LOGINJenine's POV Laura had looked pale in the face like she'd seen a ghost when I came out to meet Elisha when he came to pick me up. The only thing she had told me was that she and Elisha had dated and he wasn't all good and nice as he portrayed himself to be. Well, I didn't care. I wasn't in Lupestone when they dated and broke up so why should I care?My eyes rested on Elisha as he drove, his eyes focused on the road. The way his arms rested on the steering wheel as he turned round those bends, I found myself wishing I'd allowed him to put them under my clothes. For some reason, I found my breathing getting heavy staring at him. A lump formed in my throat as my eyes stripped him naked. He glanced at me and smiled. He seemed to notice. I felt the burn in my cheeks when his lips curled up into that lopsided grin of his. He shifted his left hand to the wheel and rubbed my lap with his right, sending tingling sensations down my body. He squeezed softly all the time, not looking at me. N
“Elisha's still taking you?” Laura asked as Jenine sat in front of the mirror, dusting her face with light powder.“Mmmhhh,” she mumbled as she tried to apply the eyeliners.“You're getting it all wrong. Here, let me help you.” Laura turned the swivel chair around to face her. She couldn't help but notice Jenine's brown eyes that peeked out dollishly from under long lashes as she carefully lined the under of her eyes.“You could come with us,” she cooed, trying her best to still her fluttering eyelids.“Hold steady,” Laura said, her fingers wrapped lightly around the eyeliner as she scrubbed gently under her eyelids. “I'd rather go on my own.” She wouldn't be caught dead with Elisha. Never again. Her heart ached for Jenine. Has Elisha really changed? Has he changed from the person he was four years ago? “If he hurts her, I swear to the goddess…”A light rap came on the door breaking into her thoughts. Elisha. It had to be him.“I'll get the door. Finish up,” she tapped Jenine's lap
“Pumped for tonight?” Elisha's voice came through the phone.“Sure as hell I am,” Luca replied, his voice laced with mock enthusiasm. “Who knows? Maybe this is the night I find my mate. Yayyy.”“Maybe. Maybe not,” Elisha's voice filtered out of the phone.“You sound excited. Did you…”“I sure did. I'm bringing her to the festival. I'd like for you to meet her.”“Can't wait.”Luca turned as his door opened, closing with a soft thud. “I'll see you then. The Alpha wants a word with me,” he said into the phone.“Your dad, Luca. Your dad.”“Whatever,” he cut the call. He turned. “Dad?”Alpha Ferguson stood at the door, his eyes roving round the room. His feet thudded as he walked to the table where the picture frame of Cora—his mate, Luca’s mum—stayed. He picked it up, his fingers caressing the glass front.Luca watched his every move with inquisitive eyes. What did he want?“You know Luca,” his voice reverberated in the room, a low, rumbling hum, his eyes still on the picture, “it's not e
Ferguson's hands tightened against the railings of the balcony as he stared blankly into the darkening day. His eyes flickered with every movement he saw. He heard the soft thudding of shoes stop outside his door.“Come in.”The door groaned quietly as Karl opened it, stepping into the room.“Everything is ready,” the words rolled out of his mouth. “Everything's set for tomorrow.”“Good.” Ferguson's fingers tapped the rails making soft metallic sounds. Karl joined him on the balcony. His fingers wrapped the rails, disrupting the hollow metallic sounds they produced from Ferguson's tapping. His body heaved as he exhaled heavily.“Do you think she'll be there tomorrow?” Ferguson's voice came, soft and low.“Orchid? It'd be unwise of her to make an appearance. She knows she's being hunted.”“Zonda seems to think she's unstoppable,” Ferguson glanced to Karl. “If she's as dangerous as he says, we can't risk having the festival without proper security. We can't have panic spreading through
Laura's POV Jenine had left the house in the morning. Her exact words, “to clear my head.” She did it a lot—taking off into the woods to stroll. I bet it made her feel better since she did it frequently. I really didn't care what she did with her time. I wasn't against her taking walks in the woods but you know how things get around here. It's surprising that she used to be so scared and jumpy and suddenly now, she enjoyed taking walks in the woods. It was almost like the woods called out to her. This same woods where she had almost been mauled in. She was getting more confident and that was a really good look on her. But then, it'd been five hours since she left and confident or not, fearless or not, it was a very long time to be out ‘taking a stroll.’ So you can imagine my restlessness when she didn't come home yet.The sun was still bright and burning when I left the first time to go look for her. I had told her to holler if she needed me and I'll be there but she never did.
“You are saying you saw her here?” Laura asked, her voice so low it was almost a hush. “I saw her by the window and she vanished immediately,” Jenine replied.Fear glistened in her eyes like the moon reflecting on glass. “She was the lady I saw in my dream too. Should I be scared?”“You're scared already. Telling you not to be won't really do anything to help, would it?”Laura placed a hand on her trembling shoulder. “Calm down.” A sigh escaped Jenine's mouth, her lips quivering as it did. She wrung her fingers together, her eyes staring down at her hands. “So, what now?” her eyelids fluttered to Laura. “What do we do?”“I… I don't know,” she shook her head, her short hair bouncing as dewy-eyed Jenine stared at her. What could she tell her? That it was going to stop? That everything was going to be alright? “I really don't know Jenine ,” she said again. “Let's hope for your sake, that you were seeing things that weren't there.”“Then what about the dream I had? I literally saw her
