AIDEN'S POV

Devon: We need to buy some time. Sit down with Landon and make a deal.

Me: Wrong number.

Devon: You pay me for good advice. My advice is to sign a quiet deal and figure out your long-term plan after you handle this problem.

Me: The only thing Landon will get from me is something that’ll send him to surgery.

He hurt me once. This time, I’d be the one hurting him.

Devon: I get that you hate him, Aiden, but we were young. Give him some money, make him feel good, and move on with your life. You could lose your CEO job, a lot of money, and face jail time if you mess with this trial.

Me: He was a monster who made me a better monster. Now we are both dangerous. Let’s see who can cause more damage.

I threw my phone on the leather seat and looked out the window of the car. Herold wasn’t going to stop until he saw me lose everything.

It wasn’t about money. It never was for me. It was about being a better CEO than my father, because he was better than his father.

AIDEN'S POV I had been in and out of clinics. Besides Tourette’s, I was also told I had OCD and ASD. To me, it felt like my world had ended. People think Tourette’s means you scream bad words without control and look crazy. They think OCD means you wash your hands over and over. And ASD means I’m on the autism spectrum. Most people think that means I’m like Rain Man—very good with numbers, but not smart in other ways. I quickly knew I had to get better if I wanted to live the life I wanted. I learned that I couldn’t stop the tics, but I could stop the things that made them happen. The tics came when I felt too much. Any strong feeling made it worse—sadness, anger, fear, or even happiness. If I got too excited, a tic attack would come soon. So I learned not to feel anything. If I stayed calm and didn’t feel too much, the tics stayed away. It was simple, and it helped everyone around me too. Well that explained a lot. Why Aiden always wore leather gloves because he didn’t like touch

AURORA'S POV He held my waist and gently pulled on my dress, stopping me from getting too close to the flowers. To the sea of flowers. I just noticed this part of the house was full of wildflowers. And not just any flowers. These pink and white ones looked like tiny, sad hearts. I swallowed and stepped back. “How long have you had those?” “Almost four years.” He looked at me with a small frown. “About a month after Henry and Sandy’s wedding, my gardener called me outside and said I needed to see something. He said it was strange. He didn’t plant the bleeding heart flowers and didn’t know how they got there. He thought maybe the wind blew seeds from another garden but I remembered something because after I took the flowers from your hair, I wrapped them in a napkin. Later that night, when I arrived home, I went out to the garden to smoke a cigar, found the napkin, and threw it out. It was just one flower. My gardener asked if I wanted to keep it. I thought about your curse, no,

AURORA'S POV The kids were running all around us. I thought it meant something, that the reason we were brought together, the idea of having children, surrounded us, even though I wasn’t pregnant.“I want one hour with you. Just sixty minutes. That’s all I ask. When do you finish work?”“Four,” I said. “Same as always.”“I’ll wait.”At least he didn’t tell me to skip work this time.“How did you make a cloud?” I pointed behind him.“NASA has a book. It’s easy.”“It looks amazing.”“Even third graders can do it.”“I don’t care.” I shook my head. “Will you wait for me?” I looked around at the school. He smiled. “Aurora, I’ve waited eight years for you. I can wait four more hours.”The drive to Aiden’s house was quiet. Before I got out of Little Genius, I set a timer for sixty minutes on my phone. I played with my bag strap, looking at the boring view outside, trying to calm down. This was the moment. A part of me always knew Aiden wouldn’t just sign the divorce papers and let go. Maybe

AURORA'S POV It was time to break another promise. "There is a cloud in our backyard!" Dahlia, one of my students, shouted, pointing her small finger at the window behind me. "Wow!" Reid’s big, black eyes opened wide. "That is one huge cloud." "Okay, everyone," I said, holding the book I was reading. The kids sat around me on the bright alphabet rug. The fog outside was making them lose focus. "Sit with your legs crossed. Let’s finish our story about Paddington on his Busy Bee Adventure Trail before we go outside." "Finding B words is so boring!" Noah tried to spell the word but got it wrong. He moved around on the carpet, upset. "Mommy says teachers aren’t very smart, or they would not be teachers. I want to play with the big cloud!" Well, Noah, maybe Mommy is just being mean... "Please!" Dahlia begged. "Oh, Ms. Aurora!" Reid whined. The kids crowded around me, climbing onto my lap, their hands together like they were praying. "Please, please, please let us play with the cl

AIDEN'S POV They walked away from me many times in my life, I almost said. Mother’s eyes were filled with unshed tears, and she tried not to cry. Father’s face stayed serious. They started to leave the office but mother stopped at the door and held my face, looking up at me. “Please forgive me,” she whispered so only I could hear. “I’m so sorry for everything and you are absolutely right. You deserve better than how we lived, Aiden.” I kissed her cheek. “I forgive you.” “Really?” I nodded. “Now leave.” Then it was my father’s turn. His eyes looked both a little annoyed and a little happy. “My son.” He nodded. “You keep surprising me. Your brother is wild but easy to understand. That’s why I sent the Sterling girl to him. Your sister is kind, so I don’t worry about her but you.” He took a deep breath, closing his eyes. “You were my hurt child, which made you more dangerous because we both knew you could survive anything. You think I don’t know,” he whispered, leaning close, cl

AURORA'S POV Murmurs and gasps filled the media room at Royal Pipelines. Journalists and reporters yelled questions about Green Living, Herold Landon, and the possible fight with Greenpeace, who might take over the lawsuit Herold had started. My heart raced so fast I thought I might pass out. Aiden raised his hand calmly, stopping the flood of questions. “As I said, this will be short, and I won’t be answering any questions. In addition to halting all oil-rig work, from this afternoon, I also own the Arctic areas nearby that have shown potential for oil. This means King Royal Pipelines now controls all the oil reserves and drilling rights in the Arctic. Forever. “I’ll look into cleaner options to grow Royal Pipelines' business and I’m still committed to providing jobs for tens of thousands of Americans. Actually, I want to tell our investors that I’ve already secured something much more profitable than the Arctic and much less harmful.” The smile he gave the camera was one of v

AURORA'S POV She made me think of a popular actress, from one teenage series. “I mean, I’m not complaining. I get my money but the Kings aren’t a bad family to marry into, child.” “I’m sure.” I signed the last page and pushed it toward her. “Can you send it to him, please?” She shook her head. “Sorry. Your husband has to get it in person. A sheriff must give it to him, and then you’ll get proof that it was done.” There were a lot of people who would love to see Aiden get divorce papers from the police but I didn’t want to hurt or embarrass him. “Is that really needed?” Just this morning, Aiden sent me another message using a cloud app. Aiden: Talked to your aunt (if you tell anyone I spoke to a cloud, I’ll deny it). She said I should take you on a honeymoon. I bought the tickets. He didn’t give up. But he gave me space. He never came to my house or pushed into my life like before. “Yes,” the lawyer said, nodding like one of those bobblehead dolls. “If you’re not sure, may

AURORA'S POV“This came in the mail for you,” Annabelle said, tossing a thick envelope onto the small kitchen table. She stretched her arms and walked toward the shower. It was seven in the morning. I was already clean, dressed, and ready for work. I hadn’t slept last night. Or the night before.Ever since I left Aiden, I could hardly do anything but I knew I had to let him go for him and for my sanity “Don’t forget, we said we’d visit Sandy at five. Let me know if you want me to pick you up after work.” Annabelle went into the bathroom after working all night. I had left the Tesla at the apartment Aiden gave me.I picked up the envelope and frowned. I turned it over a few times, then opened it. Inside was my soul selling contract. It was signed, stamped, and made official. My heart beat fast. I opened the contract with shaking hands. A small note fell out. I saw Aiden’s bold, strong handwriting.“Aurora, my soul is yours. No rules or strings attached. Tell me what you need to keep i

  • The Merciless Billionaire's Contract Marriage    Chapter 109: I'm Sorry

AIDEN'S POV Please don’t let it be Grinder or Nature Valley. The smile on his face was so big it looked like it might break. “Tanya” I drove to Herold Landon’s house as soon as I kissed my new niece, Tanya, hello. She was a little pink ball with a head full of red hair, just like her mom, and blue eyes, just like her dad. The loud crying, she probably got from Michael Phelps. The kid could scream so loud, it felt like it would blow the roof off. All in all, Tanya was one of the cutest babies I had ever seen and a great addition to the family. I really appreciated how Sandy didn’t call me out for being a terrible person for what I did to her best friend. She took my congratulations with a smile that wasn’t very warm, even though it was clear I was the reason her husband had come back to her hospital room all beaten up with two black eyes. A few hours later, I saw Herold, in dirty sweatpants and messy hair, walking from his front door to a truck with a cardboard box in his hand.
