The air in Silver More had grown heavy, as if the moon itself pressed against the land, swollen with prophecy and unshed blood. The howls from the outer ridge no longer belonged to wolves—they were guttural, warped, trembling with something ancient. Something is wrong.

Aelin stood at the edge of the ceremonial grounds, her silver cloak rippling around her as though stirred by something beneath the earth. The great monoliths of the Moon Temple surrounded her, cracked and glowing faintly with runes that hadn’t been lit in generations.

“We don’t have much time,” Seraphine murmured beside her. Her flame-streaked hair was tied back, her palms marked with ash from another divination. “The Veil thins faster than it should. The Culling Moon rises tonight.”

Aelin turned to face her. “That wasn’t supposed to happen for another cycle.”

“It’s being pulled forward—by something feeding on the boundary. A mirror of you, maybe.” Seraphine’s gaze darkened. “Or worse—something trying to replace you.”

The world inside the Temple flickered like a failing lantern—light and shadow folding in on themselves, reality thinning with every breathe. Aelin’s knees hit the cold stone floor, her chest heaving as the child vanished into the Mirrorborn queen’s embrace. The mirror no longer shimmered with cracks. It pulsed, whole and alive, like a second heart."You see now," the Mirrorborn queen whispered, her fingers stroking the child’s hair. “She chose me.”Aelin forced herself to stand. Her blade trembled in her grasp—not from fear, but fury.“She’s a piece of memory,” she spat. “A shadow caught in your lie. And I will not let you twist what’s left of her.”The queen tilted her head. “I don’t need to twist anything. I’m simply completing the story your world never let finish.”The mirror behind her began to rotate slowly—counter-clockwise, like a great eye turning its gaze inward. Runes spiraled around its frame, illuminating in order, matching the phases of the moon. When they completed the

The sky ripped apart like burning paper. A huge figure came through the fiery opening. It was so strange that even the Nameless One looked small beside it.It did not walk. It arrived. Its presence didn’t fill the world—it rewrote it.Aelin stood paralyzed, the pendant Maelor had given her burning against her skin. Around her, Cassian Jayden and Seraphine stood silent. They felt the presence of this being like a heavy mountain on their minds. The figure wore a robe made of living fire. Its face was hidden by a helm made from stardust and time. The body was not made of flesh; instead, it sparkled with light and dark bones covered in ancient runes. Its eyes looked like swirling galaxies. The being raised a hand, and suddenly the wind stopped.Cassian was the first to find his voice. “What... what is that?”The Mirrorborn took a trembling step back. “It’s not from the Veil.”“No,” Aelin whispered. “It’s older.”She felt something deep inside her. It was a memory that wasn't hers. It was

The roar that cracked the air felt like it had torn straight through the marrow of the world.Aelin stood frozen, flame coiled in her fingers, as the echo of the beast’s bellow vibrated through her chest. Trees shuddered. Stones cracked beneath their feet. Even the sky above seemed to darken in dread.Maelor’s face had gone pale as stone. “It’s awake,” he whispered.Aelin turned to him, panic just beneath the surface of her fury. “What is it?”Maelor didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he knelt and pressed his palm to the earth. Sigils spread outward in glowing, faintly red lines—ancient glyphs of warning. They flickered. Faded. Died.“The Veil’s seal was never meant to hold that,” he said finally. “It was older than the Veil. Older than the gods. It was buried beneath the first Gate… and now it’s stirring.”“You called it the Nameless One,” Aelin said, bracing herself. “What does that mean? What kind of creature?”“It’s not a creature,” Maelor said. “It’s a concept. A will. A thought

Maelor stood in the middle of a world that was breaking apart. His staff glowed with ancient runes that hadn’t shone in a thousand years. The sky above him moved like torn silk, revealing something huge, dark, and hungry. Around him, the Fold was unstable with mirrorlands fading in and out of sight.Aelin struggled to stand up, her legs weak from everything that had just happened. “You—you’re supposed to be dead,” she gasped.Maelor turned his head a little, and shadows wrapped around him like smoke. “Death is not so final when the Gate opens.”Behind them, the Mirrorborn hissed, her blade gleaming with phantom fire. “You should not be here, Maelor. You were barred.”“I barred myself,” he replied coldly. “To keep what sleeps from waking. But someone tampered with the weave.”Aelin’s fingers twitched toward her sword. “What weave?”“The tether that binds time, magic, and fate. Someone unraveled it. Deliberately.”The Mirrorborn said nothing. But her smirk was enough.“She's not just a

Aelin felt cold all over. The voice came from the shadows of the crypt, and it was really not a trick or a dream. It was hers. Her cadence, her rhythm. Her thoughts warped into something colder, older. And crueler.Jayden spun toward the far corridor, blades drawn. “Who’s there?!”The shadows moved again. They were not just dark shapes; they felt real. A cold wave filled the room. It put out half of the torches right away.Orin stepped forward. “Light up the space. Now.”Seraphine sent out a burst of white flame. The flame lit up the entire crypt. At the far end, there stood a woman. She was tall and wore dark silver armor that did not reflect any light. Her hair was the same color as Aelin's and was styled in a crown braid. Her skin glowed softly as if reality was having trouble keeping her in place. Aelin stepped back because of the woman's face.Because it was her face.A perfect mirror.Except the eyes. Her double’s eyes weren’t the bright, storm-gray of Aelin’s. They were silver
