne room, dressed in her usual white and gold robe. Her expression didn’t change when she saw me storm in.

“Where is she?” I asked, voice rough.

Sasha slowly turned around, smiling like she’d been expecting me.

“Good afternoon to you too, Ronan.”

“Don’t play games with me,” I said. My voice echoed in the room. “Where is Selene?”

Her smile widened, but her eyes turned sharp. “You think I’m hiding her?”

I stepped forward. “I know what you’re capable of.”

Sasha’s voice dropped. “And what exactly am I capable of, hmm? I’m not the one who lost her. You are.”

My heart twisted.

“Don’t test me,” I said. “If you’ve done something to her—”

She cut me off. “You still think this girl matters? She’s weak. Pathetic. And if she’s smart, she’d stay far away from you. You couldn’t even protect her.”

I clenched my fists. “I swear, Sasha, if anything happens to her, I’ll burn your whole damn house down.”

Sasha’s eyes flared with rage.

“How dare you threaten me?” she shouted. “You barge into my house, raise your voice at me? Over a useless girl who doesn’t even belong to this pack?”

“She was part of this pack,” I growled. “Until you made her life hell.”

She laughed bitterly. “Oh please. That girl was nothing but a burden. I did you a favor, Ronan. You’ll see.”

I stepped forward again, shaking with anger. “Where. Is. She?”

Sasha narrowed her eyes.

“I don’t know. And I don’t care. Maybe she died in the woods. Maybe someone took her. Maybe she left because she finally realized you’re not worth it.”

I lost it.

I lunged forward, but before I could even get close, her guards came in and grabbed me.

“Take him to the cells,” she said coldly. “Let him cool off.”

“Let me go!” I shouted. “Sasha!”

But they didn’t listen.

I was dragged away.

The prison was dark, cold, and smelled like wet stone. They threw me in without a word, slamming the gate behind me.

I sat on the floor, breathing hard.

Selene.

Where are you?

I leaned my head against the wall, pain squeezing my chest.

I should’ve protected you.

I shouldn’t have listened to anyone. I should’ve stood up for you. Kept you close. Held you tighter.

I closed my eyes.

I could still see her face — the last time I saw her. She was crying, but still trying to be strong. Always strong.

And I was the coward who pushed her away.

Back at the pack house, Sasha was still furious.

She walked to her window and stared out, thinking.

Then she called two of her guards.

“Find that girl,” she said.

One of them looked confused. “The girl you said was dead?”

Sasha glared. “I don’t care if she’s dead or alive. Find her. I want to know where she is.”

“But… why?”

Sasha’s lips curled into a cruel smile.

“Because peace doesn’t suit her. I want her to remember she’s never safe. Not even when I’m not watching.”

Chapter Thirty Seven : A King, A Scar, A PromiseSelene’s POVThe room was silent.Too silent. The fire in the corner made soft crackling sounds, but they did nothing to warm the cold inside me. My hands lay still over my lap, and I could feel the soreness deep in my bones. Every breath I took reminded me I was still hurting. Still healing. Still trapped.I didn’t know how long I’d been in the Lycan King’s palace, but it couldn’t be more than two days. Still, it felt like weeks. Maybe months. I had lost sense of time the moment I said yes to the proposal.I hadn’t even seen him since last night.Evric.That was his name. Cold and sharp. Like something carved from stone. There was a knock on the door, soft but sure. Before I could answer, the door opened. A woman stepped in quietly, holding a leather bag that smelled of herbs. She was older, with silver hair tied neatly behind her head. Her eyes looked tired, but kind. Her presence calmed the fear rising in my chest.“You must be Selen

His scent filled the room—a mix of pinewood and smoke, something dark, something heavy. I kept my eyes on the floor as the door clicked shut behind him. The same man who helped me… then told me to leave… then helped me again. My back leaned against the same gate he had slammed shut two nights ago. The same man. The same rejection. The same pain.I didn’t cry anymore. I was too tired for tears.I just sat there, head resting on my knees, listening to the silence of a pack that wasn’t mine.I should leave. But where would I go?I had no home, no family, no friends. Just this hollow feeling in my chest and the shame of being thrown out again. The sun had risen and fallen twice. My lips were dry, my head ached, and I was starting to feel dizzy from hunger.
